An unusual occurrance in the Central Murray and Maryborough Castlemaine leagues in 2011.

Central Murray: Tooleybuc and Tyntynder both lost both finals they played (Final 5) allowing Kerang (3rd) and Swan Hill (4th) to play in the Grand Final. Swan Hill won by 86 points.

MCDFL: Lexton and Carisbrook both lost the Preliminary Finals (Final 8) allowing Navarre (3rd) and Natti-Bealiba (5th) to play the Grand Final.
Natti-Bealiba won by 18 points.

Since the introduction of the final five in 1972, does anyone know of any other occurance?

It happened in the Bendigo League in 1997. Top two teams Maryborough and South Bendigo both finished with 13 wins, 3 losses, but lost both finals, allowing third placed Kyneton (10 wins) to defeat fourth placed Golden Square (7 wins, 9 losses) in the grand final. The final five was first used in the Bendigo Football League in 1983.
