The bit I don't understand is why don't other clubs with ex-EFC players have the potential to get top up players.

I doubt they'd need them for the numbers, but in terms of position/depth, it could be useful.

Why would they want them? I'm sure Port and the dogs would rather play kids on their list than a state leaguer who they have no rights to come the end of the year.

Hey - while I understand the issues some posters have raised about the potential impact on the State competition, in this strange way I'm starting to look forward to player suspensions and seeing the mystery top up team this year. Might even do EFC a power of good - change it up, break down the locked up culture. Better still, if they top up with some strong minded, take no sh*t types, maybey the glow emanating from James Hirds ears will lose some of its traction. I'd love to see the ring-ins get Jack of the culture, mess up the controlled media messages and out perform the remaining besotted types sculling around the club.

Good wake up for the remaining StandByHirders - one of these days Essendon will choose between this git and their possibility of success.

The press release is telegraphing the possibility that players may still be provisionally suspended when the season starts. But read the tea leaves, eh?

Not having studied the top up rules in detail (so what exactly do I mean by attempting to add anything here - chronic laziness I guess) but now that Colin Sylvia is demoted, can Essendon have him? Or does his hefty contract get in the way.
