The press release is telegraphing the possibility that players may still be provisionally suspended when the season starts. But read the tea leaves, eh?

Relax mate. I'd be strung out if the roles were reversed too. Not long to wait now.

Not having studied the top up rules in detail (so what exactly do I mean by attempting to add anything here - chronic laziness I guess) but now that Colin Sylvia is demoted, can Essendon have him? Or does his hefty contract get in the way.

Please, though, let that be possible and let him go to Essendon! Let's see if Hird really is the mythical SuperCoach in the heads of his remaining 5 supporters.

I'll pay for his flight, even a burger and chips at the airport while he's waiting

"Neil Cordy is reporting that Norwood captain and former Demon Alex Georgiou, Sam Baulderstone and former Bulldogs forward Matthew Panos have all been sounded out by the Bombers."

(Of course Baulderdstone has not been on an AFL list so would need some sort of exception)

Hearing Coburg tall defender Michael Hartley has been sounded out for Essendon's NAB Cup team. Good opportunity for a top prospect. #PJVFL
Isn't it only two players per club?

Don't have a problem with them securing players from state or country leagues but not from the clubs affiliated with the other 17 AFL clubs.

You have an issue with them taking players from insignificant reserves teams, yet happy for them to poach from genuine clubs. Do you even follow football?

Players rotting in the magoos are off limits, but players critical to clubs' performance are fair game?

I'm sure if they asked, they would get. But 1 is a much smaller number than 25 so its pretty pointless of them to ask.

Yep, this is the fish john west already rejected. You don't put unfit broken down has beens, or over hyped failed never was's on your list unless you have a gun to your head

Efc has no choice, port and the dogs do

"rotting in the magoos" ...............huh ????

Players who didn't get drafted or mature-age players who still want a crack at the big time.

You damn well should be or you should be forfeiting and the players penalised for not fulfilling the terms of their contracts. this is a soft**** approach.

But they still wouldn't have enough players - As MXETT said there is no point complaining that EFC must play NAB Cup even if we don't have enough players, then complain when they get top up players - You don't have a leg to stand on.

No not for reasons like essentially going on strike.

GM has said nothing. Seem to have no authority at all.

Keep on telling you guys that promises were breached - That's why EFC and the AFL are walking on eggshells.

Yeah - sorry about that.

You know, I'm liking this idea more and more.

J Hird v C Sylvia.

You have to hand it to our Colin, he is no cultist. I would not describe him as a mere yes man. In fact, from this point in his career you can pretty much assume that the word no is in the driving seat.

Promise ... If EFC get their hands on Colin I will turn out to watch. With sandwiches. In the rain. Hilarious!

The talk over here is that he has been offered $2000 a week to sign temporarily with the Essendon VFL side. That would make him eligible as a top-up player.

VFL salary cap is about $185k for a club like Essendon, so about $10k per match. $2,000 would be pretty high.

Good deal for the players - 2kpw + match payments + accommodation + high quality training at an elite environment - It's a tempting proposition for Stale league players.

Every one of these players has made public statements about thinking they should still be in the league and hoped to be drafted last year. Jones, Petrenko and Brown have been on AFL lists long enough that the money probably isn't a factor. All these guys want back into the AFL and a door has opened for them.

They won't need a full forward as JD wasn't drafted until 2013.

He was actually drafted in the 2012 draft, and iirc was heavily involved with the EFC during 2012 too (had fitness programs organized etc). It will be interesting however to see if JD was part of the "supplement" program too (he would have been 17 ATT). If he pulls out of the NAB Challenge games then some serious questions will begin to be asked ...........

You did not understand what I said, your previous comment was that it was preferable for Essendon to poach players who have committed to play senior football for other clubs, rather than excess players who are only playing for reserves teams. This is beneficial for Essendon and the other AFL clubs, but effectively stuff the rest.
