If you could have time over would you top up like Geelong + Hawthorn did or still rebuild?

  • Yes, we should have topped up. I believe we could have had the success of Hawthorn + Geelong

  • No, we were in a different position and would have gone no where fast topping up

Baltimore opinions are like arseholes ;everyone has one.
And being opinions of course they are subjective but hopefully shaped by some objective facts.
Thanks for your input BJ as enlightening as usual
Why the long face?
And I would never suggest you pull your opinion out of your arseh*le

The issue I can't understand is we traded out premiership players in a draft that was compromised by the new franchise mini selections and 17 year olds taken in 2011 for GWS who were eligible for the 2012 draft if there hadn't been the new franchises.

Although we got Pick 20 for Dawes, it would have been a Pick 30 plus in an uncompromised draft.

Is Broomhead better than Dawes?

You underestimate yourself, there is so much more than just that

Is Broomhead better than Dawes?

Different players. We have had a dysfunctional forward setup since 2012.

Trading a tall, who 12 months earlier was given a 3 year deal - that means the club had long term plans for him - hasn't helped this dysfunctional setup.

My point is we need to consider is we traded premiership players out in 2012 in a highly compromised draft. On paper we can say the picks were 1st Rounders but the reality is they were distorted due to the GWS 17 year olds taken in 2011 & 2 mini draft selections.

Dawes is a crab, the club was right to get rid of him. He was playing poorly and needed a change.

Premiership player so thank him for his service and was a good player for us then. Has been average since and can't see him helping our current forward line woes.

He may well be a crab but he was a very good player when there was a functional forward setup. In 2012 he was asked to play a dual role as a forward and a ruck, a position not suited to him.

We had long term plans for Dawes. He was given a 3 year deal at the end of 2011, that year it was widely reported that Melbourne offered him a big deal and took unders.

Football isn't all about player transactions. It's a chemistry and personalities, Dawes was a highly respected and popular clubman. He also was a fine ambassador and leader, we have struggled in those intangibles since.

I often do tbh Baltimore. No long face mate enjoy the banter
Just help if you actually offered an opinion instead of a critique of others once in a while

I thought Pies problem was a group of players who thought they were the $hit after the premiership. Stopped doing what got us there in the first place. We were one bad bounce away from losing to saints in the draw anyway. In reality MM took us to 5 grand finals for 1 win, 1 draw, and 3 losses. Spud coach.

No. Great motivator; mediocre tactician for the fast-evolving modern game.

Were the players we got better than the ones we lost? Arguing about what the value of the draft picks we got is a straw man when we actually have the players themselves to compare.

Grundy is more valuable to our list than Wellingham. As hampered by injury and illness as he has been, Broomhead is better than Dawes.

Dawes wouldn't have fixed our forward structure, he's stunk it up every year since he left.

Yep, it was we had a lot of hard gut runners, Swan, Thomas, Wellingham etc who thrived on going out busting a gut and then getting a short spell. Another example is hands in the back rule, that one really hurt Clement. It annoys me as I don't see anti Hawks rules when they have or utilise an advantage.

Remember when you could just rush behinds with zero pressure then Hawks did it like 8 times in the 08 gf

Too stubborn imo was Old Mick. I also think that in the last two years he had too many players playing unaccountable football. Also had his favourites who got a bit pissy when the change of the guard. If we kept Mick and that premiership side, I reckon we'd be bottom 3
