Toast Tory Dickson is retiring

Thankful that he gave his best to the club at the crucial time and helped with that elusive flag. Was one of our most dangerous small forwards at his peak rarely missing a shot.

On one hand it’s a shame that he had so many injuries because I think with a clear run of form like 2015-16 he would have been regarded as one of the best small forwards of the era.

On the other, to reach over 100 games and become a premiership hero when you’ve been drafted at 24 is a great result.

Absolute Bulldogs legend.

Found this one, includes some from the finals

Bugger me if I didn't have a tear in my eye through most of that, esp the 2016 finals goals. There are lots of times Dicko pushed back across hb to help out as well, and his tackling was under-rated. But his goal-kicking was a thing of beauty. Lucky enough to play much of his career under the roof (68 games at Docklands for 117.34 return), but his technique was good anywhere (46 games at other venues for 64.27).

Some Dicko stats:

Played in 57 wins and 57 losses in his career (no draws).

85 games in Vic at 4 venues - 46 wins, 39 losses - 148.43. No wins at Eureka (only 1 game) or Kardinia Cow Paddock (4 games). In fact his only game at Eureka was 1 kick, 6 handballs, no scores (2017 R22 loss to Port).

29 games outside Victoria, 11 wins, 18 losses, 33.17. No goals at Carrara, Marrara and Football Park, never played in a win at Carrara (only game was this year), Football Park (again only 1 game), Gabba (4 games), Perth Stadium (2 games) or York Park (2 games). Only played in 1 win at Subi (what a win though!).

Free kicks career - 103 for, 58 against. Only had a negative free kick differential in - 2016!
* Negative 14-16 against in 2016 vs 25-6 for in 2015
* 10-1 positive free kick differential re Dees the best

Never made it to double figure games against any opponent, but no behinds at all v Saints, best goals per game average v Crows and Giants, only 3 goals in 4 games vs Suns!

Best goal kicking returns were 7 in a loss to Fremantle, then 6 in win v Crows, and 5 in a loss v Crows (2015 elim) - all at Docklands.

But 7 out of 8 times he kicked 4, we won. The only loss was his last 4 goal return v Saints in 2019.

His one and only game this year (and his last) yielded only 4 handballs - a disappointing end for someone who plied his trade with precision by foot.

2015 and 2016 - kicked 90 goals 29 behinds! In 2015, his 23 games included 14 where he kicked goals without any behinds at all, 4 games with behinds and no goals, and 1 game with 23 disposals without scoring! 2016 - kicked at least 1 goal in 19 of 22 games, and kicked at least one point in the other 3. 9 games where he kicked only goals (including a handy 3 straight in that last game at the G).

Tory Dickson looked like a great value draft pick in his first season with us, from his first game. And he just got better and better, 2015 & 2016 were spectacular years, he was right up there with the best forwards in the comp. Had a great defensive side to his game as well, perhaps overlooked a little in light of his goal kicking accuracy from set shots and on the run, but he used to get back deep over and over, get great possessions to help us take control of the ball and transition and then he would run hard to be the first back to the forward line to present again. He was one of those players who would regularly get "two possession goals" - where the player takes part in the build up and then butters up again and scores. He is a premiership player and his contribution on the day and for the entire finals series cannot be underestimated. He was one of the keys to 2016, never to be forgotten.

Players like Tory Dickson forced me to spend a couple of thousand dollars to fly out here for the 2016 Grand Final.

Thanks, Tory. Money well spent. A day I'll never forget.

We would not have won the 2016 premiership without Tory Dickson. I realise you could say that about a lot of our players from that finals series, but four goals in a very close and high pressure PF as part of an away team was an outstanding performance. I hope to one day thank him in person :thumbsu:

The other crucial thing for teammates and us supporters was feeling confident in his ability to convert set shots from most positions.

sackofballs - the only thing that could possibly enhance that Tory Dickson 2016 video(!) - is the last 60 seconds of the prelim!
You're pushing your luck GO!

Or did you rub the magic scrotum? ( That's two wishes, you have one left )

Yes, including two of the first 4 goals, the first put us in front and another later also gave us back the lead.

After watching that video, the one thing that stands out is his want to kick a goal. It drives me crazy when we have guys within kicking distance of goals who continually hand ball off rather than having a shot.

Take a shot FFS. You never know, you may just kick a goal.

There are instances in one or more of the videos of Macrae and Bont both handballing to Dickson when both are in a position to take a straightforward shot, and well inside 50. Mind-set or team rule? I'm guessing the former.

Does anybody follow Tory Dickson on Instagram? I’m relatively new to the app and my worst fears have come to pass. Basically I player I loved is now a person I cannot stand. Him and his new girlfriend are absolutely insufferable.

Yeah how dare the bloke fall in love and be a bit cringy on social media
Multiple pics of his girlfriend/wife and kids....am I missing something?

Just lots of lavish gifts and flaunting of wealth. She clearly loves the attention she gets on social media. Always massively done up and posing for the camera.

Maybe it’s normal these days and it’s just me getting old. I just don’t really like this ‘look how great my life is’ culture. I thought Dickson was a pretty down-to-earth bloke.

Perhaps I should stick to watching videos of cats.
