Just heard the Back and Half Back lines named on Mc Chins. I think Teddy Jarrard would have slipped under all our guards (though on reputation he just would have burst through!). I'm glad they found a spot for Micky as I thought they'd slot him on the bench and have Crosswell in the pocket. Quite like it so far.

Flippin' heck, just realised The Eddie McChinns Dribble Show won't be on up hear tonight because of the bloody tennis. Hope someone posts the full team before the nights out.

Will the centre line be Greig - Foote - Schimmelbusch? King and Schwass as smokeys for the wing? Stevens or Larkin for the pivot? Maybe Schwass/Laurie Dwyer on a wing and Schimma on a flank...

Lets see if I can rememeber this:

C: Greig Foote Dwyer

HF: Blight Carey Schimma

F: Dugdale Spencer Aylett

R: Teasdale Stevo Cable

IC: Kekovich Steward Crosswell Can't remember! Was it Davis?

Anyway,as Sam Newman said:" You'll never see a better team than that one anywhere!"

Yes it was Davis for the bench - I suppose the only real controversy surrounded Davis and Rantall being in the side despite rather short careers at the club after being dead set legends elsewhere.

200-game players to miss out are Longmire, McCann, Law and Blakey, with Schwass, King, Rock, Larkin, Henshaw and McKernan not being far away.

It's always hard to pick a best side spanning many generations, so comiserations to those who missed out, but it's hard to deny the claims of those who made it.

Congratulations to current members Archer, Carey, Stevens, Martyn and Pagan for their inclusions.

I would have preferred Larkin to Davis and anyone out of Schwass/King/Law/McCann/Blakey/Longmire to Rantall. Brent Croswell probably falls into the same category as Davis and Rantall as well.

Ultimately, you have to ask them the question, "Are you North Melbourne or Essendon/Swans?".

Martyn as a back pocket is a bit of a cop out as well as he's played his career at full back. So he should have been on the bench. But I suppose there is no higher honour than to be in the starting 18....and this team will never line up....so it's only a minor quibble from me.

Hey Darky - you forgot Fruity as a 200 game player who didn't make the team!!! I will have tohave words with you when I see you next:mad:

IMHO our bigfooty Greatest Ever NMFC Team would kick this teams ass... imagine no Jimmy... what a joke... it was a big enough insult that Phil wasn't even a nomination...

It all gets back to the critera used in naming the team. If I was on the committee I would have selected players that had played for North Melbourne only and had made their name at North Melbourne. Therefore I would have excluded the likes of John Rantall, Barry Davis, Brent Crosswell, Gary Dempsey, and even John Blakey etc..

However, that was not the critera. The critera was the players and coach whom have made the most significant contribution to the North Melbourne Footy Club over the past 100 years. Based on this critera I can understand how these players got a jumper, with the introduction of the 10 year rule in the 70's. They did make a significiant contribution which resulted in our first premiership.

Has John Rantall made a more significant contribution than say a David King? Well that is debatable.

Blight, Carey and Schimma.

No explanation required. Brilliant.

you sure you are not the poster formerly known as CIK? ;)

Anyway, I'm a bit dissapointed that both Krakouer's were not mentioned.....each of them was a great player but together....unbeatable!

I don't believe anyone is right or wrong on who should be included in the totc, too many players, too many conflicting memories.

Now a NMFC Hall of Fame dinner would be a good idea!

I've broken the team down into 4 groups/eras. 10 players from our 70's golden era,4 from the 90's ,3 from our first successful period of the late 40's to early 50's and 5 from a relatively unsuccessful period from the late 50's to 60's. You could argue that the 70's is over-represented and the 90's under but I would have to say that the 60's selections represent numbers not commensurate with our success. Aylett,Teasdale and Dwyer were out and out champions and had to be in but Steward and Dugdale, though both personal favourites of mine when I was growing up (wore Duggies #6 on my jumper!) and undoubted terrific players shouldn't be there, imho. I would have gone for Jimmy.K and Dempsey as this would have given the team a more balanced look and, well to be frank, they were just better players. As Shinners said it's all subjective but I think I'm right!
