Yeah, the main freeway (Monash) is right at Berwick's front door now, so it cuts off that time.

I once stayed in Pooraka, north of Adelaide, a couple years back when I came over to see the Footy. I believe that is closer to the city than where you live. Not too sure though. One question though, how do you pronounce it. We didn't know if it was poor or poo.

Yes, it's about 10-20 minutes from the CBD, depending what the traffic is like.

Poo-racka is how it is pronounced.

On that google satellite site link, move the blue box directly south from Salisbury until the box lines up with the A1 and A20. Pooraka is centre left.

I'm a a little closer than Berwick but I reckon 25mins is about right from there to the CBD on the weekend, and probably about 50mins in peak hour on average.

Its not a bad drive on the freeway, and the Monash has been good in the mornings, of late.

Its awesome after MCG games, when I park at Melbourne Park. I'm out of the carpark, straight on the freeway and home within 25 minutes. I used to park in the MCG carpark, it took me 25 mins just to get out of there.

Frankston population: 44,000
Berwick population 30,000

Frankston>Berwick.

Id imagine Berwick will have more by about 2010, maybe earlier judging by the estate that are springing up.

Here are some averages I have worked out.

Berwick holds .94% of Melbourne's population
On average each suburb holds 7,537 people
Berwick has more than 27,000 more people on average than any other suburb in Melbourne. That is 461% more on average!

Well when you include suburbs that have < 100 people of course the overall average is going to be low.

Care to quantify your top 3 pop. statement?

oh, cheap shot by guess_who to Lonie_from_50 :p

The actual distance for Berwick to Melbourne (I use Domain Tunnel as my indicator) it is (according to whereis.com.au) 40.17 km, therefore...at 100km/h consistent speed, will get you there in 24 minutes. ;)

Well, there you go! I was actually being generous with 25 mins :)

  • Obviously to help my point, but overall it is all true.
  • Excluding the CBD, I was thinking Frankston, Werribee and Berwick are top 3

According to Whereis.com, its 48 Km. Who cares, how far it is but it takes more than 30 mins unless ur travelling at ridiculous times! Besides, that doesn't improve the area.

You will soon get to Melbourne guess_who, after all, our getting closer.

Your transport there has improved over the years :p

Plane -> VLine -> Connex -> ???

CBD has sub 30000, it didn't hit 10000 until the early nineties.
