Grab a jet ski & do a lap around magnetic island, always good fun. Just be sure to wear a stinger suit & try to hang on. Palarenda channel isn't called Tiger Shark alley for nothingGo for a drive up into the rainforest as well. Paluma National Park is beautiful. Waterfalls galore & Paluma township itself houses about 120 people. About half way up to the town is an old stone bridge over a massive waterfall with about 5 tiers to it. You can take a dip in there then head up to town. Nice restaurant in Paluma & the turn off up to the dam is a few k past town. Road up to it's a little rough but well worth it. Little Birthday Creek Falls are spectacular. Seriously just explore the area. There's a good lookout heading up to Harveys Range & the teahouse up there has that uber catpoo coffee that costs $50 a cup. South you've got alligator creek, another national park & awesome swimming hole. If you want fresh food while yer there grab some from the farms out there on the roadside. $5 for a bag of mangoes (god I miss that) etc. Just don't get stuck in town the whole time you're there. There's plenty around the place to keep you well occupied.
What you say....or head west to Charters Towers - 130k away - old mining town..actually was there 2 weeks ago for their big race day, never saw so many Akubras and RM Williams in one place in my life..or north to Ingham (little Italy) then turn off to Lucinda..not bad fishing around there and the Hinchinbrook channel and on the way stop at the Frosty Mango for scrumptious icecream...great barra in batter at the Cardwell road house. If partial to decent fish and chips Harolds on the cnr Gregory St and The Strand doing a pretty mean fish and chips...barra is around $6 to $8 a piece or go for the seafood platter...
