He left behind his wife, two young children and a baby and his full-time job at Innisfail hospital – and has made no contact since.
...... “Raj is not capable of murder,’’ his brother-in-law .... Singh exclusively told The Courier-Mailat the family home in Innisfail.
“He is too quiet, too afraid. He was under a lot of tension from his work.
“But if he is guilty, we are yet to see any evidence to prove it.”
The Indian nurse had become troubled by his work treating elderly patients dying in hospital, Mr Singh said.
He’d disappear from home for days – spending long hours at secluded tropical beaches – and he stopped speaking.
But the timing of his disappearance and booking a flight to India the day Toyah was killed at Wangetti Beach, 40km north of Cairns, was coincidental, Mr Singh said.
“He was always going to the beach, he’d go to the beaches near here or up north of Cairns.
He was mentally upset and liked to go away from here.”
“Police told us they have no evidence that Raj killed her, but he is a person of interest,’’ Mr Singh said.
Four weeks ago a police taskforce raided the family home in Innisfail, cordoning it off as a crime scene, and seized personal items.

If the POI Rajwinder Singh was not the murderer or one of the murderers, maybe he saw who was, knew who was, or interacted with who was, and fled the country in panic and fear for his and his families safety.

Anything possible but scratches and bites indicates direct involvement imo. Unless there were two men alone on the beach that day.

He'd been taking off for long stretches of time in the previous seven weeks, according to family and sitting on deserted beaches.

He travelled about 100kms north from Innisfail to Cairns where Toyah was, then on further north again to Wangetti Beach. Was he following her?

It's possible imo he may have been stalking Toyah in those seven weeks he'd been behaving oddly waiting for opportunity. Most women when they're being stalked, don't even know it until the stalker wants them to know.

His family reported him missing three days before Toyah was murdered. Maybe he'd been staying at the Caravonia Caravan Park?

Mr Singh’s family had not heard from him for a number of days when Ms Cordingley was murdered on October 21.

It is understood he flew back to India the day Ms Cordingley was murdered and three days after his own family had reported him missing.

Maybe even beyond reasonable doubt.

Cairns Police has called for calm, saying there were "several persons of interest" and media scrutiny of Mr Singh's family was unhelpful.

"There's a danger that with this being reported that we have solved this and I can assure everyone that no, we haven't solved it, in fact we are a long, long way from the end of this investigation," he said.

Acting Sergeant Parker said the Australian Federal Police and the Indian Government were not involved in the investigation, despite media reports.

He said police are now looking into who leaked the information about Mr Singh being a person of interest. [\quote]

Are Channel 7 nicely positioned for being on the wrong side of a defamation law suit from the POI and/or his family, if the claimed POI is never charged for any offences regarding Toyah Cordingley. Particularly as Police are today reportedly claiming/implying that Channel 7 acted on incorrect, leaked and unauthorised sensitive Police investigation information form a murder case?

Would love to see the advice that Channel 7 legal provided to Channel 7 Management before going ahead with the POI story.

Pretty serious stuff to be reporting on POI in a murder investigation before the Police have formally authorised that this information can be publicly published.

"There is a reason why we don't release information about persons of interest," he said.
"We're unsure of how those media organisations got hold of that information.
"We don't know where it has come from and that's certainly the subject of another inquiry."

I did read the press confirmed Singh was not a POI but suspect with the police. I think the police might be worried about something, possibly vigilantism and needing the cooperation of the family.

IMO the information is probably correct because the press aren't easing up. They might be printing what the police are putting out now but they've dug in.

Where did you read that?

Was that a quote from Police, or a statement from one of the media organisations as to what they claim Police have told them?

The police are alleging that they never gave any authorised information to the media on Singh, prior to that first Ch7 broadcast on the POI.

Of course it's possible that Police told someone at the Hospital Singh worked at, or others they interviewed about Singh, that Singh was a suspect, and that this info found its way to the media from the Hospital or someone else that the Police told.

In a tweet. The press said it AFTER the cops started complaining and Mr Gardiner made his facebook post. They doubled down. I'll try and find it.

'We want him to surrender and tell us the truth': Family of 'person of interest' in Toyah Cordingley's murder beg the male nurse to return from India - as local police form a special task force to track him down"

The family of an Indian male nurse who boarded a plane within hours of a 24-year-old woman's body being discovered on a Queensland beach have pleaded for their son to return home and 'tell them the truth'.

Singh has been named as a 'person of interest' by Queensland Police, and Indian police have confirmed they have formed a special unit to locate the father.

The formation of the task force followed a request to find and arrest the nurse, who had lived in Innisfail.
His father Amar is also trying to track down his son, having gone to India's Punjab region and knocked the doors of family in search of answers.
'We want him to surrender himself and come home and tell us the truth,' Singh's brother-in-law Harpreet Singh told The Sunday Mail.

His brother-in-law said: 'If he has to divorce his wife, he should do that, too, but he needs to make everything clear.

...his family believe he could be camping out in a Sikh temple where he would receive free accomodation.

"Indian police exclusively confirmed to The Sunday Mail plans to form a special taskforce after an official request to track down and arrest the Innisfail father-of-three."

"Police in his home town of Armitsar in Punjab told The Sunday Mail they had received a request to find and arrest Rajwinder, but were yet to locate him."

"It is understood no Interpol notice has been issued in his name."

“The best thing is we can form a special team and look for the (person of interest),’’ said an officer of Amritsar District who did not want to be named.
“A special team can work independently to track any (person of interest)."

"Mr Singh’s family plan to fly to India over Christmas to try to find him."

"Mr Singh, who was “mentally upset”, abruptly left his job at Innisfail Hospital and flew out of Cairns the day the 24-year-old’s body was found."

"He flew to Sydney and stayed with his sister before flying to India the next day, his family said."

"Mr Singh’s family say he was behaving strangely before he vanished but do not believe he was capable of murder."

"Queensland Police have told the family he hasn’t used his credit cards or bank accounts since leaving."

Introduction Under Sikhism, divorce is treated aversely and even considered ‘taboo’. The provisions for seeking divorce are stipulated under the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955.
Grounds for Divorce under the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955
The following grounds can be invoked for securing a divorce under the act:
1. Adultery: During the period of marriage, if either spouse maintains sexual relations with a person other than his or her lawfully wedded companion.
2. Cruelty: After the marriage, subjecting the petitioner to cruelty.
3. Desertion: If either one of the parties to the marriage deserts the other for a consistent span of at least two years , prior to the filing of the petition by the other party.
4. Conversion to another religion by either party other than Hinduism
5. Mental Disorder: If the spouse of the petitioner suffers from any unsoundness of mind, mental illness or disorder that cannot be cured, then the petitioner can file for divorce.
6. Virulent and Incurable Disease: in the form of leprosy.
7. Venerable Disease in Communicable form.
8. The renunciation of the world or entered any religious order.
9. Not heard being alive for a period of seven years or more.

# 3 and 9 could potentially be what is happening here.

However my gut is telling me that Singh is a person of interest for several reasons not just because he's fled the country the day after the murder occurred.

Heart breaking.

Troy Cordingley said in a Facebook post today that he felt "lost and empty inside" at the loss of his daughter.

Mr Cordingley said in the post that he had recorded a public appeal with the police that was due to be shown on TV this week, but police had decided not to run it due to "the media undermining their investigation".
This is very disappointing but I completely understand their reasoning once it was explained to me," he wrote.

These are great, in Cairns now and coming Australia wide soon. The Safety Bracelet, press a button and it sends out an alert to anybody who is registered within 500 metres, sends an emergency alert to nominated people or your guardian network and starts to record.

Looks like a fitbit.

Similar situation after Hannah Foster was abducted and murdered in London. Person of interest (who became the main suspect) married immigrant Maninder Pal Singh Kohli fled to the Punjab within days and disappeared. The police in India and his family initially insisted he'd killed himself. It took 16 months to find him and not until Hannah's parents made the trip to India to appear on national TV pleading for information on his whereabouts.

He'd created a new identity in that time and had even remarried, he was caught just near the border where he was trying to get out of India and disappear into Nepal.

This was in 2003 so technology might be more helpful now, I don't mean to be depressing.
