Its a pity that some people are judged or are judging, not by the quality of their posting but by where they've come from. Especially considering we as a club are up and about so much.

... and we are OneClub.

okay so heres the question for all of us that are new here or considered refugees if we want make people feel excluded.

Is this a public forum or a private one?

Yes but reading isnt posting and Im getting the idea that the public forum here isnt as open as it appears

If you are saying that our board is closed to new people in that people aren't made to feel welcome then I would strongly disagree.

One ex TPFP'er ( who comes on here occasionally ) told me at the Port v Aint's trial, that when a heap of us made the transition to bigfooty, he got the impression that some scruffy kids from Challa Gardens primary school had gate crashed the Prince Alfred college sports day and lowered the tone of the place. lol

Just get out there and post. It's human nature to be suspicious of new things and that cuts both ways. BigFooty is different, it's a bigger community, you get other team supporters and often they give us great information and assistance. Sure there are troublemakers but we do our best to gatekeep those out. We have rules to enforce but it's not like you're wrapped in chains either.

I think it's just like venturing into any new environment. Have to earn your stripes (prison bars) a little i guess.
TPFP posters - proud of the past, confident of the future :thumbsu:

Yeah I'd disagree too, apart from one instance I haven't seen many issues between BF vs TPFP posters.

You just have to get out there & make an effort to get to know the people whilst being respectful/open minded that this a new environment, but it is best to try & get along with members who've been here longer rather than going down the confrontational route we've seen from the small minority the last day & a bit.

I don't know how well I've been received but I can say I've felt welcomed from most people & would like to think I can make a new batch of mates who enjoy discussing sport, my favorite club & can tolerate my opinions on these topics.

As RIT said there's always a hazing period in any new site, I had it at TPFP in 09 where I didn't post much for half a year whilst observing my surroundings but it didn't take long to feel comfortable much like here at Big Footy.

I see that our old TPFP mate Tool, now known as DMN8 I believe, has made themself known to the mods

In the end, all it is is a forum to discuss football. Its as simple as that. Get out there, interact, give your opinion, get involved in the banter. Sometimes opinions or statements will be questioned, just like real life. Sometimes this will lead to debate, sometimes heated debate and thats fine.

Just get out and post!!

If it will help people get over it, I will apologise for using the word 'refugee'. But first, I will once again say that I did not mean any offence by it. I saw it as a way of succinctly describing a group of people who had started posting here after finding their previous preferred forum closed. I thought the metaphor was apt. Again, I did not intend it to reflect any odium upon those within the group. For that offence, I'm sorry.

FWIW, I am a bleeding heart liberal who sees refugees as, generally, adding to the communities they join. I do truly feel sorry for anyone who sees them as 'invaders' or any lesser members of those communities. That is the context in which I used the word.

I guess posting in TPFP was like cheering in the members. You had to be a little more cautious of what you said. It did keep people inline from time to time but it also may have inhibited people from 'spilling their guts'.
I have enjoyed both contexts.

I never got to know TPFP but for what its worth I lurked here most of 2013, signed up in early August, made about 4 posts that month, and now I'm hooked and can't shut up here. This is a very welcoming and inclusive place, even for scruffs like me! :thumbsu:

The ability to comprehend at a grade 5+ level, a bit of tolerance and not directing venom at other posters is all most forums want. I don't think you'll have any issues here helenbee if you follow those rules.

I can't blame BF'ers for not wanting their forum filled with spiteful aggression.

Mr Meaner, FWIW I think the "refugee" terminology was fine and apt under the circumstances. Paper thin skin won't last long on any forum.

Edit: I should also add that TPFP wasn't really a "preferred" forum. I found TPFP back in 98 or 99 and prior to that used to get the weekend papers posted to me express so I could read the reviews on Tuesday in Bris. TPFP was a godsend for tragics like me that wanted to know all the latest news. I discovered BF a few years later and just lurked, particularly when TPFP was quiet. If BF came first it's quite possible almost all of my posting would've been here.

as much as i enjoyed TPFP it is no longer, time to move on accept the change and get on with it, im new here but at the same time im enjoying the experience........no issue whatsoever and at the end of the day its "footy" not bloody politics thats why that other so called "south Australian" based forum is a joke!!....(and im not referring to TPFP)....:):):):)

To me, and this is just my opinion, the main difference that separated the 2 sites was that TPFP was more a closed minded environment...caused by the isolation from other clubs. BF, with it's more cosmopolitan environment, is more an open minded affair. Open your minds, go with the flow and post your thoughts...resist and you will be stuck in the vacuum that is all that remains from a closed site...forever. As underlings, we do not get to choose the rules or the posters or the content....ours is to adapt to our surroundings
