With regard to Campbell and Murphy, wouldn't the keep one or both of them argument depend to an extent on what happens with Pavlich (hopefully a simple re-signing). If he stays, perhaps one of them is expendable. If not, likely to have to keep both?

Nope , one injury / loss of form / suspension would see us scratching again.

Out of curiosity, when you say Dunn has no trade value, would that mean if a team were to offer saya 3rd round pick, you will snap him up. I understand he has had numerous injury problems, but with such a decorated junior career, surely he would be worth something.

I'd love to see the club trade Mundy, but it won't happen.

If we traded Mundy it would come back and bite us on the ass bigtime I reckon. The guy's got some serious talent. Future AA I'm tipping. We just need the coaching staff to breed some toughness into him.

It depends on the quality of the trade. If it is for a player who will bite the tradees ass, then it's bite for bite.

I assume you mean Simon Black - not Heath Black.

Might happen, but my guess is it would be unlikely. He's been in Brisbane for 10 years now, just played his 200th game. He's spent his whole adult life there, so unless there's a specific pull from family I'd guess he'll play out his career there.
Hard to have a family pull when the family moved to Brisbane. I think it came out when he won his Brownlow.

I'd like to start some discussion amongst Freo supporters on trading.

Who do you think Fremantle should trade out of the side come end of season?

What tradable players from other teams do you think would add the most to a Fremantle lineup?
At the end of this year we could delist Parker, McManus, Cook, Browne, Hadrill, and Walker. JLo might retire. I think McManus would be worth a spot as insurance. Bellie would go onto the Veterans list as I imagine he is on a back ended contract because of this. So there is a fair bit of salary available to lure someone.

With a lot spots free you'd only trade if you really had to. You might do a swap. That's why I think Murphy and Campbell would stay. Possibly Walker as well.

I would trade Mundy in a heartbeat if I thought Scotty Thornton would last a whole season. Giving up that chase on Ablett was the sealer for me.

Ultimately, a players value will depend on what the other club needs and how bad they need them.

Belly will only be in his 9th year at the club (there's that small matter of the 5 years he spent elsewhere), so can't go onto the Vets list till 2009. His contract finishes in 2008.

Parker and Macca are veterans so they will free up spots on the rookie list, they don't count towards our 3 compulsory delistings.

If J-Lo retires he won't free up a spot because he is contracted, but we could promote a rookie. Michael Voss is still on Brisbane's list.

Cook + Walker + Browne and/or Haddrill will be delisted.

I think we have the depth to cover Mundy. Drum, Dunn and Duffield can all play half back, and we have Ibbo and O'Brien coming through aswell.

Mundy's trade value is much greater than Polak's. Lets say we get pick 12, we could trade that pick with Mundy for pick 5 and get a gun midfielder.

Can't believe so many people are looking to show Mundy the door....

So we send Mundy on his way, and upgrade by 7 spots (say)??

We upgraded by 5 spots with Polak + they threw pick 47 in, which we used to get Solomon.

Surely Mundy would be worth more than that....

I'd expect a third round pick aswell, but with pick 5 we would be close to guaranteed a good player. We could possibly get the second best midfielder in the draft depending on the needs of other clubs and the calibre of talls available this year.

I just think there is very little difference between Mundy and some of our guys who aren't currently playing. Once Duffman and Drum have played another 10-20 games I expect them to be better than Mundy currently is. Mundy is a half back flanker who doesn't take contested marks. He's a poor mans Michael Johnson. Mundy plays a position where we have close to a dozen options, and his trade value is high.

If Mundy was to miss some games do you think it would hurt the team like missing Johnson, Farmer, Black and Peake did?

Some people won't be happy until we have a team of Cooks and McManus's. Then they'll spend all their time whinging we've got no players with any skill.

Mundy is one of our most reliable players with the ball. He's calm, poised and one of the best kicks in the team. Considering our lack of players with genuine penetration in their kicking I think he's a very important player.

I agree, he's only still a pup. Lighten up!

The selectors obviously do. He's never looked like getting dropped has he?

I think him being named on the interchange bench is somewhat in that very direction i mean its hard not to deny his talent but i've watched him closely from bay 124 and it seems to me either a) He want to go home and is playing for it b) The guy just doesn't like doing it rough, wants an armchair ride without the dirty work or c) He's just lazy

Not so much show him the door but rather capitalise on the opportunity to get a much needed player for us in the mould of a speedy centerman, he's undeniably talented but i doubt we'll get the best out of him in WA

Mundy always looks to be cruising, everything he does looks effortless and as such people think he is without passion. I'm of the opinion that he just reads the play so easily and moves with such confidence that it gives people a misguided view of his game. I'm just damn glad he's playing at Freo and not anywhere else! He is one player that in my opinion is not tradable unless he forced the club.

Spot on.Trading him away just at around the the 60 game mark would smack of Clement, IMO.

None of that explains him giving up the chase on Ablett Jr when another 5-10 metres he might have had him.

How do you explain his moving forward of the play rather than shepherd the ball carrier -- which puts the ball carrier under pressure and creates more turnovers. Its these things that supporters notice.

He does take contested marks but usually as third man in. We do have plenty of penetrating kicks in our back half. Hayden, Johnson, Grover, Black. Its our midfield that has trouble over more than 40m.

I'm not sure if this is entirely correct. Mal Michael "retired" too, but was released from his contract which still had a year to run. His payment still counts in the Salary Cap, but his spot on the list is freed up. At least that's how I understand it.

i think if you retire and still want to get paid then you have to stay on the list e.g. Michael Voss. I imagine that would be the path Jlo would want to go down if he couldn't play on.

If you want out of a contract and retire like Michael did then you forfeit the remaining salary and it is not counted in the cap.

I think.

This is a bit of speculation on my part, but bare with me.

If Pavlich wasn't to re-sign, what trade would "ease the pain" or so to speak?

I've been reading the equivalent thread on the power & adelaide board and it seems that the best possible outcome is the two clubs compete for his signiture thus giving us the upper-hand. A good trade from what i've gathered:

From Port: D.Pearce + N.Krakouer + 1st rnd draft pick.

From Crows: Van Berlo + Sellar + 1st rnd draft pick.

Everyone is capable of the old brain fart now and then. People make mistakes. So let me get this straight, your willing to trade a lad because he made 1 mistake? Some areas need coaching and developing. He's still just a kid! Do you honestly think the coaches don't look at the tapes and coach the team or ...!? I'm puzzled...
