It defies logic that Ablett would want to come home.

By all rights GC should challenge for finals next year and contend for flags from 2016-17.

Those same years are when we will lose some of the club's all time great players.

This isn't like LeBron James 'going home' after winning back to back titles at Miami and wanting to do the same at the Cavs. Ablett would be turning down potential/probable success at the Suns for a team that shouldn't be challenging.
All depends what is happening up there behind the scenes too. Noone knows but we can speculate!

If the story about the knocking up of some girl is true, and his gf is pi$$ed.

Maybe we should just play hardball, first round pick, re-sign or your going into the draft. Either Melbourne or St Kilda can pick you up there (not sure if he would pick the draft or pre-seaon draft, don't know how it all works)

I'd rather do a St Kilda with Ball then let him go for a crappy 2nd round pick.

Maybe that will be the best medicine for not manning up to your mistakes. Anyway your still getting paid 300k a year, it's not like your whole life is wasted

some of you guys have enjoyed success far far too much.

Can anybody name a worse trade than we are about to cop. Welcome to the record books.
Ablett for 2 compo picks tied to our ladder position wasn't great but that wasn't a trade so...

West Coast only got Pick 28 & 49 for Brad Ebert & 45.

Jay Schulz only netted Richmond Mitch Farmer & Pick 71.

Collingwood received pick 46 for Rhyce Shaw & 61.

And the big one of recent times - Hawthorn lost Kennedy & McGlynn for picks 39, 46 & 70.

Clearly it is all subjective and with the benefit of hindsight.

Of those mentioned, I only really recall West Coast suggesting they weren't getting value for Ebert at the time of the trade.

#15 yes, the Eagles #11 obviously would have been better but if both parties come out of it happy and we get 15, I think it's as good as what we were hoping for. Still under's in my view for a player of Bundy's quality and it will be upto Stephen Wells to try and find something just as good, if not better.
We already got 15?

Been corrected. :)

We lost this trade when we let his contract run down, all we are doing now is trying to salvage something from the wreckage. There is an admission amongst all clubs that the club losing the player gets the poor end of the deal. Players move frequently now, so the only way you regain ground is to get someone from another club next year.

We are on the losing end here but that is through bad management and we will pay a price. Hopefully lessons are learnt and we sign up Motlop and Hawkins a bit earlier next year.

Brisbane took unders for their players last year. They will expect us to do the same. Deal with it. It is our problem, not theirs this time.
I understood the club has been trying to get him signed for several months - perhaps as far back as this time last year while he was contracted. Bundy allegedly held off as he felt with a big 2014 he could get a bigger offer, but was happy to be at Geelong. His back, concussions etc took a toll on that clearly.

IMO, the club has tried to get this done thru the year and Bundy did not play ball. Now, as a result of HIM not signing, all this other stuff has blown up and we are where we are. The most disappointing thing is that Bundy himself can't seem to see the forrest for the trees at the moment and just wants out - irrespective of the fact that is short changes the club incredibly.

After a pick 40 odd and becoming an integral part of and future planning element of the club going forward, he lays this hand grenade and walks out.
Im sure the club will try and accommodate but **** me is it too hard for him to see that he could at least TRY to make the deal of fair value.

Ideally he'd sign a 1 yr deal under the agreement that GFC would still trade him this year but for fair value - but as is becoming apparent, fair value is just a thing of the past.

So Patfull has gone to GWS for p21 @ 29yo with a career average of 11 touches a game vs Bundy at 23yo with a career average of 19 touches and on the rise.

If we settle for that p21 being passed on, I will be beyond pissed at the GFC management. Brisbane are kidding themselves if that's their offer.

to be fair, Patfull is a tight defender in say the Ben Stratton/Dale Morris mold - he's actually a decent player imo, not sure why Brisbane got rid of him (or did he walk?).

He wanted to move to Sydney because his post football business plans are there.

Yes, he is good but he's not Bundy and he's 29yo.

Wanted to go as he cheated on his missus and got another girl pregnant.

:)

Was going to move to Sydney when his career was up anyway, just got to do it earlier.

Average possessions is irrelevant when you're discussing a key defender. I believe he also came 3rd in Brisbane's B&F whereas Bundy was plagued by injury.

Can pick 24 that GWS has earmarked for Jack Steele in the ND be traded? They could then use pick 40 for Steele (still a 2nd round pick). I realise it's far from ideal, but if we were offered 21 and 24 for Christensen it would be slightly less painful.

And I bet most of the players wouldn't be able to handle being stuck in a job they hate earning 60k a year and supporting a wife and toddler

I'm not saying for a moment they don't have issues but a lot of them could do with a dose of living in the real world
I'm sure they'd be able to 'handle it', just as we do, but it would certainly make them appreciate their own life much more.

That sums up modern footballers. Completely agree. It doesn't seem to occur to them to do one thing.........

Be honest.
I agree to some extent. But it is broader than Footy players. It is everyone, isn't it?
What I hear most people saying in this thread is that actually, when it comes down to it, we would like a club based on Character First. ;)
