I'm "gung-ho" for us not having a gaping hole in our midfield for 5 years while we develop these kids you're talking about.
We have a big problem with a lack of 23-28 year old players, which is typically the sort of age bracket that puts you in serious contention.
And I think your views on S. Selwood are pretty silly, but that's another argument. IMHO he would be a walk up starter at Geelong.
Agree to disagree - he might come, I wouldn't have a clue..
But to me, the appeal of an a-grade mid developed by the club (actually, preferably a
group of a-grade mids developed by the club) outweighs the benefits of bringing in someone like Selwood.
We're going to have gaping holes anyway, all over the field, if you're comparing us with the top echelon of teams, someone like S. Selwood will make bugger all difference there.
If we're looking to patch that hole, we need 2, 3 mids 23-28 years old in order to make a genuine difference (on top of what we already have).
The list will remain lop-sided regardless of Scott Selwood, and I have concerns that taking a further piecemeal approach to list-building is inviting an extended period of mediocrity.
Selwood would be a shortcut, it's just not going to come together if we continue with this patchwork approach, I don't think.
