Mind you he really stood out at St Kilda...

.. as a shit truck
Irrelevant. It doesn't matter how he played after the trade. Its what we got for him at the time he was traded - you think pick 91 is fair for an AA premiership ruckman?
I've had about 5 replies to this now and all of them miss my simple point - that this club are mediocre traders. Not as good as some clubs and mistakes have been made in the past. Its a very reasonable statement. I have broader questions:
Why does everyone here think Neil Balme is a good list manager? Why doesn't anyone here blame him when mistakes are made?

Football is not finite. He's playing for the club he loves, who he's followed from being a boy.

The hypothetical issues you are raising just don't match up. Then to drop it on the club like he has, is quite disgusting.

It's a smack down, for no reason at all other than his own immature decisions in life.
Read again what I said.
From a mate that is close to the family and works at the Lara footy club the talk of a baby to a random chick is completely false.
Now I'm not saying he DIDNT cheat, as I wasn't told either way, but I was told there is definitely no child.

We can do this. Then he might walk next year.

It's not releveant. He wants to leave Geelong. He doesn't want to be here or play for the club. Do you think he'll put 100% effort next year if we force him?

Might as well trade him now for something.
All I'm saying is that our hand isn't forced if he does still have a year to play out. The fear of walking doesn't seem to be swaying either the Pies or the Bulldogs, so if the club doesn't receive any offers that it deems appropriate no reason we can't take a similar stance.

So instead of making a former club captain wait and go through the PSD process, helping him get to his club of choice is a bad thing?
Yes it is if the club doesn't get something reasonable in return - the very definition of good trading.
Spuds like Hampson cost pick 20 something while premiership ruckman West and King, who have actually achieved something, only command a pick in the 40s and 90s. Fair enough that we treat players well. I'm just saying we aren't that good at trading as we are at drafting. Sounds like a reasonable statement to me.

edit: here you go;

that is bloody terrific by their president!
Really assertive and virtually put the spotlight right back on the exiting player. Not only did I feel as though the words were genuine and sincere but it made Griffin out to be a pretty piss poor individual to agree on something on face value but change your decision immediately after returning from holiday. Not really the type of person you'd want captaining a young team like the Bulldogs.

Bye bye Captaincy....
He might help Footscray VFL win a premiership next season, though. Will that make him happy?

the first thing i saw about it was a GWS tweet this morning. surely clubs shouldn't be announcing that a player wants to come to your club until a bit of ground work has been done, otherwise if things go sour everyone looks like a tool.

same with chriso, the news came from his agent calling brissy tuesday night. what the hell?

is it some strategy to put pressure on the club to 'do the right thing' or something?

anyway, this sort of news should only come out when an actual trade is done in my opinion. look at varcoe, shopped around last year as well, now three or four clubs linked to him this year too. imagine if no deal is done again.

He's a professional athlete. These things happen all the time. Look at Wayne Rooney if you want an example of a sportsman still able to do play to the best of his abilities after being denied a trade he requested and held to the terms of his contract.

If we keep him - which we unequivocally must, if he's contracted - then he will put in the effort.

It looks like there's legitimate interest in Varcoe now. Didn't seem like he really attracted any strong interest last year.

if he doesn't his next contract be it at the cats or elsewhere wont be quite as juicy as what is likely on the table now.

King was worth absolutely nothing when he was traded.
