All I'm saying is that our hand isn't forced if he does still have a year to play out. The fear of walking doesn't seem to be swaying either the Pies or the Bulldogs, so if the club doesn't receive any offers that it deems appropriate no reason we can't take a similar stance.
If Frawley is worth Pick 3 as free agent compensation, then we will likely get more for Bundy if he walked as a free agent than what we are seemingly being asked to accept now. Play hardball Cats.

Agreed.

It was a win for the club to have his contract taken off our hands.
The bigger win was the Saints taking Gardiner's contract off our hands as part of a package deal. I am convinced that the club said to St Kilda that we would give them King for nothing if they took Gardiner and his contract (2 years left to run from memory) aswell.

Would you guys rather Pick 15 for christensen or Pick 21 + Pick 25?
Would you rather lose a hand or a foot.

If we lose Bundy, Lonergan Varcoe , Stringer, Schroder, Burbs.
We add Blitz , Clark
That's 4 picks. If we get another player which now I think we will , we will look at the delisted guys .... means we will still only have three picks.
14,15 and a late pick
14, 21, 25.
It gets back to who we end up with. But 14 and 15 , we may end up with Weller and Cockatoo and a mature mid.

Won't be an FA for a while though. Moot point.

If he's contracted we'd be moronic to do either of those deals.
If he is contracted we'd be moronic to do any of those deals. If he is contracted we keep him and this thread is rendered void.

It is only a valid discussion as he might be uncontracted, otherwise no trade.

bugger - these rules are way too complicated.

It does mean that the only way he can move is either via trade or the draft. Hey Bundy - do ya feel lucky?
http://www.afl.com.au/afl-hq/the-afl-explained/free-agency

E.g.
If Ryder were to be delisted - he would have had 8+ years up and therefore is an FA.
Bundy is delisted - he's had what 5 years and not an FA.

Player at end of contract been there for 8 years walks (assuming he's not a RFA) fine.
Player at end of contract been there for 5 years to the draft you go son. (Just like the old rules)

you pick one

Do you really think the Cats would hold a guy back who genuinely wants to leave for personal reasons?
Shit thing to do.
I'm yet to see anything here that moving is going to solve, some way to go in discussions yet I hope.

2 draft picks

means 2 chances to get the next joel selwood
or the next Mitch Thorpe or the next Tenace. Give me a bird in the hand ..

The truth is .... the only person who could really say if 15 is better than 21 and 25 is wells. My issue is the later you get , the more like he gos the best long term talent and a longer leadup time. Like Thurlow , Hartman, Hamling etc. I do not question what he can find and we can gran a kid and have him play in 2015.... doubt it big time. Our replacement for Bundy is on our list now and its not there.

He can leave for a fair deal. How many times can u tell people that the current deals arent fair. Go through all the trades of the last two yrs. Lets see what the dogs get for griffins last 50 games of afl. Reckon theyll settle for pick 24 or say the pick the giants got from O'Rouke???

you gotta have faith in wells, no point in saying his the best in the business but yet dont give him the picks.

people seem to think picks 21 25 even 30 are the end of the world, its not.

we gave away prismall to essendon for pick 39, we used that pick for motlop.

say we get rid of varcoe for pick 30
or allen for 21 and 25

geez lookout in a few years time....lookout

we may just need them youngsters to compete against gc and gws

He's a professional athlete. These things happen all the time. Look at Wayne Rooney if you want an example of a sportsman still able to do play to the best of his abilities after being denied a trade he requested and held to the terms of his contract.

If we keep him - which we unequivocally must, if he's contracted - then he will put in the effort.
Wayne just uses it to bump up his contract, in a sport that doesn't have a SC, for a club with a huge wage bill

The club has to look after its own interests as well as the interests of the players. Unless Brisbane or Gold Coast can facilitate an offer that allows us to satisfy both of those things, then we keep him.

OK stick with me kids.

Bundy and pick 15 to Brisbane.

Pick 5 to Cats.

Cats trade pick 5 to GWS

Sexy young GWS thing to Cats and 19 (and 21? or some other later draft swapping around).

GWS get 4 and 5 which they can give to Saints for pick 1.

How can any rational person cop that. We have the best recruiter in the business so we should be absolutely incompetent traders and make his job as difficult as possible to cover that up. Wells has nothing to do with this. Get him a pick 7 and then he'll get us a selwood

Fair point about the lack of salary cap in the Premier League, but it certainly wasn't only motivated by a desire to increase his contract. He submitted a formal transfer request. If Manchester United had called his bluff he would have been out of there, and while I agree he used the transfer request as a threat ("bump up my contract or I'm out of here!"), there's no way he would have taken the risk if he wasn't prepared to move.

It's like saying "I've got a Maserati, it's a great car so it will run on motor mower fuel". No you have a Maserati so you pump it full of premium fuel.
