Do you really think the Cats would hold a guy back who genuinely wants to leave for personal reasons?
Shit thing to do.
If he told the club halfway through the trade period giving them no time to organise a fair trade and the other club wont present a fair trade to us, yes we would.

Situation is not the club's fault

OK stick with me kids.

Bundy and pick 15 to Brisbane.

Pick 5 to Cats.

Cats trade pick 5 to GWS

Sexy young GWS thing to Cats and 19 (and 21? or some other later draft swapping around).

GWS get 4 and 5 which they can give to Saints for pick 1.
I was with you until 'sexy young GWS thing'. Is this anyone in particular?

I like your thinking:thumbsu:

We're reasonable traders. So the deal should be fair. We were reasonable with West last year when they were getting reemed. If they reem us, that's their call...expect no favours when Taylor, Gardiner come out of contract that's all.

Pick 91 for Steven King for a start. An AA and premiership player who was the standout ruckman on GF day.
Waiting for the reply 'but we didn't need him anymore anyway'.
Collingwood and Hawthorn have never done such a thing
We were lucky that St.Kilda were kind enough to fund his retirement. He fell away in almost every statistical area since he left us and only played 6 games for us in 2007. He was my favourite player but by 2007 he was just about cooked.

If he is contracted we'd be moronic to do any of those deals. If he is contracted we keep him and this thread is rendered void.

It is only a valid discussion as he might be uncontracted, otherwise no trade.
I agree with this, and honestly, the club shouldn't be trading any of Christensen, Lonergan or Varcoe. The Christensen and Lonergan saga's have seemingly relegated the Varcoe situation to a matter of lesser importance on our collective Geelong supporting agenda, but the significance of the potential loss is not something I consider a triviality. I would keep all of them (though again, I base this on the possibly misguided assumption that Bundy is contracted)

The club is in a good position. We've worked hard to put ourselves there. We're bringing in a player in Mitch Clark who, if he works out, puts us in an even better position. Why on earth would we actively compromise that by trading out necessary, contracted players?

Any of our vets are fair game..... Except Boris I don't care if they rotate him in and out next year as long as he gets 12 games... No one more deserving of the 300 club than Enright.

Scarlett in his last year was quite funny, morphed into a grumpy old man.

Not to us. Was still worth more than 91 IMO.
Fine. that's an OK opinion but our last pick in that year was Donohue at 60 (F/S), so unless we could have netted a pick better than 60 for King, what are we arguing about? and I doubt we would have got a sub 60 pick personally.

Depends if he's contracted or not. Seems no one really knows. If he is, I'd be pushing for 15 + some. Prefer to keep him though. He's easily in our best 3-4 mids.
It looks as if he has signed 3x2 year contract meaning that he is still under contract for next year

Wouldn't it actually need to be a pick above 50 - Dan McKenna, our last pick prior to our f&s selction, because any pick between 51 & 60 would have been used on Donohue so wouldn't really have made much difference as to where that one fell.
The only way an increased pick for King may have worked in our favour was if it were a top 30 pick and we would never have got that for him - the club did the right thing by King and the reason 2007 draft didn't turn out fantastic for us was because of the players we took at each pick (barring Taylor @ 17) rather then what compo we did or didn't get in the King trade.

Yep even slimmer chances of that happening.
