It doesn't matter what Bundy's market value is, what he's worth to Brisbane, or even what he ends up getting traded for. Suggestions of a trade for Pick 21 is just downright insulting.

Christensen, Duncan and Motlop are the guys we're building a team around. Every single list management decision in the last three years has been made with that timeframe in mind - how do we ensure we have the best side we possibly can when these guys are in their prime?

On top of that, one of our biggest problems this season is that we're one top end midfielder short of what we ideally should have. With Christensen gone we'll be two short.

All this is to say, because of the situation we're in - you simply cannot put a price on how valuable Christensen is to us. Even if a team paid astronomical overs for him and gave up something like pick 1, it would still absolutely kill us in the short term. The only deal that would be anywhere close to being fair for us would be if we received a midfielder of similar ability and age in return - which we won't.
I agree with everything you say here, especially the fact that he is one of the key players we have been building a side around. But he is clearly going, and we clearly have to live with that reality and get what we can. That said, if what we are offered is so under (pick 20 something) I think the best strategy is to show him the draft and hope he baulks at that prospect, buying us another year.

I understand where you're coming from, Collingwood are wanting some of our future stars, who while may not be as good as Beams, and would be a fair trade, are our future, and after losing 5 young guys last year we are more intent on building culture with what we've got then shopping it for stars...

It is Collingwood, shows the difference between clubs where Geelong is seemingly looking to do the 'right thing' and get a fair deal done, Collingwood just trying to get extra for themselves
It is definitely true that Collingwood are difficult to trade with. That is a reputation they have earnt for a reason.

As a result it may mean a fair trade may not eventuate between Brisbane and Geelong...

Hoping that if Aish does go he makes his way to Adelaide a year later

LOL………………………………thats a no mate!
Haha, worth a try. If we were to get Christensen somehow, Hall would be the one who'd lose his spot in our top 22 imo. Bit of a lazy campaigner though - I'd love to see Scott drill him into actually performing tbh

True, I see what you are saying. Though there is a hope among Geelong fans that COLL's stubbornness is a win for us, as if the Beams deal doesn't happen BRIS might be tempted to up the ante on Christensen. BRIS has been talking about having cash and looking to land a big fish. If the only big signing left is Christensen, then there is an outside chance we get pick 5. Though I think that scenario is very unlikely.

By the way, should you land Christensen you will realize very quickly that he is well worth a first rounder. A gun who at 23 is already only a little behind Beams, and probably has a bigger upside.

Christensen isn't exactly old sometimes to get you've got to give

It's more the culture thing, obviously I'd trade pretty much any of our under 22 guys straight for AC, and it would be a bargain, but the club looks like it is taking a stand after what happened last year

Yep, personally I'd be happy to pass on Beams and take our chances on him next year, just to guarantee getting Christensen, but at the same time, with the contract situation it's hard to know how cheap we will be able to get him for and so I think we could possibly take a gamble on pick 21 and/or 25. Although this is definite unders for him, Geelong can take it, or Christensen could possibly leave through the draft (although I doubt this would eventuate as it's not a problem he has with the actual club by the sounds of things)

Do they have cap space after bringing in Malceski?
Not sure what the source is, so it could be complete rubbish, but I read that GC are offering 380k whereas Brisbane are offering 450k, hence Christensen requesting a trade to the Lions.

that's nice and all but after Ablett got poached and we gave them our compensation pick in exchange for Caddy (star) & Smedts (done glory be all so far) and then to lose a whole batch of promising youngsters to possible career-ending injuries . . Menzel, Vardy & Simpson. We are being dealt a very unfair blow once more.
Appreciate Brisbane's fact as you guys would be one of a few who have been in a similar boat and had plenty of young talent miss to long-term injuries but it's getting too much for us to remain competitive with the better teams.
To now lose one of our most promising midfielders for nothing more than a potential Smedts MKII is going to seriously bring us back to the pack for a long time to come.

Make no mistake, if Bundy stays healthy, he has the potential to become a multiple AA champion of the competition.

Bundy has dropped this on our list managers 3 days into trade period...he needs to ensure he doesn't screw us over twice by getting us some decent compensation. Surely he realises this. Or maybe I've over-estimated him as a person.

Some room imo, but as not as much as Brisbane but they are a much better side (which is why we should try and talk him into GC because if he refuses we know the Brisbane choice is purely a cash grab rather for personal reasons) so they would probably need to either trade a player to us as pat of the deal to relieve their cap, or we agree to pay a small part of his contract.

But even the last bit would be worth it as they have picks 8, 15 and an end of first round compo in next year's draft. Much more to work with than Brisbane.
