That is very sad if that is the case, since he is a local boy and is much loved by all supporters.
I think SJ that its one of those things - if you were CONSTANTLY stopped every time you went to the shops, to a bar, to dinner. Even by well intentioned people. Its just suffocating. Unless you've had that experience for a sustained period of time - you dont get what its really like. Its not fun. The reality is a lot of people can handle it and some even relish it. But to others its horrendous and never ending.

I completely get that. But then maybe elite sport is not for him.

Have had a bit of time to think about this.

This is probably an unpopular opinion, but I think we may be getting ahead of ourselves on Bundy's value. The details re: Bundy are:
  • Quality inside midfielder, who is also creative and can kick goals
  • Not great defensively, does not rack up big possession totals, but uses well when he gets it
  • Valuable age bracket (5 years in system, nearing prime)
  • Not durable, with significant red flags re: future. History of concussions, 2 x back surgery
  • Small and slight of build
  • Other thank being a seemingly well-liked squad member, no other distinguishing features to speak of (ie. not outwardly identified as having leadership potential, not a team spokesman who gets wheeled out to the media, etc)
Looking at this in isolation, if I was another club, I would be very nervous about paying a high price to get him. He is possibly one concussion, or potentially one more back spasm, away from not being a footballer any more.

Before any of this happened, I was already concerned that we were unlikely to see the best of him, or that he would have a long career due to his durability red flags.

Thanks for the other perspective. Can I ask though why does it have to be Brisbane? Why not Sydney, hell why not the Bulldogs or North if he wants to avoid attention. If he still loves the club why not help us out a little bit and nominate a few options. I dont mind helping a troubled young man find his way but it cant be a one way street.
Sydney arent allowed to trade. western Sydney is a shithole. The warm climate will help his back - Perth is footy mad. Melbourne is footy mad - that leaves QLD. And Brisbane have a coach that he's been able to talk to and discuss how he fits etc. Suns are an unknown without a coach.

Or why not do what some of the older guys do and live in Melbourne? I see AFL players around here in Brunswick all the time and no one ever bothers them (aside from a longer glance). You do not have to live in the fish bowl, especially when your next contract would see you earn a fair bit more to be able to relocate.

Anyways. His call. Good luck to him.

Can respect he doesn't like the limelight, but why is it Brisbane only?

Surely there are other clubs like GWS, GC that are similar.

He should be fine to go to any of them if it is just a 'quieter' town he wants.
The thing here is that what catsinamerica has stated, he has issues yadda yadda. Yes he does, but he only wants to go to a club
with the most amount of cap space it seems.

Sorry, but you cannot have it both ways. If you have issues, of a personal nature, get the best for yourself and your team. To only
want to go to Brisbane is a total bitch slap to Geelong. I'm ashamed that we have a player who has done this as it does not fit the
culture of the club.

His father and cousin (Lemmens who plays for GC) both live in QLD and he'd go unnoticed in public in QLD. Also, GC have said the most they'll offer is p29 so, really, he is doing the best thing for himself and the club.

This is a strong draft, if we can get Brisbane's p21 then we could land a Liam Duggan/Kyle Langford type. It's not all doom and gloom.

Hopefully we can land at least 2-3 of: Laverde/Duggan/Ahern/Marchbank

I'm almost certain he wouldn't be "harassed" in Perth. Not unless he grows suddenly to 200cm and gets long dreads.
he can live in my caravan in the bottom paddock, no one to harrass him there, and i will drive him up for training and games...as long as he pays for fuel its a full tank each way...

that is assuming the cats get pick 11....if not, no caravan for you!

Are you serious? So a gun player from your midfield just ups and legs it for his own reasons, albeit from his own poor choices, yet we
have to take a player who is only a 5% chance of making his grade? It is far too simplistic to say oh well, we'll get a pick in the 20s,
we get something from it.

Players of 150-200 games just don't grow on trees. Bundy has absolutely dropped the club in it. Absolutely no moral fibre whatsoever.
What is worse is that he is a premiership player, who will most likely come back to the club at some stage. I hope it will not be in the next
5-10 years as I don't think he will like the experience.

He can live where he wants, he doesn't need to live in "Western Sydney", just like Geelong players can live in Melbourne, so that's a pretty shit reason for not going there.

the other thing - We all sit here carping on about loyalty. Clubs show none. Look at Varcoe. Moved to melbourne as a 17 year old. Has served Geelong without complaint and done everything he is capable of to help win premierships. Has overcome and fought multiple injuries. Now that the club want to clear the decks to create salary cap space for a launch at Danger in 12 months time (yep that is what is happening) and trade someone out - even though Trav wants to stay - theyre doing everything they can to talk him into breaking his contract. Dont for a minute think that if Menzel's injuries had happened to Burbury he would have been on the list as long. The only reason they've shown so much "loyalty" to Dan is because he is insanely talented. Loyalty to players ONLY comes if the club think you can help them win a flag. Thats it. So why shouldnt players look after themselves first and foremost? Dont ask for loyaty if you wont give it in return. And for the flogs bitching about Bundy "choosing only Brisbane" He has said Brisbane is his preference - its not an ultimatum. And at the end of the day - if he thinks thats gonna be the best thing for him, why not go for it. The inability from supporters to think about players as human beings as opposed to commodities is actually really sad.

Good post. Ultimately, they're grown men. Not kids. If they want the very, very good money that comes from playing footy, there are some things you have to put up with. Put bluntly, tough.

I think we're seeing the myth of the loyal footballer get slowly eroded now too. It's becoming clear that they look after themselves way more than they do the good of the club (and you can't blame them either). People should stop pining for some romantic notion of loyalty because it doesn't exist.

That is true Partridge.

I'll put it this way, in my neck of the woods, if you stuff up due to your own moral or ethical misfortune, you bear the full brunt of what is
coming to you. Only you take responsibility to resolve those issues, as in my previous life, it could mean life or death. Just the total lack of
ethics here is appalling.

The prima donna behaviour....just does my head in. I stuffed up, so I'll leave and do it at the 11th hour so my club is basically bent over the barrel.
