Can anyone see a correction coming during the next collective bargaining talks, where is the players want to keep breaking contracts the clubs will gain the right to delist players without having to honour the remaining period of their contracts?

Players can't have it both way, they want the best parts of the NFL system time for some of the parts that don't favour them as much to be brought in?

That is true Partridge.

I'll put it this way, in my neck of the woods, if you stuff up due to your own moral or ethical misfortune, you bear the full brunt of what is
coming to you. Only you take responsibility to resolve those issues, as in my previous life, it could mean life or death. Just the total lack of
ethics here is appalling.

The prima donna behaviour....just does my head in. I stuffed up, so I'll leave and do it at the 11th hour so my club is basically bent over the barrel.
jfc there's some bullshit in this thread
he is an employee of the club, who is out of contract
he has told the club he is leaving
which is very sad for us, as supporters

but if someone leaving their job and moving interstate indicates to you a "total lack of ethics" you need to look at your ethical framework tbfh
it's not his fault the afl trading system works the way it does

he owes nothing more to the club, than it does to him - and if geelong fc thought a player had no future value to the club, due to injury or long-term form issues, they would be delisted at the end of their contract without a moment's hesitation

the vitriol directed at a kid by some on here, based on wildly varying unsubstantiated rumours
is pretty f*cking gross imo

you have no idea. its actually laughable. There is a reason that depression is rife amongst young footballers. I'd bet london to a brick you'd never get through a preaseason.
well considering the pool is young men who have had smoke blown up their arses from the age of 7, been singled out, been told they're better than everyone else and then put in a high risk high reward environment with other young alpha's who also have been told they're unique special snowflakes Im not surprised mental illness occurs at higher rates....

And so he should. It appears as though they had an understanding, yet he has dropped them in it at the last minute, where
they had no contingency whatsoever. That's an a$$hole act in my opinion.
The problem is, when big sums of money are involved, human beings have a tendency to act like........well, human beings.

It seems the "best case scenario" philosophy adopted by our medical staff seems to apply to contracts with players as well.

he can live in my caravan in the bottom paddock, no one to harrass him there, and i will drive him up for training and games...as long as he pays for fuel its a full tank each way...

that is assuming the cats get pick 11....if not, no caravan for you!
I'll fight you for him, rooie! I've got a spare room or two and will put him on the train every day for training. ;)

As I'm not a professional athlete I'd be pretty surprised myself. Relevance to discussion? Zero. You also have no idea what my or any other posters' athletic attributes are - there might some handy types out there.

I'd also guarantee none of these prima donnas would last 2 minutes doing the real jobs plenty of us have either.
I agree. No one forces any of these players to do a pre-season or to play football. They choose by participating in the draft. They are selling their skills for incredible amounts of money. They have certain environmental conditions based on their career choice. A pre-season is one of them, increased scrutiny is another. Their rewards are adulation and financial gains that 99% of the population will never have.

So what if a player feels depressed at his pre-season? People in general society feel depression after working 10 hr days and staring at a pay cheque that just covers their rent and groceries.

Let's remove the context out of the situation- as it is completely and irrelevantly subjective.

Please dont ask for a "source" as i wont give one. All I'll say is Im related to one of the other Aboriginal boys at the club.

But ive read some of the absolute horseshit on here for 2 days and wasnt gonna post, but i am gonna just clarify a few things.
Bundy isnt "running away" He genuinely finds Geelong suffocating. He isnt able to go to the shops without being hassled. Now I know a lot of players take it in their stride, but for some personality types its a huge issue, and he is one that does. It's that reason he wont go to the Eagles.

He also does have some personal issues going on. More than one. And Geelong and any prospective club know what those are. The reality is that those issues, added with his back, mean that right or wrong, his trade value is diminished. In a similar way to Mitch Clark - if Clark was fit and didnt have depression issues - he'd command a 1st round pick. That isnt the case. In the same way, Allen has some baggage at the moment - and thats gonna cost us in terms of a trade.

Finally. For all the people coming on and hanging shit on him, bagging and judging him. Not one of you know him, or his situation or his life. So instea of standing on your soapbox and shouting with your holier than thou attitudes, remember, he's a 23 year old young fella trying to find his way in the world. This is his life. To you its a speedhump to the club you dearly love, but at the end of the day it's JUST football. Its not your total whole encompassing life. So take a breath, get some perspective and let it play out. The sun will come up tomorrow, and the Cats will still be contenders. Sadly one of our favourite players wont be a part of it, but we'll still have a full list of Cats players to cheer for who will go really close again next year. And hopefully Bundy will be able to get his life together and make a fresh start.
Yes Bundy is going to get mobbed in stores going to the eagles? Live outside of perth then! Seriously he is getting a tad ahead of himself if he thinks that. He can still play for Geelong, go live in Melbourne and he would get barely any attention, he is hardly a massive name in the AFL at the moment. He is going to always get some sort of attention been an AFL footballer, that is what comes with the territory... Players get paid handsomely to compensate. Why stuff the club around and blind side them, if these are his reasons he should have let the club know alot earlier, not commit (as reported by Emma Quayle), then drop a bomb at the start of trade period. Shows a selfish attitude, immaturity and a complete disregard for the club who gave him a chance as a podgey boy from Lara, developed him and turned him into a gun premiership player! Everyone has issues, but it's how you go about resolving those issues taking into account all that are involved shows what you are as a person!

And there you go.
Face it this club is not ruthless enough when it comes to trading and dealing with other clubs.
As was explained to you yesterday, the only way the pick for him would have mattered was if it was better than 50... which was our last pick before our F/S selection.... Do you seriously think we would have gained a sub 50 pick for a cooked ruckman??. I don't. So who gives a flying **** whether we accepted 90 or bargained our way to 65.... it still wouldn't have been utilised.

as someone who has employed young people, trained them up, supported them through ilness and seen them leave for a bigger pay cheque elsewhere, he sure as hell still owes the club a hell of a lot.

we took a punt of a fat kid with skills, helped turn him into a money making machine and will be losing out on our investment big time after paying him a big wage all year for very little return due to injury.

to suggest he doesn't owe the club is laughable.

he isn't just an employee, he is an asset we have heavily invested in, all staff are in a professional environment. It's why many contracts these days demand repayment of training costs if you leave within 12 months etc. because businesses are sick of investing big bucks in a person, essentially increasing their ability to earn, only to have them piss off at the first opportunity for a big payday.

No, he sounded shattered that "he is in a horrible place right now."
1 in 5 young Australians between 15-25 are dealing with a mental illness at any point. It is an epidemic.

Still, running away won't necessarily help Christensen's issues. He needs to work out what is at the core of his unhappiness and seek to address it. It certainly doesn't sound like it's Geelong Football Club causing the angst.

One of the reasons why this one really hurts is that l thought Bundy was one of the guys playing for the jumper. Was well-rewarded for that etc but l thought there was a deep bond between him and the club. Loved him for that.

Just naive and old-fashioned l guess. Shame, the jumper ain't the same anymore.

3 coaches taken down by player power in the last fortnight.

Yeah well Balme did say that he thought they were best placed to help him through it. And that he'd told him that a number of times.
"But if we have to get him to Brisbane it's what will happen, we'll just have to find out what they can do for us."

Depressing is rife among young people regardless if they are a footballer or not.
I agree- and it's often worse for those who've had long term injuries.
Depression is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain- some people have it, some people don't. Not everyone who's had a serious injury will have depression but sometimes an injury can tip a person who's been struggling on the edge, over.

I know a few people who've been successfully treated with medication and others who've spent years trying to find the right formula but who've failed.

We were all so keen to accept Mitch Clark when he said he needed to get out of Melbourne. Now the shoe's on the other foot- why is it so hard to accept it from one of our players? Fair enough, the timing sucks but, until AC comes out and tells us why he left it until the last minute, we won't know the reason why he didn't put his hand up earlier.

I just hope a change of scenery will help this young man because, if it doesn't, he might be lost to football altogether- and that would be a huge waste of talent.

i don't see any reason whatsoever that the club shouldn't be speaking with gws about a trade. sydney's trade restrictions have come in at a bad time, but gws and the SA teams, if not WA, should still be on the cards imo

If I answer this il be told I 'keep going on about it', but what the hell. Firstly, we payed pick 20 something for a cooked ruckman ourselves. Richmond payed pick 20 something for spud Hampson. We got pick 91 for someone who was so 'cooked' that he was picked on GF day ahead of the in form Blake, dominated the ruck and hitouts. We could have demanded a player in the trade. Being good at trading means you actually get something just as good in return. All I suggested was I don't think Geelong are very good at this compared to other clubs. You and everyone else can think of it as a good trade but I don't and I'm entitled to my opinion.

Hang on a little. Played a solid game, but he didn't dominate. That sprang from Robert Walls, and you could hear the legend growing during the telecast.

During the call, Walls actually says "King has almost been the most effective ruckman on the ground".

Two days later in the paper, it had become "King was the most effective ruckman on the ground".

Say it again, repeating something many times doesn't make it more true. We've all got the DVD to watch. He played a solid game, was very good in the third quarter. But he didn't dominate.

i agree TC, the Mitch Clark thing well, i don't actually want him so i can ignore that bit :)
actually, i think with mitch due to him hardly playing over the last 3 years his value is greatly decreased, but he will still effectively be a pick around the 30's.

chriso is younger, fitter, played alot more ball recently, so is worth more. i think if not a pick in the teens it should be 2 picks, one in the 20's and one in the 30's at worst.

if he is suffering from mental illness, and the GFC isn't the cause, then leaving a strong support network that is already in place is not a wise move. if the GFC was the cause, then getting out is the best thing.

yes, player welfare is important, and if this is a health issue lets help him out, but he still owes us the best compensation in return, and it isn't ok to specify one specific destination as it puts us over a barrel.

Agree with the bolded but understand the reasons CMIA put forward regarding anonymity in a non-football state, coupled with the coach Bundy's spoken to.

You know what Perth's like- though it'd take a couple of years for most supporters to recognise him. (I imagine Lyin would be a huge turn off!) SA would be similar to Perth.

Maybe GWS would another possibility, though he doesn't have family there, which is a bummer.

Fine. If you believe we're poor traders. Ok. King is a rubbish example though. he was done, so much so, that we bundled Charlie Gardiner as steak knives to get that pick 90. Who was this pick 20 cooked ruckmen we got??.

So what if Richmond overpaid for Hampson it doesn't mean that it should be the base from which to measure value. Hampson was also substantially younger than King. I've said before King was my favourite player but he was over the hill. He played well in the GF, didn't dominate though, he got less hitouts and disposals than Ottens. He also only played 6 games in 2007. Again it is only a relevant example if you seriously believe we would have got a sub 50 pick or an afl standard player (as in not bog average depth player). I'm doubtful in both scenarios.

We may not be as ruthless as other clubs in trading, but as I showed to you, over the last 7 years we haven't really been bent over, the overwhelming majority of our trades have been fair. If you want to strive to 'winning' trades. Fine, but claiming (as some have) that in recent history we've been bent over, lacks substance, on the whole that is not the case.

Interesting that he thinks Varcoe wants to go to Collingwood and that the club are not shopping him.
If he wants to stay they will keep him.
Prepare to be abused by Varcoe troll, meto, just like I was when I said the exact same thing the other day.

Ethical framework.....are you kidding me. So trade period opens, in which the club and he had it seems a handshake deal that 'in principle' the
terms of a new contract were settled. Then, two days into the trade window, bang. No consultation or negotiation based upon this in principle
agreement.

Not his fault???? FFS get a grip. This is his workings, not the AFL. He is not an unrestricted free agent. So the system is not built around him
and his poor decisions.

What pains me the most is this tree-hugging crap for every lame excuse we give to people who make a lot of money playing a sport.
There is no accountability for his actions, just the club as a whole taking it wholeheartedly in the you know what.

I like how you state he owes nothing to the club, raising the long term injury issues. Tell me when we've delisted someone due to long term
injuries, where the player's behaviour was above standard and was a club champion? Menzel, Snell, Domsy, are just a few over the years to which
the club has held onto and supported throughout their injuries. Catsinamerica on here stated well we are only giving this long term support to talented players, ie. without talent, you would be delisted. I beg to differ, Domsy wasn't that great as a forward and hadn't really been switched back yet, still we kept him on the list to better support him.

Yet you know better?

This decision by Bundy speaks highly of his behavioural problems, all linked to his virtues and ethics. This is a fair assessment of this decision,
but, is not an excuse by me to attack him, just the tree-huggers who believe this is not his fault. It is most definitely his fault and the club has
to now deal with it.
