I don't think we can land Kelly if he turned down the Norf offer. What was the rumoured offer? Over a million a year for 5+ years? I don't see how we could match that. We have a lot of players due for a pay rise soon. Bont alone will be asking for over a million a year and he should get it. I'm sure someone is going to reply with: "but hes best mates with the bont!"
I've never heard of someone taking a signicant pay cut to play with a mate. I've given it a lot of thought because it would be amazing but I can't imagine a world where it actually happens.

The club was rapt that we got Naughton and especially Richards. Naughton literally perfect for Luke’s coaching. Will be a beast in the future.

With him, Young, Wood and Cordy, our defensive 6 is pretty much our strongest area. Well just need to make sure we have another kicker with Richards back there to receive the handball from them :tearsofjoy:

I said 4 years ago how strong our team was going to be.

I think this squad is even better. It just needs another 2 years to mature. But f*ck me this is going to be a beast club in 3 years.

Other kickers - JJ, Williams, Crozier. Think we’re set for half backs. Need to beef up our midfield with some speed and maybe a gun small forward too.

By god we need a couple badly though King. Speed, power, skill and goal kicking. Must land several this off season.
Several? One would do for now. People crap on about the difficulty in finding a quality kpf, I would suggest that the attributes that you name are much harder to come by. In fact, I put out the same call every draft day and for the most part it has always gone unanswered.

Toyds deal was heavily front ended. Bont will get his deal.
Other than that, we have a lot of young players, players that are retiring or close to it and players who are genuinely mediocre.

In these circumstances I would have thought we would have decent cap space in the immediate future.

Will Brodie is one I think we should be keeping tabs on.
I was reading up on Brodie on the Suns' board and it was mentioned that the reason he's not t in the seniors is because he lacks the flexibility to play in any position other than inside mid. That would also count against him at the Kennel too, you'd think.

Going to be interesting to see this year's delisting & trades if we want to land some better ball movers. I think we're going to have to cut loose a few players in order to make way and as such I can see the following almost certain to go

- BTC
- Dad Collins
- Jongy
- Redpath (too one dimensional IMO)

Uncertainties due to injury or requesting a trade

- Morris
- Picken
- Dickson (getting too many niggling injuries now)

There's no chance at this stage to delist Schache after 1 interrupted season, Corzier is probably going to get another year as well

You'd think Honeychurch would be odds on to join that first list too. He's in front of Jong to get cut surely.

Not against Redpath going but seems popular in group and with coach and also part of leadership group. Unless there’s a mutual agreement around injuries perhaps I’d be surprised if he doesn’t stay around.

Still would keep Collins too - he’s only 20 and considered a previous steal of the draft. What happened that he seems to be in a few crosshairs?

Redpath just signed a multiple year deal. He just can’t be delisted and why would he accept being cut voluntarily, unless he found another opportunity outside footy. Bear in mind Schache is our only other permanent forward on our list. So we are too thin in this department in any case.

And I don’t understand getting rid of Campbell, when we would just need to replace him with another depth ruck anyway.

It’s Honeychurch, Webb, and maybe Collins (although I would keep Collins) that should be delisted.

Roberts should be traded and one of Morris/Picken/Smith will most likely retire (possibly several).

Collins was the same draft as Schache, had a few injuries at the wrong time. Was showing a bit towards the end of last season in the VFL. Way to early to make a call, but i get the feeling the coaches, like Fletch, dont rate him.

Not sure BTC offers anything at this stage

English
Boyd
Roughead

Trengrove (backup)

If we're keeping Red because he's contracted then a tall is going to have to make way, I would think

For mine, at this stage (subject to contract issues):
Gone:
Campbell,
Roberts,
Lynch,
Mullenger-McHugh.

Possible retirements (depending on bodies):
Morris,
Picken.

In the firing line:
Honey,
Collins,
Webb,
Jong

But that said, a big part of it will be form and injuries as the year goes on. The two Smith's are also interesting cases. My decision is it is too early to tell at this point.

One interview with Bevo earlier this year indicated he's had a terrible run with injuries and it sounded like they'll keep him.

We're a terribly tall side overall though and if you look at our list Biggs and Porter are perhaps the only runners we currently have not either, playing, injured or listed as emergencies this weekend.

I suspect we'll be a little more harsh in list culling this year than in the past few years, especially when you consider we need spots for a Round 1 pick, probably 3 FS/ academy kids and Gowers deserves to be elevated to the main list for next year.
That's 5 spots before we consider later picks and if the rookie list goes I can't see Lynch & NMM being kept so we might even have to find 7 players.

Didn't win enough Rising Star nominations to satisfy the instant gratification set.

An alternative explanation is that in modern footy you should never draft a player who needs more than 12 months development. Let somebody else do that, even if it's a state league, and then swoop when they start to show a bit. You end up paying more but you have a better idea what you're getting by that stage.

I'm still a bit old school and would prefer to have the best of the long term prospects contracted from the outset. By the time you want to swoop somebody else might have swooped before you.

I still think Collins might end up being a player. I'd keep him over Roberts, NMM, Webb and a few others. Would be handy having a couple of stoppers in Collins and Cordy and a couple of intercept players in Naughton and Young. Maybe not all played in the same team but KPD depth is handy. Question marks over Adams at this point but if he gets his body right he is undoubtedly a first picked KPD. Wood is another but his form has declined a little and he'll be retired long before the likes of Cordy, Naughton, Young, Adams etc.

Is the Rookie list going to exist next year? Could always delist Collins and rookie him if it does? If it doesn't, we won't need to worry about upgrading Gowers (or, at least, we will have extra list spots he can take).
