I don't think we can land Kelly if he turned down the Norf offer. What was the rumoured offer? Over a million a year for 5+ years? I don't see how we could match that. We have a lot of players due for a pay rise soon. Bont alone will be asking for over a million a year and he should get it. I'm sure someone is going to reply with: "but hes best mates with the bont!"
I've never heard of someone taking a signicant pay cut to play with a mate. I've given it a lot of thought because it would be amazing but I can't imagine a world where it actually happens.
Good point. The idea that he'd come to us to play with one friend, when he presumably has a lot of friends at his current club is a bit ridiculous.

Add to that the fact that he just signed on at gws, and it all seems highly unlikely. If he was so desperate to be a bulldog, he would've just asked for a trade to us at the end of last year.

Going to be interesting to see this year's delisting & trades if we want to land some better ball movers. I think we're going to have to cut loose a few players in order to make way and as such I can see the following almost certain to go

- BTC
- Dad Collins
- Jongy
- Redpath (too one dimensional IMO)

Uncertainties due to injury or requesting a trade

- Morris
- Picken
- Dickson (getting too many niggling injuries now)

There's no chance at this stage to delist Schache after 1 interrupted season, Corzier is probably going to get another year as well
Pick the odd man out here

We surely wouldn't take less than a late first rounder for him. You don't ship off a KPD who is only 20 for peanuts.... but I think we should hold onto him.
No way we'd get a late first rounder for him. 2nd rounder at best, more likely a 3rd. Look at what we got for Hamling, who had shown a hell of a lot more, for an example.

Handling was older and was going interstate. Collins is worth way more.
Unless Collins gets regular games towards the back end of the year and performs decently, he's worth no more than a packet of chips.

Hamling was only 2 years older than Collins will be at the end of this year and had just come off an unexpectedly strong 8 weeks of football.

We didn't play hardball on Hamling because of his father's illness. Might have sought a better deal if not for that.

Heard today that Collins will most likely be at the Hawks next year
If true it supports the point I was making earlier - don't bother putting development time into kids who'll take a while. Let some other sucker do it (and take the risk that the player might never be any good).

Smart move by Hawthorn if they see enough in Collins. Let's not make it easy for them though. Too many good players reeled in by Hawthorn over the last decade, when they were at or just reaching their career best form.

It may not seem like market value but if they offer anything worse than what we used to get Collins (a mid-20s pick) we should tell them to shove it.

True, but even if we accepted Fremantle's first offer for Hamling it's still going to have been much higher than what anyone's offering for Collins first up. If we play hardball we may get similar for Collins to what we got letting Hamling go easily.

Sad to hear Collins will go. If we can get a late 2nd for him though that would be a win I’d say. We clearly don’t rate him that highly, only played one game. If nothing eventuates with hawks I hope we keep him.

I wouldn't be so certain based on one post on BF. Even if true now, a lot of water to go under the bridge.

Hawks rated him highly in the draft, just didn't get around to picking him, so no surprise at all if they are showing interest again
Hawthorn had two picks before us in that draft, pick 19- Ryan Burton and pick 22 Kieran Lovell maybe
they called out the wrong Kieran.

Unfortunately we may have to take some risks with our list management. Too many of our players are injured year on year which when combined with even a normal injury rate means we just don't have enough personnel week to week.

It is kiling us.

The risk is that we move on the next Shaun Higgins who was perpetually injured with us and then goes on to star at another club.

Sadly, its a risk we simply have to take.

We can mitigate the risk of a Higgins scenario by picking the least talented oft injured players to move on.

C Smith, Libba, Adams are the talents you'd want to retain but less talented guys like Redpath, Campbell, Jong, Roughead, Collins, etc simply have to be looked at.

Whats everybody's take on Andrew Gaff ?

For me he is a 25 yo almost 26yo outside mid who runs all day, is quick and good with ball in han. He would provide us with much needed experience and is a proven player.

I dont know what it is but I really want him, has won a b&f , all australian midfeilder and would easily finish top 5 in our B&F next year.

what would we have to give up to bring him in ?

I can remember watching that draft and being on here and having people upset that Collins had gone just before our pick, then realising that they had picked a different Kieran....
