Very tenuous hypotheticals, but I'd imagine in that scenario they straight out offer picks rather than compo just to preserve their pick 3.
I doubt the AFL with their 'magical formula' would give us band 1 compo when their GC darlings will get the same compo for losing their only marquee player in Lynch.

Free agency period runs a little separately to trade period, starts 5 Oct whereas trade period starts 8 October.
I'm guessing 17 and 26 wouldn't be far off 7 on the points value. Don't know the formula. If Wallis to GC happened then that wouldn't be a bad return. Like Wallis and hopefully signs on but that would be a handy draft position and open up other trading possibilities or bring in more young talent and points.

I'd imagine trading out 26 for two later picks that are worth more points wouldn't be too difficult in this draft.
As this is prefaced on Wallis leaving which sadly I think could happen even though I'd prefer to keep him.

Hindsight is a beautiful thing. While GWS traded up for Kelly they also have traded down to good effect as well.

At their respective new clubs, last week Ryan Griffen overtook the number of games played by the one guy picked ahead of Kelly in the Draft. Guys like Peter Wright and Jake Lever could've been drafted with the p6 we traded as well. Who knows what we could've done with the $1m in cap sunk every year...if we are tallking hindsight maybe kept Shaun Higgins, maybe afford Gaff this year?? One game in 2016 is the only thing stopping us being laughed at more than the Dees.

For the situation both clubs were in at the time I was in favour of both the Kelly and Griffen trades. Melbourne needed bodies and the Dogs needed to make a statement.

Funny how things work out.
That one game was pretty important though!

I really hope that GWS win the flag this year. I reckon Shiel/Kelly would be more open to a trade once they've reached the top of the mountain with their current club. Might be why Kelly only signed on for 2 more years too.
This has been exactly my thinking recently, as sacrilegious as it feels

We need to give credit to Bevo (or perhaps the assistant coaches?:eek::eek::eek::eek:) for finding a more productive position for Caleb where his tank and distribution skills can be used to advantage. I'm all for giving coaches a whack when they stuff up but so far it's looking like a masterstroke.

The test will come if oppo coaches send players to him, but even that could be a small win as it can let other players (eg JJ) off the leash.

Oh ... and credit to Caleb too. You done good today, kid. Now go have a shower.
Yes. Caleb seems to be playing that super smart back pocket a la Gavin Wanganeen. His smarts and attacking set ups are game breakers. Give him some space and even under pressure ... awesome counter attacks. Vision.
I think his game has suffered with whole team upheaval, instability and regeneration over the last couple of years. This guy is a powerful piece if used well. The Caleb, to Jj, / Ed + run to Scache / Green is top weaponary

But then wouldn’t we argue Dangerfield is on that amount and he triggered band 1? AFL really should release the formula required to trigger appropriate compo pick.

Dangerfield was a forced trade, they never went to compo.

I assume this was your troll Scrag?
Not trolling. I think a player would be more open to moving to a minnow club once they've already tasted a flag. I'm not a psychologist though. I also don't hate GWS like some on here. I hate North, Geelong and Melbourne; the rest of the comp I'm indifferent towards at worst.

At the end of each year, I like to create hypothetical lists of WB BF posters, and what I would hypothetically send them for Christmas. There's the Christmas card list, the 6-pack of a Shambles Brewery product list, the collected works of Feargal Sharkey list, etc.

Sorry Scrag, you've just migrated to the assorted kombucha and kale soup hamper list... :p

Lucky for me I'm actually one of those health food freaks and I make kale smoothies every day. Just make sure its organic kale and I'll be very grateful

Forget points. Pick 7 should be before the West FA bid. In that case it's an extra top 7 pick, which are gold.

Trading that player/picks for later picks for points is a terrible outcome.

AFL will 'bend' their own compensation formula to benefit GC and allow both teams to get compo.

Gold Coast need good mature players for some sort of onfield reuslts next season.

Is it possible that they get the FA comp for Lynch, and trade us that for both Dahl and Wallis?

Maybe later pick swaps and/or Jong involved as well as they previously had an interest in him.

Think about where else / how else, Gold Coast get their hands on pretty good mature players...

I agree rather 7 if that were available through compensation. If had to go to trade though what would you think is a possible outcome. All hypothetical of course.

As he is a FA so we wouldn't have to sell the farm to get him I'd have a look at Schoenmakers, we were interested last year. Yes I am aware that we will have an abundance of falls but I really rate what he could add to our line up. Can plug any hole up forward or down back.

I thought that's why we went after Trengove?

Keep Roberts as KPD depth considering he's already contracted.

To make matters worse, Roos is on record as saying they were taking Billings ahead of Kelly.

I completely believe you’re entitled to your opinion but I couldn’t be more diametrically opposed to this entire post
The civility, forthrightness and conviction of your response gives me reason to question my evaluation of Daniel. I'll move him back to the assessment pending file.

Have you ever considered missionary work?

It's not in our interests to do the trade if Band 1. Why take a worse deal?

IF it's band 2 comp worthy, then trade multiple late second / third rounders to give us lots of points.

GC might even trade pick 2 for 6 & Wallis.

Its a good trade, drop 4 spots for a senior player who provides leadership and drive. It's the sort of trade they should have done from Day 1. They can still get the King brothers in the pick 6 range.

So you'd trade Wallis for a four pick upgrade? Poor unappreciated bastard.
