We definitely screwed up negotiations. Ward would have signed much earlier in the year had we put a better offer to him - it wasn't much more than half of the ~$800k GWS eventually got for him. This is direct from the family and corroborated by a player manager.
Swings and roundabouts though - we picked up Ward at the pick 19 we got for trading McMahon to Richmond. Our compo for losing Ward was pick 6 (Macrae) who went on to kick the sealing goal against GWS in the prelim in 2016. A game Ward couldn't finish playing in after an errant Zaine Cordy knee knocked him right in the temple.
Ward is a gun and I'd have him back in a heartbeat but I really do believe Macrae has overtaken him (and most mids) this year.
Yep, I'd agree with this. it hurt at the time but we've come out of that trade very well.
Another big tick for Dalrymple

I think North will offer more for both. I don't think Kelly's coming to us, but I'd be all over Shiel if there was any chance he was gettable.
If GWS win the flag next season (or possibly this season) and we show clear signs of improvement that will hopefully catch the eye of FA's I would give us a good shot at Kelly for 2020, as long as our offer is at least competitive (>=80%) with teams like North or the Saints. He knows whats up at the dogs through a good friend of his.

Given that we are negotiating with Bont atm- it would interesting as to who we would offer more. Bont or Kelly?

I think given what he has done for our club Bont deserves more than any other player.

But how do we do that and outbid North?

Hopefully we do not need to compare it to what Tom Boyd is getting in worth because we need to pay $2M a year.

We should offer them both a truckload. Both worth it. And both the best of friends.

See what we can do at trade time. As others have mentioned, maybe we could trade an end of first for multiple 2nds or 3rds that gets us in a better points position for west and khamis.

Ideally we could land a nice small forward. Bolton is the one that springs to mind.
Brendon? Small enough for you? :p

Gaff was catching up with Andrew Brayshaw today who is at home in Victoria..
All baseless rumours anyway, but my guess (if true) is Lycett. Already been strongly linked to Power though who supposedly have him as their number 1 target.
Plus theres no credibility in that entire post considering Adelaide don't have anywhere near pick 26, so that trade hypothetical is impossible.
Would take the whole thing with a grain of salt

I can’t see it mate. So many chances to play Campbell and Bevo has just flat out refused. Add to that the rumours of us trying to push him out last year,
This bemuses me from the view that, the MC refuse to play him yet his contract was extended. Why??? We should have let him go at the end of 2017 rather than extending.

It’s pretty widely reported that Gaff is still shopping himself to 5-6 teams.
Would absolutely love to get him over, considering I don't like our chances of getting Kelly next year despite what some other posters have been saying.
Haven't seen any actual proof of our interest though, and nothing linking us to him. Would be surprised if he did come over. Then again, we rarely get much media attention in the first place, so even if there was a link, no one would be reporting on it
