I would be shocked if Bailey Dale is not in our 2018 best 22, kid is a jet.
Brad Hill played five games in his first year at Hawthorn at 180 cm and
70 kg and played to his strength which was his speed and endurance
Billy Hartung ditto.

There are quality ruckmen strewn through the state leagues all around
the country, Geelong even picked up an Irish guy Padraig Lucey 203 cm
98 kg who was on the recruit he will be 23 in July.
Dale does look good but hasn't played afl yet , so who knows where he will be in 2018

Agree, but he has kicked eight goals the last three weeks in the VFL warm
ups and first official game and it is time for the green vest THIS WEEK.
Bailey Dale is Football get him around the group and give him a taste
because playing in the twos is a F#####G waste. I know he is not ready
but neither are we.

I think Hawthorn had 5 players under 180cm playing against us at the weekend. Hopes for our mosquito fleet of the future.

Yes there must be some quality ruckmen about we can at least rookie list. I'm bemused why teams would waste a high pick on a ruckman when at least as many good ones (e.g. Hudson, Sandilands) come off the rookie list

I agree as well mate he deserves a crack , but you can never really rate a guy properly until he has played at the highest level , love the way he moves he is a good chance of becoming a good footballer

I'm so up and down with the Henderson idea. He really is a pretty good kpp utility which can be advantageous.

It means boyd would have to ruck which is a pity but that's a pretty good set up of forward targets.

Do you say no when for the first time in a while you can get a good kpp for the right price?

Other people we should give a call are Walker who's cheaper and can ruck but not well, vickery whos a flog but ok kpf ruck and Peter wright
As much as I can't stand him, Vickery is a really good fit for our list as the 2nd ruckman/forward. Wouldn't give up anything of value for him though.

Jack Osborn, Reilly O'Brien, Archie Smith, Cameron Wood, Mason Cox,
Corey Gault, Craig Moller, Padraig Lucey, Keegan Brooksby, Max King,
Braydon Preuss, Eric Wallace, Ivan Soldo, Jason Holmes, Sam Naismith,
and Sean McLaren.

Current list of rookie or project rucks in the AFL obviously the clubs
agree with your point.;)

Yeah, and you'd expect a few to come on in the coming years - most of them play third/fourth fiddle in the ruck orchestra until they mature and the current rucks at their clubs retire.

Minson is still only just 30, thought he was older as he seems to have been around forever. Let's hope he can go on for another year or two, especially as he hasn't had many serious injuries (apart from the time he tried to poison himself with that seaweed soy stuff)

It would be great to have a ruckman who can genuinely rest up forward and doesn't have the turning circle of an aircraft carrier (Campbell), hands that are glued on with concrete (Minson) or provide the contest of a 200cm ballerina (Cordy)

Have to agree he would be the best forward/2nd ruck on our list by some distance. Despite being a ****head, if we are serious about climbing up the ladder then we should consider him.

Oh and if the CEO is serious that he doesn't want us to be everyones 2nd favourite team anymore then Vickery would solve that issue on his lonesome.

Maybe, but that says a lot about how poor our ruck stocks are and not how great Vickery is. I was given free tickets to a Richmond game last year and sat at ground level to get a good view of Vickery, he is good at times but a massive spud at others, he would infuriate us before the first game was out.

Bev strikes me as a man that wouldnt put up with vickerys dumb shit
Maybe and I dislike him as much as anybody, but if we are serious about keeping or first rounder and trying to get some ready made players to fill some gaps that are attainable then he is probably one of those talented I can think of. Could be cheap as chips too so might be worth the risk.

Kicked 36 goals in his 3rd season and 23 from 12 games last year so he has goal scoring ability.

Hes ten times the player Cordy is and so if we want a cheaper option then he is worth considering. At least Vickery has goal scoring ability and some agro (often misplaced). But he would be easily best 22 and an upgrade on Redpath/Cordy/Campbell as that 2nd ruck.

I agree but I just wouldn't go there same as yarran , dw Bev knows what it takes and he will do it , I have never been so sure about a coach / person in a long time he strikes me as a family man who is quiet but get on his bad side and look out , he would go to war for his boys don't worry about that and I don't see anyone or anything getting in his way , let him and Dal find there man they will , huge backfire if they go after vickery ;)

No doubt Bev and Dal will make the right decision, I just hope that we can get someone even better in that CHF/2nd ruck position. It's hurting us at the moment.

I know a lot of people love the bounce and the tradition, but i hate it.
I hate seeing the ruckman suffer PCL injuries, i hate that good umpires
are forced out because they can't bounce the ball or their backs are
knackered. Smaller circle and throw the ball up at a constant height
no bounce pad (Shaun Rehn) and no recalled bounces. I am sure if it
happened the bounce would be relegated to fantastic footy flashback
episodes does anyone really notice they throw the ball up around the
ground now and have done for years.

As much of a dickhead Vikery is if he comes to us as a delisted player or on the extreme cheap i will take him. Can take a grab and kick a goal and isn't bad in the ruck. I wouldn't want to give up anything for him though.

I wouldn't be confident in answering one way or the other on many of these. I just haven't seen enough of him as the #1 ruck at AFL level and I fear we're not going to get a good gauge on his ability until he assumes that role.
He needs to be given a few games later in the year against varying types of ruckman to allow him to be correctly assessed - and for him to learn where he is at. He was against Hale on the weekend in the VFL, and while he did well in the centre bounce and ball up stakes, he was largely invisible otherwise....

He just needs to be on an endurance running program all off-season..... Nothing but running....

Being in QLD I don't get to see the VFL side as much :(

Can anyone put some light on how Darcy Fort (I think it is) is going? Isn't he the Footscray ruckman? Does he have the potential to rookie and get into the system as a long term ruck replacement?

He seems to be developing pretty well. Ruck work has always been fairly sound but it's improving. Quite mobile and athletic, and presents a little bit around the ground. Took a couple of superb contested marks the other day, including a genuine pack mark. Early signs are promising; will be interesting to follow him as the year goes on.

Me too , tou would think he will get a lot better as he matures. I don't mind he is a little aggressive !

Thanks Dannnnnnnnnn, I guess the question then is - do you (or any of the other VFL watchers) think he has the potential to make our AFL list?

His frame is worse than Cordys has no muscle on him at all is 21 , if he had size you would take him for sure but would we risk taking him considering it may take 2 -3 years to put on size and he is still no guarantee of making it ? Depends who else comes up during the year I guess
