We would need to trade for Carlisle and WHE if they were to come. Fair to say JC would take our 1st - no brainer IMO. Someone come up with a trade that would work for WHE.

What about Talia and a 3rd for WHE?

Edit: sorry Fronk.
If Grant plays every game and is going well, he might attract a contract worth a second rounder which combined with our second rounder could get us a mid first rounder from another team and get WHE over the line.

Talia is untradable in my view. Wallis and Talia IMO have joined the 6 amigos who are untouchable.

We just cannot get both this off season and my preference is Carlisle.

Not to mention GWS are still trying to cut their list numbers.

In terms of getting another GWS player we might be better looking at a fringe player.

Not to mention WHE would attract bigger offers than what we could give him if we landed another big name.
Talia isn't untradeable if JC walks through the door. And WHE will do more for our team than Talia. Of course these are hypotheticals

I'm his biggest fan but I can't see him ever attracting any interest.

I would like the Roughead, Carlisle, Talia set up with Roughead swinging into the Ruck in 2016. Still leaves us with 2 big defenders when roughy swings into the middle. Carlisle can also swing forward if our forward line is not playing well and we still have tall coverage.

I'm not for trading out a young player who has just established himself in the best 22. Particularly when we need KPP's.

If some of these names don't have great seasons (Hrovat, Hunter, Campbell, Stevens) etc then I'd be trying to package them up with an early second rounder. Easier said than done though I'm not sure those blokes have the currency to get WHE. Take a monumental effort.

I'm actually not for trading out Talia, but GWS need defenders still, and he might be the only player with currency that they would actually have a need for. It's just a thought.

Just a thought but if we got Carlisle couldn't Roughie stay a FB and Talia play the Morris role just an opinion.

I would love Carlisle at our club the only concern i have is having the money available for 2017-2018 to give Bonts, Stringer, Macrae and Libba decent contracts.
I don't think Talia has the speed or the aerobic capacity to play the Morris role.

It will be interesting to see who we send to Riewoldt in round 6 now. Roughie & Talia can't keep up. Wood too short. Hamling too puny. Roberts too green.

Just for arguments sake, I think we would find it easier to appease the Bombers with players than GWS. They were rumoured to be interested in Smith & JJ previously, and I could see guys like Wallace and Hrovat appealing.

I would not look forward to brokering those deals though, for a multitude of reasons.

Some news at hand.

Jake Carlisle will be leaving Essendon. No interest in staying at all.

We've tabled a significant long term deal. We're not the only club in there swinging though. Carlton, Collingwood and norf have already fired shots as well.

We had a big swing last off-season before the Boyd thing happened, and the Carlisle camp weren't confident we'd still have the cap space to go again this time around...........but we do.

Only minor catch is that he's adamant about playing chb. Still, if he's gettable, you just do it and work out the rest later.
Any info on why he wants out on Essendon Fronk?? Very interesting.

True, the upside of this is so huge, though.

Didn't they want Wood? But maybe that has changed since they got Shaw
you wouldn't just wait until next year for WHE?

If I said as a member of Bulldogs Bigfooty, you had to be injected with a substance that you weren't informed what it would do & what it could do
and if you didn't, you weren't probably getting any game time and then have a media circus criticizing the clubs every move
I am not sure if you would really like been around Bigfooty, even though you still might have people you like

I dunno :p

I don't think there's a conceivable way we can end up with both unless we give up something we don't want to lose. WHE will attract a top 10 pick on his own; the assets we're likely to have post-Carlisle trade (if it happens, of course) are either untouchable or not worth it. They have to cut their list down another two spots - I really doubt they'll look at a two-for-one type deal when they could very easily get a straight pick.

I wouldn't move Talia with what he's shown.

The whole trade versus draft argument is fascinating as
when you analyze the grand final teams of recent times
there is a strong element of draft be it either picks or
father sons.

Bris-Brown, Port-Tredrea, Geel-Hawkins f/s Coll-Cloke f/s
Haw- Franklin/Roughead. If you delve deeper there are
also pivotal trades during those periods. Who knows?

Carslile and Walker added to the team in one off season would be unreal.

Don't think Walker's the long term option, but he's definitely better than what we have.

I wouldn't move Talia except if it got us a crack at WHE. His upside is 100 times that of Talia.

I think people are over estimating Talia's value, he'd be seen as steak knives. Just not enough runs on the board. Same goes for players like Hrovat.

We would be dealing with Adrian Dodoro. He lost Ryder last year for P17 & 37, after Ryder threatened court action to get where he wants. Carlisle is younger and IMO better. It would take our 1st rd pick plus a player and/or our 2nd rd pick. Hrovat has played well against Essendon before, so they might be interested in him.

I don't see how we can get WHE as well as Carlisle, unless we somehow can bluff our way for him to fall to us in the PSD - seems unlikely. SOS at Carlton may have something to say with WHE as well.

GWS and Essendon are probably the two hardest clubs to deal with for us going on recent history.

Josh Walker would have to worth around a 2nd or 3rd rd pick (that they only got P21 or so for Christensen and paid that for Stanley is a benchmark I guess).

We have to improve our spine, I'm not against trading out a dwarf or two in order to get it done.

Our first rounder (which will be in the top 10 picks) + steak knives (if needed) would get the job done. Walker would be a late 20's - early 30's pick.

Agree on Walker's value. Carlisle is worth more than a top 10 pick. How much more is the question.
Wouldn't include a top 22 player as well. If JJ were to drop out of the side that would probably be what Essendon would be happy with as well.
Preferably its just the pick which should be around 6 - 8.

If we trade our first two picks at the draft, where do we get picks to select players from that year?

Would we need to still pick 3 players at the draft then?
