Yes I know? I'm not saying he is old at all, just that he will be 24 next year and is a "mature age player", it's not a bad thing. Carlton are under so much pressure now to get as many picks as they can and rebuild their list through the draft. Their president (I believe it was) even refused to rule out trading their Captain Marc Murphy if it meant getting draft picks back. You think they trade their #1 pick for Carlisle?

Carlton won't trade pick 1, just use the PSD to get him to walk to them for free. Put super huge money up and see who they can get that way.

Let's just keep drafting for another 3 or 4 years. Our core will be 23 or 24 years old. We we will have some up and coming kids and some trade bait. Why get off the draft train when Dalrymple is on fire?
We can do both, if you look at the Port Adelaide draft last year they traded
their first two for Ryder yet still got two academy rejects in Dougal Howard
at 56 and Logan Austin at 69 plus Jesse Palmer at 78 and Billy Frampton at
84. That is a 199 cm KPF, a 195 cm KPD, a 188 cm 3rdFWD who kicked
35 goals 32 behinds at tac level and a project athletic ruck at 200 cm.

Ports list is different to ours granted in terms of quality, but all of our live
picks were gone before they even fired a shot.

Trouble with the draft strategy is you get a bunch more guys that will hit their peak at different stages. If we can bring in guys that have been in the system 3-6 years, that will boost our premiership chances. I'm not saying trade every draft pick away, just some mature guys would be handy, like Crameri.

OK, not a FA - is he at least OOC next year? If so, the old 'nominated club' bizzo gives us some leverage.

I have no problem giving up high draft picks for proven quality players. Let us reunite Cram and Carlisle.

These guys would be worth multiple first round picks. Probably the 2 of the 4 best players from their draft year.
I agree with Bont and possibly Boyd, but not the other 2 just yet.

I will offer pick 30 for Hunter !!!
Sold. 30 is very high for him. Yet to make an impact in the 1s yet. Expect him to though

How does Stringer, Macrae and Boyd get us picks 5 - 15. I'd ask for at least a top 3 draft pick for each of them at the very worst. They have not lost all value since draft. Seriously underrated a fair bit of our list. Have to keep in mind the nature of the draft, how all players in the draft are unproven.

My Assessment.

1. Grant - pick 45 - 55
2. Murphy - Nil (due to age)
3. Wallis - pick 15 - 25
4. Bontempelli - Pick 1 + more (I am serious in saying this but if he keeps going the way he is, we would demand Judd like compensation, which effectively included 2 top 5 picks + steak knives)
5. Boyd Nil (due to age)
6. Dahlhaus - Pick 12 - 16 (A team in finals contention without a good small forward etc Richmond would most certainly offer a first rounder.
7. Hunter - Pick 25 - 35
8. Crameri - Pick 25 - 30
9. Stringer - Pick 1 - 3 effectively I think hes most certainly in the top 5 players already of the 2012 draft and he is proven so a club would have to give up a top 3 pick or a top 10 pick + good player.
10. Wood - Pick 30 - 40
11. Macrae - Pick 1 - 2
12. Z.Cordy - Unknown
13. Hrovat - Pick 20 - 30
14. Smith - Pick 35 - 55 (due to injury history)
15. Campbell - Pick 30 - 40 (ruckman are a premium)
16. Mclean - Unknown
17. T.Boyd - Pick 1 (plus being one of the highest rated pick 1's in history from junior level I would demand steak knives as well)
18. Roberts - Pick 55 - 70
19. Webb - Unknown
20. Pearce - Nil
21. Liberatore - Pick 4 - 10
22. Honeychurch - Pick 25 - 35
23. Roughead - Pick 18 - 30
24. Biggs - Pick 45 - 55
25. Stevens - Pick 45 - 60
26. Hamiliton - Unknown
27. Minson - Pick 25 - 35
28. Prudden - Nil
29. Dickson - Pick 35 - 45
30. Hamling - Pick 55 - 70 (remember we got him as a DFA so his value isn't much until he plays regular senior footy
31. Dale - Unknown
32. Talia - From this season so far if he continues he could get us say 20 - 30
33. Darley - very late pick
35. Daniel - Unknown
36. Fuller - Ham Sandwich
38. Morris - Nil (due to age)
39. JJ - Pick 30 - 40
42. Picken - late pick
43. Redpath - Pick 55 - 70
46. Jong - Pick 25 - 35 (improvement has been remarkable)
49. Cordy - Brussel Sprout Sandwich

On potential yes, but on performance no. String/Boyd are not in the top 100 players in the comp. Macrae is probably around number 80-100.

I tried to be harsh and I expect debate. I think you've got Clay too high with 2 knees and Talia too high, but agree with the rest. We have to take our supporters glasses off.

Pick 5 for those who really need them, lower in a fire sale. But honestly we wouldn't let them go for less than 5 because they're too hard to replace.

Oh I did have my supporter glasses off :D really depends on what the team needs to be honest & I think if Clay has a pretty injury free career from this point on then they are a few teams with far too many softies in them that would be begging for a player like Clay
