If Carlisle is rubbed out he doesn't get paid so cap pressure is a non issue. His absence would be though hence why I would not pay a 1st rd pick.
Oh ok, I guess that makes sense. But even then I still don't think it's worth the risk. Having two blokes out for potentially two years is a worry. It just seems like an unnecessary risk especially when there is a decent option in Henderson.

Essendon surely wouldn't keep that first rounder they got if the player they traded gets a ban. AFL would find some compensation for clubs who had former essendon players.
Essendon have already been handed out punishment from the AFL, I can't imagine they would take away more first picks especially when half of Essendon's team is banned for two years.
And I really don't think other teams deserve any compensation for trading in Essendon players, everyone knows the risks. Maybe you are allowed to draft/rookie in a replacement, but that's as far as I can see it going.

Shouldn't be up to the Western bulldogs or PA to investigate whether the injection regime they ran contained banned substances. It's why I am hopeful that we don't risk our 1st rounder or better yet we should be able to trade next years first rounder + steak knives for him and then if he got a ban the terms of the trade could be renegotiated.

Carlisle is a nice to have not a must have
Essendon have no negotiating power on Carlisle
Some are way over rating Carlisle and under rating our 23rd - 26th players who are rotating in and out due to an overwhelming competition amongst very similar types - types essendon desperately needs - types who would get games at most other clubs

With Zane Cordy, talia, hamling, fletch and Morris we are hardly desperate for a tall - we can expect natural improvement to come from 4 of these 5 and whilst minson remains - we have roughy too

So essendon and dodo to can go and smoke mushrooms because they are the ones with players who want to leave
And when the player wants to leave you get what you can

CHB for sure. I want Roughead out of that back six and playing the role he did against GWS.

Love the idea of adding Yarran to the team but don't know if I'd love the cost.

If Carlisle doesn't eventuate, I Would do Henderson and Yarren for our first pick. Two birds one stone.

Yarren (murphy replacement) to gel with JJ and Webb. Henderson Chb/fb who can swing forward. Offers great flexibility.

Can I just take a moment, as I think we all should, to say that the LM team know infinitely more about the team than all of this board combined. When I wrote before Xmas that Dally said the club wanted Roughy as a ruck forward because that was his best spot and I suggested to him he was mad, I was probably incorrect.

In fact, I was

So when the club leaves a player out, or does something unusual, can we all debate it, but ultimately accept that if we don't agree with it, we're wrong :)

With regard to Carlisle it's safe to assume that the WADA crap will be over by the trade period. Besides, it won't cost us anything if he gets rubbed out because we won't be able to pay him while he's rubbed out.

Except a huge amount at the trade table that Essendon can use while we sit patiently waiting for him to come back, who knows what he's going to be like in 2 years, **** that.

I'm curious to know if any legal eagles on here have a view as to what Carlisle's status is if he doesn't re-sign with Essendon and is then rubbed out by WADA. Effectively in a state of contract limbo where he doesn't have an existing one (it's expired) but presumably can't enter in to a new one because consideration can't be given for 2 (presumed) years. Could he even train with a club because of (OH&S) considerations. Would he not be like the undead in such a situation? Neither contracted nor uncontracted.

Common theme in here. I don't think any of us expect Carlisle to be in Essendon colours next year - unless of course he's rubbed out for 2 years.

If we got Henderson would people want him at chf or chb? Much better defender than forward IMO.

Still think Yarran should be our man if Carlisle gets rubbed out.
The problem with bringing these 2 players in is that we would have to move 2 of our players off the list plus the 3 we need for draft picks.
Interested who you think these 5 should be assuming no others get traded out?

I'm not joining that club just yet. Until he shows me conclusive evidence that he can kick a set shot I'm not supporting the Ruck/Forward move.

Ok fair. His ruck work is much much better than I gave him credit for, and although I love him in defence, do you think we can utilise his skill set more offensively in the future?

Agree but we would need to cough up extra to get that.
Are we really needing a speedy half back, I would think that's one of our most stocked positions.
With our game style the one position I would be most happy to have real depth is speedy half backs whom can also play on the wing. Need them in abundance. I'd love to add one or two more. One to replace Murph (when he retires) the other to play as a sub and come on and turn games on their head in the last quarter.
