Brisbane would move heaven and earth to get him, but I can just see Dixon craving moving to a Melbourne club, where he can be in his bushy beard and short back and sides hipster element.
So why did Malceski move to the Gold Coast and not back home to Melbourne :D

FWIW Melbourne are the only team who went through this hipster element under Neeld ;)

What sort of player is he?
He is a KPP who played forward last year but has moved to play as a key defender this year and is playing very well, I believe he moved down to Melbourne this year so he couldn't train with the Murray boys so he trains with our VFL guys instead. 195cm, Very versatile and athletic.

If we did have to pay overs to get Carlisle. Which we know at Essendon this is the case to be true. He is only 23. basically same age as Libba and Wallis and Roughy.
First round pick is a bit to give up for him but he is an all Australian full back. So a first round pick, which could be about pick 10 or so might not be enough.
I think a player Essendon would want for him to add onto pick 10 might be Redpath.
I love big Red, but at the moment he isn't our best 22. Redpath would be a perfect compliment to Danniher for them. A big solid unit which would mean Danniher will have some muscle around him.
We get Carlisle as our key defender which frees up Roughy next season to be our 2nd ruckman who rests forward, and eventually become our number 1 ruckman. Maybe by 2017.

He hasn't been an All Australian but by the age of 21 he was taking the best forward and in the first half of 2013 he was smashing most of them. First rounder with a guarantee hes right to play round 1 2016 is fair enough.

In my mind its simple. Minson plays this season and next season (so he fufills his contract) Roughead plays 2nd ruck/forward. Tom Campbell puts pressure on Minson for the number 1 ruck role and in the 2016 off season we pinch Peter Wright off GC. That means in 2017 we have Roughead as the main ruck and Peter Wright number 2nd ruck/forward.

To pinch Peter Wright might be tough work, but then I guess we never thought we would steal Tom Boyd a year after he was drafted at number 1.
I do think the attributes of Peter Wrights game when he was drafted is what we are after. But would cost us a bit to get. Don't think he has played a game yet, however most teams give talls a few years before trading them. Look at us with Cordy. Still handing onto him.
an exception to the rule might be someone like Steph Martin. Melbourne traded him out pretty early. I know others like Mumford have left early but that's because Sydney offered a person on the rookie list like 400k, not a first rounder like Peter Wright.
So our spine in 2017 (some key players would have retired) if you get your wish might be something like this:
FB: Hamling, Carlise, Wood
HB: JJ, Talia, Webb
I have high hopes on webb
HF: Dickson, Stringer, Crameri
FF: Dahl, Boyd, Wright
I also have a good feeling Mclean might become a solid forward player for us

A Wright/Rough ruck/forward combo seriously excites me. Both are athletic and can be used as extra smalls around the ball, both good in the ruck, can both drop behind the ball or play as the second tall up front. That would be huge.

Yeah I agree would be a superb combination. My gut feel is that if we get Carlisle/another high profile gun then in order to get Wright we are probably going to lose someone of value. My feelings around whether Talia will stick around in 2016 continue to diminish as his asking price could be around 400 - 450k at the end of year.

I have said previously I really don't want to lose him but I am concerned.

It is a concern and I hope he signs with us soon. Playing in the VFL may not be helping us retain him, hope he is back soon.

Carlisle for a first this year, Peter Wright for a first and probably some thing else (first rounder won't be too high hopefully) next year. Then that's all the trading I'd be looking at. That's a quality spine set for the next 8 years. Use the rest of our picks at the draft, try and pick out some gems to compliment the rest of our smalls and maybe a project tall or two (Coughlan sounds like one to watch). We probably wouldn't have enough cap space to be a big player in FA but who knows depends on who becomes available.

Other than that I'd like one more genuine gun mid to add to the group but you'd have to draft them, hopefully trading future picks comes into play next year and we use the 2017 pick for Wright (helps balance out GCs list further) and then use the 2016 first rounder on best mid available.

Yeah agree with that. All good sides will lose a few but either way I'm confident we could cover for most. Talia is a bit of a worry, I think he'll sign though. He'd know his value is only rising at the moment but he's important to us so we will get it done.

I'd like us to plan for having some cap space in 2017ish to land a quality free agent. Brining guys in now is great, but they're all going to cost us trade assets. I'd love for us to be able to bring in a good talent in a year or two that doesn't cost us players and picks.

If only we only had to give up lets say a 2nd rounder and Grif for Boyd rather than our first rounder. We could of Drafted Peter Wright as he slipped down to pick 8.
I remember people thinking he could go pick 1 and might not fall down to our pick 6.
Would of been an amazing coupe to bring in T.Boyd and Peter Wright in the same draft.
Our draft picks look the goods this year but still, would of been handy

I'm going to see how Wright goes this weekend (he's selected, isn't he??) before I make up my mind whether he is someone we'd go after. Drafting is one thing, but giving something up to get him other than a draft pick, is something else.

Not so sure the price for Wright would be so high.

If we take Billy Longer as an example he was drafted at 8, didn't play a lot but showed some nice signs then got traded after 2 years for essentially pick 25.

I can see Wright being a similar prospect.

I honestly don't understand the hype, but we'll see how he goes this year
With Dal nailing picks in the draft I am reluctant for us to be trading any

Depends if he wants out and how much he shows.

Longer said he wanted out though, he wanted to get the hell out of there
Brisbane didn't have too much of a choice

Also Yarran is doing his best to decrease his trade value.

I really can't see clubs offering more than a second rounder.

I think he'd be a nice fit for us list-wise but can't see any way we go near him.

I was a massive fan of Wright last year. Watched a bit of him. Ugly mofo too! Definitely agree that a Wright and Rough combo in the ruck would be very dynamic (and tall) and both offer agility around the ground. Only issue I have is that neither are contested marking guns. Roughy is ok but Wright never had that skill as a junior, he was very much a lead up forward.

We need a lead up CHF (the position he played in his junior career), Roughy is a very good contested mark IMO. The contested marking should be left to Tom Boyd and Stringer moreso than a wright type.

I do think Yarran has a lot of skill but without being Bias, we proabably have the best half back team in the league with JJ, Murphy, Matty Boyd, Wood. Yarran could be a good replacement for Murphy or Boyd when they retire. But we got players such as Lukas Webb who are showing a bit too.
Proably got other needs but if we could get him low then worth a shot. Just remember that Melbourne traded pick 88 for Gartlett. Who would of thought he would go that low. so if Yarran does slip in trade value, he could be a good get, but just don't think he is a main need at the moment.
