In response to no one in particular: If Minson & Cordy go I'd rather we draft or rookie a ruck and go into next year with Campbell, Roughead and Boyd, than pick up Martin.
As a back up option if not going after Martin, then yes true, Gach Nyuon in the draft or something? Or take a fringe developing ruck from one of the many ruck farms like Freo, WCE, Sydney, GWS, Hawthorn etc
nar not a Free Agent, hes a restricted free agent next year
just out of contract this year
Wait wait wait wait wait wait wait
WTF?
Cordy is being paid enough to be a RFA? Sounds just as bad as Robbie Tarrant/Robbie Warnock being on big bucks imo
Is McGovern a wa boy? If not I'd be throwing the house at him.
Yes, his old man was an inaugural Freo player but only played 63 games for them before he retired, they'd be shattered (like the Reids/Hannebery/Rance etc for us)
And no chance they let him go
I used to REALLY like Trent McKenzie and wished he was a Bulldog for his first 3-4 years. Every time I watch him now, he disappoints me. He's actually a very average defender and is constantly out-bodied and lets his man out the back too easily etc. His kicking is obviously a nice feature, but the long down field barrels to nobody aren't exactly high %. He would just be a depth guy for us IMO.
Kolodjashnij is miles ahead of him and has effectively replaced him as that running, high half back accumulator/distributor, McKenzie's output this year has been nearly halved from previous years output
I'm still in shock that someone would offer Cordy over $400k a year over 3. I like Ayce. If he was 15cm shorter I think he'd be a handy player. Just doesn't suit his body. Extremely likeable guy from the very limited time I've seen him and chatted. If it is the case, I hope he takes the cash. He'd still be loved here and might get more chances at this other club.
Also helps with our list management decisions. If Ayce moves on, I think Minson would clearly move on which leaves us two ruckmen in Campbell and Roughead.
Who's a depth ruckman we could snare?
Plenty at Freo, WCE and GWS, maybe Sydney too (Nankervis/Naismith)
I see him being the best key defender in the league in the next 18 months King. Amazing athlete. Crazy aggressive. Super speed. Great timing. Killer left foot. He can take on the nimble guys like Buddy, cameron and Roughie, and the monsters like Hawkins as well IMO. BEAST.
He does seem to be in the Josh Gibson mould, I know you like Haynes too who is similar also.
They said one of our talls was being offered 400k by one of the northern teams and Cordy was bought up immediately after. I of course think it could be Grant to Brisbane since every seems to think that he's a tall except for Bulldog supporters and they were keen on him a couple of years ago.
I'd prefer to keep Grant of course and I wouldn't mind retaining Cordy if Minson leaves.
Losing Grant would be Higgins MK2 if he left, Brisbane might get the best out of him, but he'd probably play more forward than midfield there as they have Hanley and Mayes with similar attributes to him.
Just signed a new deal for next year. If it is him they can GGF.
Agreed, we need him for a few years as it's only him and Boyd as our KPF stocks
Probably still prefer Tommy to Mccarthy. He's Stewart Crameri with an extra 2 vertical inches.
I'll take those 2 extra inches every day of the week in finals
I just think if we roll with Campbell/Roughead for main rucks going forward, then boosting our KPP stocks with readymade types somehow is vital as Roughead would most likely not be used as a defender any more. Our KPP stocks outside of the rucks (Crameri/Morris/Stringer are mediums) have all played under 30-35 games and are in their 4th AFL seasons at best currently and are very inexperienced.
Could be the difference in challenging as early as next year, or say in 2018 when our core KPP stocks are nearing 100 games.
Personally, we have to challenge Hawthorn this year though somehow, things seem to be falling in our favour currently with other teams injuries/form issues, particularly if we roll WCE this week with their injuries and Sydney drops another game this week with everything on the line for GWS and GWS have 2 winnable percentage boosting games after that, so the incentive for them to win is very high this week.
