I fear the competition for spots will be intensified even more next year and some of our younger players already show more poise and better skill execution under pressure than him. He really should have destroyed the VFL this year and whilst he played well at times he just didn't show the class that many think he has...

I'll be more than happy if he stays and has a good run at a full pre-season because he's well loved in the group and has a good footy head..
I was asking fronk about Tippett. Good to hear your thoughts though!

He takes Daniel's role in a team making a serious push.
Totally disagree that Hrovat is better than Daniel. And Daniel will increase that gap next year IMO.

But in a full strength team (ie so in additition to who played last week add Libba, Stevens, JJ, Smith, McLean, etc), Daniel is fringe anyway.

But hey I hope you're right.

Hrovat may not be up to it (I especially dislike his tendency to not take the first option and constantly get his disposal smothered) but I could also easily see him being like Mitch Wallis in that it simply takes time to get his fitness levels up enough.

His game style has not flowed through from juniors to senior footy in much the same way that Mitch's didn't either and the poor decision making and rushed disposals are the result. He needs to get super rock hard fit and cover a lot more ground and then he will become a link up weapon with decent skills. If he can't get his fitness levels to the elite midfielder level then he will never have a place in our team.

OK. but. What tops Daniel from being that player, considering his decision making and skills are already ahead of Rats?

What's the Buddy rumours , or is best left unsaid like with Carlisle ?
Other than here not on social media.
There are about ten different rumours but the one Fronk's referring to is that Buddy was caught sleeping with Tippett's partner. Has been categorically denied by the Swans though.

IMO the Wallis comparison doesn't fly as:

A - wallis was a high finisher in the rising star, so his junior game did transfer to seniors. And wallis had established himself by yr 2 and is durable
B- Wallis has exceptional traits (ball winning and handball)
C - Hrovat hasn't established himself by yr3, seemingly has no exceptional traits, is seemingly regularly injured, and is very small

I was big on Wallis at the start of this year, when Libba went down especially, because he had exceptional traits. Hrovat? Don't see it. Not at all. Certainly don't see the wallis comparison.

All IMO of course.

I think the question is will Rat be better than , Honeychurch , Daniels , McLean long term ?
Honey , light years ahead.
Daniels , no
McLean , defineatly not.

It's obvious at least one won't be here in the next year or two.

If I know Melbourne, they would overpay for Hrovat. Character, Macca love child, and Paul Roos hates picks.

We could define ourselves by how we handle Talia and Hrovat this off season, and it could go one of many ways.

Also, anyone put up the possibility that we'd trade our first rounder this year and next year for a top 5 pick this year. Saints would think about it, but we'd be doing it to get one of Francis or Weitering and IMO Francis won't drop and obviously Weitering won't.

It's a roll of the dice no doubt, but you've gotta be in it to win it.

Francis is the best in this draft in my view, unbelievable talent
Well if he's got the Zgope stamp of approval I'm down. Whats so good about him/hows he play? Havent followed the draft at all this year yet.

Also if one of those teams do make a play for Hrovat I bet we'll get a hell of a lot more than a few here are saying, swap of 2nd round picks? Not a chance.

Pretty well denied too, seeing as he apparently doesnt have a partner.

Denham is full of shit.

I wouldn't be surprised if Melbourne and St Kilda were sniffing around. The Dees' list drops off in horrific fashion beyond the top seven or eight players, and St Kilda's kids aren't as numerous and talented as they would have us think.

That said, Rat is adamant he's staying, and he's got a contract. To my knowledge, it'd take a huge about face from club and player for him to be suiting up in a different jumper next year.

From where do we know that he's adamant he's staying? The man himself?

I'll bet you're wrong. Completely overrating Nathan IMO.

Correct. He understands why he's had to bide his time in the reserves this year, and knows his time will come. He desperately wants to be a part of this story.

Naturally, a big offer could change his mind. But I'd imagine clubs would be looking at him more as the bargain Dom Tyson type recruit, as opposed to a big poaching.

A fully fit Smith is best 22 all day every day IMO. Wrecking ball of aggression wrapped in muscle. Love him.
People have short memories , no Knee reco's , and he would be a great player for us.
Rat has a long way to go getting to Smiths output before his injuries.

Wait. Dom Tyson netted GWS pick 2. How is that a bargain?

He's got the perfect combination of knowing how to play football and being a physical beast.

He's one of the better contested/overhead marks i've seen in years, he uses the ball delightfully well, is an elite mover and has the scope to play midfield, without having torn it apart there yet. Such a pure footy player, i'd back him to the hilt
