People have short memories , no Knee reco's , and he would be a great player for us.
Rat has a long way to go getting to Smiths output before his injuries.
Its not short memories but tell me who misses out. You cant just say no recos and he'd be in our best. Facts are the kid has had 3 knee recos. Nothing would please me more for him to crack the best 22. But with a fully fit list sorry he doesn't make the best 22. Period

I'll bet you're wrong. Completely overrating Nathan IMO.
i think when it comes to this case we'd get significant overs because 1. he supposedly would need to be lured out and 2. he's contracted.

Meaning we get a cracking deal or we keep him. In my opinion the worst that could be is a pick in the twenties, but would that really be worth it for the club?

Wait. Dom Tyson netted GWS pick 2. How is that a bargain?
They were downgraded by seven picks (still inside the top ten), nabbed a former #3 pick, and grabbed a player they rated after having no interest in the likes of Kelly or Spillings.

Of course, with hindsight we know that Salem is a marshmallow (then again, so is Jelly), but it was a huge bargain from the Dees' perspective at the time.

I'd imagine they'd be looking at Hrovat from a similar angle - use their position of advantage at the draft to nab a player they rate without compromising their drafting strategy too much. Obviously, a first rounder wouldn't be involved.

No I agree , must have miss understood. I was really comparing exposed ability on those that are contending for spots. I doubt he will push for a spot next year , will be an outstanding effort if he can.

Time will tell BRWB but I think you're further off the mark than Doggies FTW.
Probably not happening. It's Denham after all. But if we fluke a 2nd rd I hope we jump for joy and take it.

As you say time will tell (as it has with Ayce and Likely Talia).

If he isn't gone this yr, Hrovat will be gone next yr IMO.

Unlike some im prepared to keep Talia and Hrovat around for another year and see what they can do. 7 weeks ago (pre-collingwood game) i thought Lachie Hunter was done, he could not have been less impressive with every part of his game. 7 weeks later and i cant imagine life without (my boy) lachie. Some confidence and extended game time could help hrovat.

Melbourne also gave up pick 20 in that deal.

I agree with the type of deal you're suggesting for Hrovat, guess we just have different definitions of a bargain.

Ill have to admit to dim memories of Clay in the seniors, but those memories are of a serviceable inside mid with average disposal. Granted his career has been almost destroyed by injury, but on exposed form he is beaten out our other inside mids quite comfortably. Im including Stevens and Macrae in that group, as their skillsets naturally lend themselves more to the inside than the outside.

If Smith is fully fit and recovers fully then out of the last game he pushes out Biggs, Jong, Daniel, Grant and Honey comfortably IMO. He also displaces the aging M Boyd. Of those missing only Libba, Stevens and JJ are ahead and the latter two are marginal IMO.

Academic if he can't attain full fitness.

Watch the Sydney game from 2012, absolutely killed it. At the end of 2012 he was looking about the most exciting of any of our youngsters

He doesn't take the place as small forward ( yes i know he kicked 4 on debut) but he is not a great kick lets be honest. Also no chance he plays of the half back line as his skills are not up to it. Therefore he pushes out Jong (who is very Clay like) and Grant who are already replaced by Libba, Stevens and JJ. How disrespectful to Moyd. Your kidding yourself

Clay is like Menzel, shown a lot eariler on and had a few things to work on and bam ACL
I trust Clay can come back and crack into the senior side, he has that fire in his belly to do it and reckon he will become a long term player when fit

He's actually quite good around goals. A bit like Liam Picken used to be. Kicks don't look great but he can get them through the sticks.

Menzels return to the game was one of the great stories to come out of what was otherwise a pretty dreadful year for the game. Personally my confidence that he and Clay will be able to have meaningful long term playing careers is as flimsy as the multiple grafts that they have had to endure. As much as we and indeed Clay would love it to be otherwise, I would suggest that History is on my side in this regard.

Please excuse my pessimism, but he's my 'Hail Mary' whenever it comes to list discussions. I'll be ecstatic if it comes off, but my hopes aren't high.

So supposedly Hrovats been dealing with an ankle injury and is having surgery on it, would explain a bit. Watch him step up next year. We wont be trading him unless we get a hell of a deal, 6 pick upgrade in the 2nd round? Yeah righto
Would you take a deal of our third for the Dee's second? Dunno if we could swing just the Dee's second.

Nah injuries mean nothing. Neither do preseasons. He's in his third year and 21 he should be an in his prime superstar right now.
