Plot twist: Talia is a triple agent. He is actually seeking a trade to them so that he can force his way into their lineup, then get towelled up by Toyd in next year's grand final, handing us an easy win. Then in a touching moment, he proclaims "expecto patronum" after the game and it turns out that his patronus is a bulldog, and he is using the happy thought of the bulldogs winning the grand final to cast it.

Perhaps it's better you explain how they are or why they could be better than Minson , Roughead and Campbell .
I can't see it , but happy to listen to your opinion.
Minson? The guy is on his way out & Beveridge was pretty much forced to select him for the match against Adelaide

Roughead would probably be his first choice because he can cover the ground the best out of the lot

Why I mentioned those players, yes they average about as many hit outs as our current rucks & about as many games per year
but they have a strength that only one of rucks have (Roughead) to be able to cover the ground

I certainly am not saying that they are stars, but I don't see us getting Carlisle or another good KPD & a top ruckman in the same year

So... starting rucks?

Adel: S. Jacobs
Carl: M. Kreuzer
Coll: B. Grundy, J. Witts
GCS: T. Nicholls
Haw: B. McEvoy, J. Ceglar
Melb: M. Gawn
NM: T. Goldstein
PA: M. Lobbe
STK: B. Longer
WCE: N. Naitanui, C. Sinclair, S. Lycett
Reduced the list to include only the players I'm interested in.
Underline = unlikely/impossible

So leaves Kreuzer (injuries a concern), Witts (I think his ceiling is high but in the short term he's not a heap better than our current stocks), Nicholls (I doubt the Suns let him go but he'd be near perfect for us in my opinion), Ceglar (doubt he'd go/be let go with Hale nearing the end) and Lobbe (doubt he'd be let go and not sure he's a game style fit).

Not a lot there. Unless we can pull a massive shock and lure a genuine top liner across, I'd be fairly happy to stick with our current stocks for another year or so and maybe recruit a younger ruckman through the draft.

none of them have a *?

I wonder if GCS would consider trading Nicholls if they see Wright as their future ruck and Minson goes over as stake knives to help out for a year or two? Probably wishful thinking though.

Haha, whoops - originally had Lobbe as a * but changed my mind. Good pickup.

It's a fair point and you could be right. The way I look at it, Wright is unlikely to be a #1 ruckman in future; Zac Smith looks on the way out; and with Gorringe you can take your pick of shit/dickhead/likely to leave. If he is available though I'd hope we're involved in the discussions - I'm a big fan and think he fits us better than almost any of the other options.

I'm happy to stick with Minson/Campbell for another year. Don't see any viable options in improving our ruck stocks this particular year.

We need to look at replacing Talia with a Key Defender.

So... starting rucks?

Adel: S. Jacobs
Bris: S. Martin, M. Leuenberger
Carl: M. Kreuzer, C. Wood
Coll: B. Grundy, J. Witts
Ess: T. Bellchambers, S. McKernan
Frem: A. Sandilands, Z. Clarke, J. Griffin
Geel: M. Blicavs, R. Stanley
GCS: T. Nicholls, Z. Smith
GWS: S. Mumford, T. Downie
Haw: B. McEvoy, J. Ceglar
Melb: M. Gawn, J. Spencer
NM: T. Goldstein
PA: M. Lobbe, P. Ryder
Rich: I. Maric
STK: B. Longer, T. Hickey
Syd: M. Pyke, K. Tippet
WCE: N. Naitanui, C. Sinclair, S. Lycett

That's pretty much everyone that I can think of that's played as first ruck.

Anyone that appeals and would be a realistic option?
Back to the BorisDawg list. Of this list and in terms of who would fit our structure and could be gettable for a non-first-rounder; I could only suggest Witts, Sinclair or Hickey and they're all contracted.

Unless Jmac has some sweet magic already sorted, I really don't see how we end up with "the perfect-ready-to-go ruck" the board is asking for.

I'd personally be gunning for Apeness, and rolling with Roughy/Campbell/Apeness for another season while we shore up our backline. Another years development, gun key back (Carlisle or Haynes) and we'll be fine with a mediocre ruck for another season.

All starting rucks. Luey was never really considered (thankfully).

For what its worth, Martin is the best of the lot by a bit and I have been in serious disbelief at some peoples reluctance to grab him. If you are dead serious about wanting to win a flag in the next couple years, you better hope he is the one we have landed - criminally underrated.

Just as curious as the rest of you to hear who it is
Without going into it too much detail Martins personal problems are more than just having a girlfriend in another state.
He suffers depression and I believe that is being taken into consideration by clubs trying to make sure they have proper support resources put around him.

Has Hampson ever had a good run at the no 1 ruck pos?

Hampson is one of those guys who is a bit of a punchline joke, but rucks take time and he strikes me as the kind of player who only fulfills his potential at 27 or 28. If he gets delisted he might be worth a rookie pick but I believe he's contracted for another year. Doubt he would cost much on the trade table...

You could probably add Hickey from the saints to the list (depending on what starting ruckman means- is it someone who is already playing first ruck, or just someone who is capable of it?).
Id love hickey. Reckon he had some really good games as a mobile ruckman.
But I think this would have come out by now.

If the rumours are fact that we have a number 1 ruck locked away then I can only guess its from a teams still playing finals.
hawks rucks are too old, Nicnat aint going anywhere and neither is goldy, that leaves freos ruck division.

So I can only guess it may be a mobile ruck like a zac clarke or something.

The other part to the ruck story is that we're supposedly not going to trade or first rounder. Surely that rules out a few of the big names who aren't free agents.

I like Witts, Chuck him in as first ruck and let him bloom, give him 2-3 years and i think he will be a very good ruck, but will take time, with 4 on the bench him and Campbell can rotate for a chop out.

Id give our second rounder for him, Collingwood would probably want more, so who knows

Surely with the 2 free agents and the general trade feeding frenzy, we are a better shot at a ruck this year then next year. Unless we've got someone lined up a year out.
