Mike Pykes name is being bandied around on SEN. Could it be him? Is he mobile enough for our setup?
Not sure why the ruck is the priority.
How many key defenders are on the list , if we assume Talia is gone ?
I count 2 plus a second year Cordy. Then a ruckman in Roughy that I am far from convinced can hold down a key defensive spot.
Surely we are out there looking for a defender first and foremost ?

I like Witts, Chuck him in as first ruck and let him bloom, give him 2-3 years and i think he will be a very good ruck, but will take time, with 4 on the bench him and Campbell can rotate for a chop out.

Id give our second rounder for him, Collingwood would probably want more, so who knows
We'd be lucky to get a third rounder back if we offered up our first rounder; and only if Collingwood needed a second first rounder for Treloar.

I hope so too. I want Carlisle. I think Rough can ruck if he stays fit. Can't see him being selected as a KPD or KPF though. Add Libba in that centre square and we'll improve our clearance work anyway.

I agree - I'd love more cover, although quite a few disagreed at the start of this year and probably will this time around too.
Disappointed we didn't chase Sam Frost from GWS last year, hopefully we've got our eye on someone this year (GCS looking in your direction)

our priorities have changed. Bevo said he'd back in the developing key backs in Roberts, Talia, Hamling and Cordy unless there was a change of heart. With Talia now on the move, that will be reassessed.

I think Witts value has been pumped up a bit on Bigfooty with every Collingwood supporter talking about how great he's going to be. I'm sure he'll end up a decent ruck wouldn't trade or first for him. He also isn't really that mobile which i thought was the problem with Minson and campbell. I'm happy going into next year with roughy as first choice and campbell back up and maybe a mature agreed rookie listed ruck.

Yeah i don't think he is worth a first. While he has shown potential, i dont think he is a sure thing by any means.

Nathan Freeman anybody?? Hamstring injuries but Easton Wood managed to overcome and is now AA?
He wants to go to Saints, which suggests he doesn't think he is good enough to get a game at the Pies. Our midfield is probably stronger than the Pies, so we are probably not an option for Freeman.

If we can land Carlisle and draft Coughlan, our KPD stocks aren't looking too bad. Wouldn't mind bringing in one more guy in the Hamling / Biggs type pickup that could give us a bit of cover in case of injuries.

Carlisle, Roberts, Hamling, Morris, Cordy, Coughlan and one more mystery guy would be enough depth imo.

What's the attraction to the Collingwood 'stars' they most likely turn out to be duds.

Given the Judas situation in the last 24 hours and where said player plays, we would be stupid, absolutely stupid, if we didn't go after Carlisle.

I don't know that we'd necessarily be "absolutely stupid":

- Poor character is blatantly obvious
- A potential WADA ban looming ominously
- The rumour that has spread through this board (if it's false, then obviously it's irrelevant. If not, he should not be pursued)
- Essendon are terrible to deal with at the trade table
- He apparently wants a fairly long contract (4-5 years) worth around 500k a year (correct me if this is wrong) - that seems excessive for a bloke whose bargaining power rests almost entirely on his form from the first half of 2013. The rest of his bargaining power is merely flashes of brilliance across two years, showing both his brilliant natural ability but also his inconsistency, lack of noteworthy versatility and poor attitude

It's worth looking at, but I'd only sign him on our terms, not on terms forced upon us by his management or Essendon. He's not worth overpaying for in my opinion
