Our trade period which looked like being quiet has gone from boring to embarrassing in one hour. I can see no upside to any trade we have done. Any spin anyone wants to put on it, will not change my opinion.
Effectively giving up pick 11 and Talia for pick 20 + 21. Ridiculous.
It isn't just the talia trade that annoyed me.
Simplistic. We were happy to delist Talia anyway so whatever draft pick we received for him was inconsequential.

Please tell us which player we should be taking at 11 when the pundits say that after the first three it is very even up to the middle of the second round? Is this player clearly better than the two we will get at 20 and 21.

The irony of the fact that our second round pick was talked about all this year to be part of a trade/upgrade/downgrade, it ended up being only one of two picks in the second round that didn't at one point change hands.

Talia was worth nothing and a certainty to be delisted given we made the trade to Sydney in the last 5 mins.
Pick 11 for 20+21 at this stage is at worst a sideways trade. It might pay off, it might not, but all trading of draft picks is a calculated risk.

The false outrage from a few on here is pretty sad.

How do you not see pick 11 for 20+21 as a win? The way this draft is looking, whoever we can take at 20 won't be that far behind 11, and we also get two shots at it.

We obviously identified players that we wanted. We tried to trade up to get them but couldn't make this happen. We figure that there's a strong chance that the next two players we want will be available at 20/21 but not by 30, so why hold on to 11?

The club know what they're doing.

I think we got screwed when you look at the pies, saints and demons. Just hope the current list can grow. Still missing a quality defender and a ruckman.
None of which have anywhere near the quality, nor quantity of our talent....

More choice at 11 than at 20 and 21. Narrow minded response.

We all trust Dal with his picks but glory be from a fans perspective it looks really bad. I would take pick 11 for 20 and 21 any day of the week in any draft. We need quality, not quantity. We miss out on the second best KPD.
Carlton and Melbourne who will most likely be future rivals have done really well to turn their list over and improve.

The Talia trade is shite and just helps him get to a club that wants him. Why do him a favour. If we were never going to get anything useful then send him to draft. In time Talia will be very good in Sydney and it hurt. Don't expect to pick up anyone better than Talia with our picks.

Wouldn't be surprised if whoever we wanted to take at 11 is still available at 20. Dal is apparently very interested in Ben McKay. Pretty good chance he'll still be there at our pick. We then get an extra pick straight after to play with.

Wtf happened. I went to lunch and we suddenly had a brain fade.
Why is 20 and 21 the equivalent of 11 and a packet of chips?
More peeved at dropping 11 then basically having to beg someone to take Talia.

I don't understand how anybody could have a strong opinion one way or the other on the downgrade unless they've followed the draft extremely closely. The numbers are entirely irrelevant, it's about the players we believe will be available there. We won't be able to judge the trade accurately for a few years yet so have a mild opinion and trust in the recruiters that have delivered us Bontempelli, Macrae, Stringer, Hunter, McLean, Webb, Dale...
Agree entirely Dannnnnnn. Have no idea about the draft. But the general concept of not having a top 20 pick, 2 years in a row worries me.

11 for 20 and 21??? i don't like it but surely, SURELY Dal thinks there isn't anything good at 11 and we're better off having 2 2nd rounders instead.

I honestly don't know how you wrote this post and did not see the irony in it.
Zeph's meltdown reminds me exactly of the two or three posters who had an absolute fit when we didn't take James Seller at draft time.

I love how some posters give no credit to a recruiting team that has picked the absolute eyes out of every draft since 2011 - we've probably taken the best player available at every pick since the start of the 2011 rookie draft (2011 was a horrible draft year if anyone wants to check).

I'd be more concerned if I didn't believe Toby McLean was a top 10 talent from last year's draft.

I'm very happy to have traded 11 for 21 and 22.

For us to have chosen to do this picks swap, we must think we can land two pretty good players at 21 and 22. We must also think that the odds are quite low of selecting a significantly better player with pick 11 than both of the players we will get with 21 and 22. We may also feel that players x (pick 21) and y (pick 22) will be better value for us than player z (pick 11).

So with picks 21, 22 and 30 we think we have an excellent chance of landing at least two very good players instead of using picks 11, 30 and 51 to try to achieve the same result.

I think a lot of people are making themselves feel better about Talia by saying he has no value.

He is a key defender who is competent at playing a lock down role but can't understand zone defence. This is still valuable at AFL level, which was evident as at least 3 clubs were looking at him.

We have been majorly screwed by the AFL on this one. Why am I not surprised.
A potentially good kpd (which we need) given away for zero. Prefer to have kept him, even playing VFL.
A potentially good pick 11 given away for a less potentially good pick 20 and even less potentially good pick 21.
