Totally this. People on here get their heart set on a player at a certain pick with very little evidence, due to said player satisfying a few basic criteria (i.e. KPD!, rated highly by journalist!). When that doesnt happen, they get upset, without realising that they know very little.

I am very guilty of it (was spewing when we didnt get Reece Mckenzie last year....)
Wasn't getting upset, was answering a question.

The left-footed key forward had some exciting moments for the Gippsland Power and Vic Country teams he represented this year, which was his first in the talent pathway. At 200cm, McKay will probably be asked to play as a part-time ruckman at stages in the AFL but he has the movement and athleticism to do that. McKay, whose twin Ben is also expected to be drafted, ran 10:58 minutes for the three-kilometre time trial at the com

WE pick up Harry at 20 and his brother Ben at 21 it was worked out months ago

Sorry but any 22yo KPD who beats Tex Walker has some sort of currency.
Sure he did. Right until the days leading up to the elimination final, then it disappeared quicker than a line of "white powder" up Jake Carlisle's nostril.

Clubs. Were. Waiting. For. His. Delisting. It still staggers me that nobody understands this.

Bit of talk in the draft thread already. Dalrymple's already been linked to Dan Rioli and Ben McKay prior to this trade though which does line up fairly well with the trade.

Getting Talia to Syd seems more of a relationship building exercise with Pickering and Syd. Good riddance to Talia whose trade value and playing ability has been massively overrated by a few here.
... or payback for Biggs being a virtual free hit.
Good to keep that relationship with the Swans tight - how many points do our 4th rounders from next year attract for academy picks? ;)

I reckon you boys want Hibberd with one of those picks.

It's who I'd want. Good luck.

Thanks for Talia. Sorry he's a dog but hope he comes on. Seems like he has a fair chunk of talent.

This Belichickian downgrading of picks can only work if you already have top end talent in place, which we do. Getting to drool over a borderline top 10 talent joining the club is one of the best parts of the process, that's why I think people are annoyed, even if this years top 10 isn't your daddy's.

Common thought has been a big talent drop off after p30ish. Seems smart to ensure our compulsory 3 draft picks are in this space.

Of course if we had picked up some rookies last year we could have upgraded one of them instead.

no doubt, we all know this. Its just a shit situation for us and continues the bad luck we have had over time. Maybe it was our fault for playing it like we did.

Swans don't have academy selections next year. Think we might simply draft deeper in a deep draft. Pretty sound IMO.

He will be a fantastic deal for you blokes with the way you can develop players. He's one I always hoped made it but was a scapegoat way too much, it's hard to be a young KPD in a young & struggling team like we were.

You got a steal there. Paying you back for Biggs I guess. Let's hope there's more trading like that between our clubs in the future.

Assuming we were only ever going to use three picks in this draft:
  • we have moved our first pick back 10 places from 11 to 21
  • but have also moved our second pick forward by 8 places from 30 to 22
  • and moved our third pick forward 21 places from 51 to 30.
So 11, 30 and 51 as opposed to 21, 22 and 30.

We obviously don't rate the players likely to be selected around 11 that much more highly than the players likely to be taken around 21.
Exactly my thinking old boy. Hard to see us taking Macpherson now surely. Increases chances of Grant being re-signed as well (or a mature DFA).

Not one to jump up and down about these things, but:

1. I don't like not having a first round pick 2 years in a row.
2. I don't like losing an AFL ready key defender (Talia) from a list already thin in that area and not replacing him with another one.
3. I don't think our list needs another four 18 year olds.

I wonder if we won't nominate Macpherson at all, and just use picks 21, 22 and 30 and then either re-sign Grant with our 5th spot or sign a mature delisted free agent.
Was going to write something similar but this sums it up for me
