To be fair, Macca's hardly going to come out and say, "Nah, he's ******* shit." :p

Going to be some very, very red faces if he does make it (my own included)...in fact, I think King Harold 's face may actually transform into a tomato!
Haha true but he didnt really have to say anything though and he really did give him every chance this year so it makes sense, bit of a long shot to make it but its true that he does just need to believe in himself a bit more.

He could definitely surprise a few this season!

For what it's worth, I'm in the middle of the two extremes on Tutt. Sitting on the fence but leaning towards the 'won't make it' side. I think he may to some degree be a bit like Wallis this year - he's being forced to play a way that doesn't come naturally to him and it's making him look second rate as he works on his weaknesses. On the other hand, however, I think some of his flaws are insurmountable.

He's absolutely a better player than he looked this year, but as for whether that's good enough to make it, I'm not yet sure.

If Tutt plays 100 games for us, I'll shout the entire BigFooty family a night on the gas. I hope it happens, but I'll stake my footy reputation on him not making it.

Please do VD.

1. I'm rooting for the guy and if he plays 100 games it means we didn't completely blow that 2009 draft.

2. Would be great to have a boozer with you lot anyways.

Tutt seems a confidence player for mine, similar to Mitchell Johnson with the cricket. He needs to believe he can make it at AFL, he needs to believe he can burn that chasing player off and kick it onto a leading forward's chest.

The problem isn't belief for mine, it's just panic. The pressure gets to him when he has the ball, even if it's only perceived pressure. For someone who isn't a great kick in the first place that's a nail in the coffin for me.

They kind of go hand in hand really, I'd much prefer to see him get holding the ball trying to take on a chasing opponent than panicking and kicking it straight to an opponent. He is really frustrating atm, he really does have the game to make it.

You raise a good point; as far as I see it it's either a lack of confidence in himself being able to take that step around the opponent, or just complete panic. I'm leaning towards the latter - but if it's the former, it's fixable.

One thing in his favour in this regard is his debut. I know it's clearly an outlier but all I'm saying is that he was playing with nothing to lose, with no restrictions whatsoever; that suggests, to me, that it could in fact be the confidence thing.

It would explain the pumping of the tyres by the coach and the extended run in the side he had. Regardless that debut can only get him so far and, like a few others, he really needs to show a lot this season.

He's fourth in line to be delisted for me. Greenwood, Howard, Redpath, Tutt. Then Williams, Pearce, Cordy and Jong are also in the 'need to show something' category. Definitely a defining year for our list.

Sit back with a couple of cold ones and rewind to his last 3-4 games this year. Plenty to like. Some good decision making, taking the game on, can kick ... what if he plays 200?

I have to admit I was pretty aroused with a couple of things he did. I am 100% a Tutt fan. I think he can make it. I can't wait to see what he produces next season.

If he plays 200 we're in all sorts of trouble!

Yep, he panics when he gets it, but there are even times when he just doesn't want it at all. Not just physically. I actually think its a mental thing where he just doesn't want the stress of having the footy and having to make a decision.

The delist list for mine is:

- gia (obviously)
- greenwood
- Tutt
- Jong
- redpath
- Austin
- Howard

Williams is the other one of course. Then I think one of Morris/Boyd/murph will pull the pin as well.

Cordy is contracted for 2015 isn't he? Can't see him being delisted. Traded maybe, but not delisted.

I've watched Tutt closely again on Fox in the past few months. I disagree that Tutt isn't a great kick. ATM I would say he a very good long kick and can break the lines (when not under pressure). The problem is he needs to absorb pressure and read the play better. He is quick but tends to drop easy marks, once his confidence is built up (by Macca Co) he can be a very import rebounding defending, wingman (or even half forward). He should get a game every day of the week if bloody Howard can...

In your view, what would each of the listed players above have to do to be retained after next season?

I think Tutts main problem is that he waits for the game to come to him rather than demanding to be a part of the action.

He can look great if the ball bounces his way, but is too happy to let others take the initiative.

It could just be a confidence thing, or it could be a character trait which would be harder to overcome.

I'm putting my faith in McCartney getting the best out of Tutt. I've just finished watching our win over West Coast at Etihad and Tutt was one who stood out.
Some of his defensive work was very good, including a spoil running back with the flight (for those who think he's gutless) that resulted in a turnover and a goal, while in attack there was a delightful overhead tap into the path of a Dogs player that resulted in another goal.
I see plenty of upside and I don't expect him to be de-listed any time soon.

You would delist Tutt over Howard? I'd like to hear your reasoning for that. Howard got half a game this year, Tutt had 9 or 12 or so. McCartney sees something in him, while Howard was stuck in the 2's, and that was before his injury as well.

I wouldnt.
I'd delist list cloggers Greenwood, Pearce and Howard.... well before Tutt.

Barring a miracle, I reckon Boyd will retire after next year, Morris after 2015 and Murphy after 2016. I remember Murph saying on Fox that he has full intentions of playing another 3 years after this one (lighter build will help that). So we will lose a more experience again after 2014 in Boyd and Gia. It will be sad final Home game v the Giants if they do. :(

Way too early to make that call imo. Remember that Pearce pretty much single handedly negated Jeff Garlett in the VFL when he was there for attitude problems. He was on fire that day and had an incredible game. Played some nice footy for Willi this year. Might not make it, but he's far from a list clogger - especially after only a couple of years.
