I honestly just don't see what position Greenwood would be playing if he made it, like he's an inside mid right? (I've seen hardly any of him at all tbh) and even if he becomes a solid player which you'd think is about the best he will get, he wont be getting in over Libba, Wallis, Smith, etc. And from what I've seen I can't really see him playing any other positions. Might be a great kid and all that but I just think I'd rather that rookie spot to be used on a developing ruck or something.
It's a strange thing. This is obviously his last year if he can't crack the senior list.

Agreed, it is hard to see where he would fit into the senior structure [ is he more of a depth player?], even assuming he improves sufficiently.
The only advantage he has over L.,W. & S., is pace... his foot speed is quicker than our regular inside guys. Beyond that ????

Greenwood really did take a backward step in 2013
In 2012 he made the willi seniors late in the year and whilst he butchered the ball a bit, looked undersized, he seemed to be able to find it. In 2013 all the bad seemed to still be there without him picking up many possessions. Perhaps he was under instructions to work on defensive coverage - it is all I can think of. And perhaps he did that part well.

I was certain he would be delisted - but if he were to make it he is really only suited as a midfielder. He has a bit of speed and evasiveness - which we lack - but its quite a project.

Not surprised at the retention of Howard, he could come good. He is a slow burn. He has made the grade at VFL level and at that level is very effective. I expect he could give us 3-4 good years and will be retained for depth purposes.

Pearce is an interesting one as he does not have any particular elite attribute. Best I can say, he is strong for his size and fairly tough. Addison mark 2. Again depth largely. But there is the odd occassion in the VFL where he can appear commanding, composed and very effective. As to where he might play - half back, back pocket or if he could develop a tank even mid field. But he is a conundrum.

Sorry TeKel, but given the differential in abilities between the three, I would have thought youth would hardly be sufficient reason for this decision.
I have seen plenty of Howard at Willi., and for mine he just does not show enough of anything, except perhaps his youth.
Hope I am wrong for his and our sakes, but he just looks like a clogger to me.
Yes you might be right...but the club decision is logical to me. While Addision and Cross are better players than Howard right now, cross expecially, they too are borderline best 22 or even 25.

Howard has youth on his side and someone has to make way for draftees, so the club sees more upside in Howard and takes that punt. It's numbers game really.....you have to give younger players every chance. I think Howard has had injuries that perhaps have slowed is progress....I reckon the club is thinking that way....It's logical enough for me.

It has to be some kind of an off-field decision to retain Greenwood.
He would have to be about the furthest player from playing AFL in the entire AFL system.

Would be surprised if Austin is delisted unless we get a KPD elsewhere. With Marko gone and Redpath no guarantee at all Austin is our only key defensive depth, basically.

DogDays has a vendetta against Austin, but I highly doubt he's going anywhere at all. I also don't get why people are saying Pearce is going, I still think he can get it, and he came from a lower base than the others. I think he'll be fine.

From the main list he's probably 2nd or 3rd in line to be delisted though. Delistings have to come from somewhere. I have faith in Pearce and quite like him but at this point in time, suggesting that Pearce will be delisted at year's end is a pretty fair claim.

You're probably right, but Howard, Gia, and I think Boyd will all go at the end of next year. Plus Greenwood, and probably Redpath. It depends whether we want to take only three picks into the ND, or more. And I think Pearce might show a lot of improvement this year, being played where we want him to play at Footscray, and he'll grab about 5 games at AFL level.

I see the race to sign Maverick Weller has narrowed to St Kilda and us.

Source: Today's Herald Sun.

Thoughts?

I Like him, is much better than some current players on our list. But he is a bit inconsistent, has shown very good signs early. Was a victim of Suns very very good list.

I haven't seen much of him, but this means that somebody is on the outer and we have another potential delistee. Pearce? Tutt?
Does it?

Outs:
Cross
Addison
Markovic
Lower
Veszpremi

Ins:
Crameri
Darley
pick 4
pick 42
Either pick 60 / PSD / rookie pick - or Weller?

Have to remember that whilst Goodes is being promoted to the senior list, that just changes the list composition from 37/5 to 38/4...

Oh yeah, you're totally right. My bad. Was just operating under the presumption that we'd take a rookie pick.

Because they do not have enough depth in ruck division now that Mumford has gone. Pyke and Sam Naismith (rookie listed, zero career games) prior to Derrickx coming on board.

If Pyke goes down, Tippett would have to play No. 1 ruck.
But put it this way, Richmond would rather trade a decent second rounder for Shaun Hampson and keep Stephenson on the list than hold onto Derickx. From what I've seen, he's useless.

Oooohhhh "a vendetta" ---- nah, I just think he's a spud.

Edit - but what do I know, I thought Howard was a spud too... but here he is - still on the list.

As a fan it can sometimes be quite hard to get a gauge of where the players are at.

I think if you logically look at my list however you'd find it pretty spot on as it currently stands for form and skill (except maybe to add Redpath in).

They needed someone who would accept minimum dollars, that's all they have left :p

Also what sort of player is Weller?
He's a Maverick.....

182cm 87+kgs

He sounds like a real Macca type........here's some info;

Maverick Weller hails from Burnie in Tasmania’s industrial north.
He’s a supremely fit, tough, fiercely competitive and hard working midfielder.
An AIS/AFL squad member, he arrived at the GC SUNS after several standout performances as a 16-year old with Tasmania at the National Championships in 2009.
An accurate right foot kick and an aggressive and uncompromising tackler who sports a tattoo of his ‘Top Gun’ namesake he’s equally adept playing inside or outside midfield roles.
Weller was only 15 years old when he made his senior football debut for TAFL side Burnie Dockers.
Weller has been in and out of the side in his first two seasons, and will be looking to cement his spot in 2013.
