Oooohhhh "a vendetta" ---- nah, I just think he's a spud.

Edit - but what do I know, I thought Howard was a spud too... but here he is - still on the list.

As a fan it can sometimes be quite hard to get a gauge of where the players are at.

I think if you logically look at my list however you'd find it pretty spot on as it currently stands for form and skill (except maybe to add Redpath in).
I wanted to use a fancy word :p I don't think he's a spud, but I also don't think he'll ever be part of our best 22, but he is important KPD depth. It's why Hawthorn have guys like Spangher, even though they are undeniably spuds.

He's a Maverick.....

182cm 87+kgs

He sounds like a real Macca type........here's some info;

Maverick Weller hails from Burnie in Tasmania’s industrial north.
He’s a supremely fit, tough, fiercely competitive and hard working midfielder.
An AIS/AFL squad member, he arrived at the GC SUNS after several standout performances as a 16-year old with Tasmania at the National Championships in 2009.
An accurate right foot kick and an aggressive and uncompromising tackler who sports a tattoo of his ‘Top Gun’ namesake he’s equally adept playing inside or outside midfield roles.
Weller was only 15 years old when he made his senior football debut for TAFL side Burnie Dockers.
Weller has been in and out of the side in his first two seasons, and will be looking to cement his spot in 2013.

.
Thanks for that, agree he does sound like a Macca type. Wouldn't be upset with him at all but agree with Dann that I'd rather use the spot on the list for someone speculative who actually fits our needs (fast flankers/wingers, or a ruckman, etc).

Its getting a bit pointless bringing in more of these cheap midfielders because really they are not going to be able to get a game past the kids we already have coming through, I guess Macca might be looking at them for a spot on a flank though following the Sydney model of having tough mids who can win their own ball playing in the pockets and flanks.

Barring injury, he'll get some monstrous offers as a free agent. I could see collingwood, Geelong, melbourne, port all having a serious crack at him.
Collingwood have Grundy and I reckon he's going to be pretty damn good for them, and he looks like the type that doesn't really need an experienced head. Port have Lobbe and Redden, not sure why they would want him. Geelong it depends on how HMac/Simpson go with their injuries, because if one or both get over their injuries they don't need Minson. Melbourne should, they have Fitzpatrick, Gawn and Spencer, but they need someone to mentor those guys because Jamar is cooked, lightly seasoned, and served on a plate with mash and veggies.

Will's had lots of chances to leave before, and he hasn't wanted to. He's on record saying he loves the club and really doesn't want to be anywhere else.

Good enough for me to think he'll sign another contract with us.

Hope this doesn't turn into something I'll regret saying

About as much chance of Minson leaving as Griff. Absolute zero. Loves the club, on record saying he's never wanted to play anywhere else. Unless we push him out, will be a dog for life.

that is all true but he has also never been a free agent in AA form before. As fronk says he could get some monster offers so his past decisions to stay aren't all that relevant. Still reckon he'll stay though too

Agreed.

And if the free agency compo rules remain the same in 2014, and we finish bottom 4 then having 2 picks in the top 5 in a strong draft may not be a bad thing.

Will will be gone when we are ready to challenge again.

An AA ruckman may get better offers than a mid with one knee.

Who knows? I'm not saying he will leave, but do you disagree with this?

A 30 year old former AA Ruckman as opposed to a 27 year old Brownlow medalist who looked to be managing pretty well on one knee. I'd say the offers would be roughly equivalent.

I am saying it's the equivalent of predicting tomorrow's lotto numbers anyway. Yeah theoretically it could happen but it won't. A realist like yourself should understand that.

I made it clear I wasn't predicting this. You still haven't answered what I asked you originally. I've put the question in bold for you, in case you're a bit slow tonight.

I have no faith Cooney will make it through the next two seasons, given the degenerative condition of his knee.

Okay let's in the interests of procrastination entertain your theory. Firstly, it would require Minson to want to leave something he has said with no reservations he never wants to do. Let's assume the unlikely scenario that he can be enticed. Okay next let's assume that his form continues on like this year, which was partially helped by him basically playing a lone hand in 22 games of football. Now lets assume that teams are interested in someone that may only play another 3 years after that point. Do you honestly think that he'll get offered a contract that would give us the highest possible compensation?

That even leaves out the relatively unlikely scenario that we finish in the same position or lower next year and that the AFL will keep the same free agency rules.
So, while no I don't disagree having 2 picks in the top 5 is a good thing. Who would? I do however think that even suggesting it as a possibility is fanciful at best at moronic at worst.

Other teams seemed convinced, considering Coons was reportedly offered 3 year deals.
