Can't see how Addo can bring us anything worthwhile on his own. I think Addo is almost the perfect depth player (the kind you want to keep, but as a barometer you don't necessarily want to see him in the 22). So unless he becomes a pivotal piece in a complex trade I'd be hanging on to him.
Lets say we hypothetically play this forward line:

Hunter Jones Crameri
Grant Patton Dahlhaus

Say that Jones goes down. Neither Crameri nor Grant are #2 key forward marking targets imo. Who takes his place? Campbell? Well then we've got a very slow forward line who will struggle at ground level and at holding the ball in (while Crameri is fast his defensive pressure isn't the best). Cordy? Good luck with that at this stage. Roberts? Might not be ready and definitely isn't now. Williams? We can't plan for him playing a part next year (or ever) because of his shoulders. Stringer? May not be ready.

Now let's look at our hypothetical defense:
Morris Talia Picken
Young Roughead Johannisen

Say Picken goes down. Who takes that dangerous small? People may well suggest Wood here but they also seem happy to cart him off to GWS for a half empty bag of peanuts.

Addison is very much capable of filling roles in both of those scenarios. He's no star player, but he's a serviceable role player and one who I would not be disappointed to see stay on.

If we need to clear out another list spot there is at least one player still remaining who is not a serviceable role player in the slightest. I would suggest we look there.

Re-reading my quote of your post it makes it sound like I'm disagreeing with you TOS; not the case at all. :)
You did have me wondering... I agree, that's why I suggested he is almost the perfect depth player. His benefit is only realised when/if we have an injury, hence the barometer comment. You want him on the list, but not in the 22 'cos it means we have some problems.

If Addison stays he will be delisted at the end of 2014 and his career will be over. His manager should be looking for another club, hopefully one who will offer him a 2 year deal.
If he wants to leave I would completely understand. I'm just saying that if we can hold on to him, he could still play a role.

I agree entirely. He's just not smart enough (as a player) or skilled enough to help us win finals. He has a role at afl level somewhere, but we need to be looking for better than that in my opinion. I'd move him on.

I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you, but did you watch some of the finals he played from 08-10? Was good during some of them. I don't think he would be found out in finals football if he was selected.

I'm huge on smart players who make good decisions and use the ball well. Addison fails that test for mine.

Again, he'll play games for us if he stays on the list. No question. And I love his attack on the footy. He's a useful player. I just think we need to go past him. If he's still playing REGULAR senior footy for us in 12 months time, something's gone horribly wrong.

Why has something gone considerably wrong. On a few occasions Addision has provide a great contest and has kicked bags of goals. What's to say that with another pre-season and the coaches backing he can't go on and perform at a high level for longer periods and become more consistent. It wasn't that long ago Minson was looked at simaliar and he went on to be AA. No reason why Addo can't. When his on, his hard to stop one on one in the forward line due to being a good contested mark and is normally a good kick at goal.

Addison's had 8 years on the list and is still a bit player. If you think he has another gear in him, I'll happily disagree.

Not the end of the world if he stays on the list, but games into stringer, hunter, grant, young, Pearce, Dickson, scharenberg (if drafted) is far more important for mine than playing Addison.

Addison had a productive year i thought. He was solid. If he can do it on a consistent basis he will be quality for us. he caused headaches for opposition teams on a number of occasions. I would say others should be on the chopping block before him. Signing Crameri may push him out though.

By then though Fronk we'll hopefully have viable depth options elsewhere - we hope they will be Cordy, Stringer (of course will be best 22 eventually we hope, but depending on fitness maybe not quite next year), Roberts etc up forward, and then in defense potentially 1-2 draftees. Addison won't be best 22 in 12 months, not will he be round 1 next year - but he's the most valuable depth option we've got.

I would take him
We need him
He is crazy talented
Apparently he's had four knee reconstructions, jumper's knee and some weird skin condition that is considered highly contagious and in some cases, deadly.

We should be really considerate of this, yebiga. Pass.

Goodes would be a great mentor for Garlett too. Could live with him and show him the ropes / professionalism required to make it at this level.
Yeah definitely and I feel we have a good bunch of staff/players/people at the club to keep him on the right path.

Garlett Jones Hunter
Grant Patton Dahlhaus

With Garlett, Hunter and Dahl rotating through the middle and the likes of Stringer, Smith, etc spending time in the forward line too. That's deadly!

How high would Garlett likely go in the draft?
That's the big unknown. On talent alone he could go first round - but same could be said last year and he didn't even get drafted at all (because of off-field/attitude issues).

I'd be prepared to give him a chance - but not with an early draft pick. Late second round onwards though and I reckon he'd be worth the risk.

Its a balancing act isnt it Dannnnnn. Got your top 25 guys, a bunch of kids, and then a small number of "depth" players. Cant have too many in that category at the expense of kids or you end up with a very very ordinary list.

I dont mind if Addison stays for another 12 months, but I dont think he's a particularly high quality talent and I certainly don't think he can take his game to another level. He is what he is at this point.

Again, it seems pointless to consider "moving on" a loyal and handy depth player when you will get NOTHING for him. (FA). Not all listed players can be "Best 22".
Not saying I'm for or against trading Addison, but the one thing you do get is an extra spot on your list...
