I don't think we necessarily need guys or even stars from other clubs just because Geelong or Hawthorn are doing so. We won the premiership with 2 guys that had only played a handful of games at other clubs (Biggs and T Boyd) everyone else was home grown! This is sometimes overlooked in the media. Even Hamling was developed as our player.
I like what Motlop CAN offer, I don't like his consistency and work ethic and I'm worried about his contract $$$ and duration. If the powers that be think he is worth getting, I'll back that in....

Dickson is getting on - not sure we can count on much more out of him for too much longer. So is Crameri for that matter.

Carn Terry. Premiership hero Tom Boyd for pick 6 and steak knives, premiership hero Shane Biggs for a two pick downgrade, turning king of potatoes Liam Jones into premiership hero Caleb Daniel. Need I go on?

You'd think Motlop could get to GWS for a good pick as picks are like confetti for them. Could also be used in a three way for Touhy and Marchbank with Carlton throwing a pick back to Geelong.

All good just that once you get close to 30 it can end quickly.

Exhibit A - Ryan Griffen.

Anybody else think it may be worthwhile throwing a Koby, Hrovat & Honeychurch combo to Brisbane to try and secure Rockliff and their 2nd or 3rd Rd'er..

I would back Bevo and team to turn ROK around.. still think he has elite potential.. being a benalla boy would slot in with our Ballarat & Bendigo connections well

How does that help them get Deledio which you'd assume is priority #1.
There are shades of Brad Scott North about how Chris Scott and Geelong are proceeding to top up with vets. I'm guessing they hope they can win in the next year or so, squeezing the last ounce of football out of Taylor, Lonergan, Bartel etc.

Id rather not have a fat, unmotivated Motlop on our list. Even if it is for a second or third rounder.

That's not how we won the flag. We got that cup having a bunch of guys who would basically die for each other when it got tough.

If motlop pushed a Clay Smith/Dickson/Mclean type out of the side I wouldnt be ok with it.
Spot on, can't see him fitting our team ethos.

Does he pass the "no dickhead" test?
Gut feel says maybe not...

The most important thing with our list this year and next given its profile is to lock in as many of our guns as possible and continue to develop those on the list. We do not need a Motlop type, would prefer to draft and develop Ben Long and Mitch Hannan hopefully as rookies, as this is where we have room, for that x factor to replace Dicko and Crammers over the next couple of years.

For our list structure Cloke for what we are paying in terms of picks and salary, that is a no brainer.

From all my sources Hammers will be signing for 2 years so with Adams, Collins and Cordy developing we only need to draft or promote rookies.

Stephens will get no better than a 3rd rounder, as will Hrovat. Minson of course is no longer on the list. With Cloke coming on we will still need to trade out or delist 1 more player. That will be the interesting one.

So for the first time ever, I hope we do very little trading as this list was primarily built from wthin, and of course it is a premiership list.

GWS are over the cap already. Admitted so earlier this year. They must trade out contracted players. Teams could low ball them and take extra players to get them under the cap.
IF they don't get under the cap, the afl have a limp lettuce leaf to through at them. It could get serious and they get a fine or lose a first round pick or something.... nothing that will hurt them. The recruitment team might not even notice the missing pick and afl head office will pay the fine anyway.

this is really damn right. Keep Hamling, go to the draft, turn Dale, Webb, Williams into stars and lock in JJ, and the 2018 boys Macrae and Jakey into longer deals

Understand that point of view, that's why I said the powers that be would need to be ok with it. If they think they can turn him around (and we have ex-Geelong guys with us), then I'm happy enough with the risk.
