I was under the impression their salary cap concessions and extra list spots have been prematurely ended on them on short notice. Although on closer reading of the article: http://www.smh.com.au/afl/afl-news/...st-squeeze-at-gws-giants-20161006-grwmi8.html shows it may be the case that GWS was aware of the changes for longer than I'd initially thought. If the decision to change their salary cap and list arrangements was made at the end of the season, it's a bit of a disgrace.

As the Swans have found out to their cost:

The AFL giveth and the AFL taketh away.

Corrupt, knee-jerk, rules on the run organisation.

Having said that, I'm down with anyone who finds a way to mess with the Orange Plastics.

Reportedly 5yr/700k for O'meara from Hawthorn...

Desperation. Gonna be running in pain for the rest of his days.

Am I the only one who thinks tht GWS' depth is hugely overrated? Wasn't Sam Reid an emergency for the prelim?
They go back to normal salary cap next year. Concerning for them cause they would have a stack of players over 500k per season.

Cameron, Ward, Griffen, Shiel, Davis at a minimum.

Shaw, Mumford, Scully, Cognilio, Lobb? A couple more other candidates as well would not to be earning close to that figure.

Shiel is out of contract next season. Watch Carlton, North Melbourne launch a massive bid for him.

I would be surprised if we aren't into a few of their guys too.
But north and Carlton will have massive cap space and lots of motivation to get in someone good. Hoping that Tigers target them too but they will probably have a new coach, recruiters and list management team by then.

Shiel, Kelly, and Hopper will all have massive offers tabled to them next year.

Nick Haynes would be bloody perfect. He was on the verge of destroying us in that prelim. He would fit so nicely in our zone. Intercepts, moves really well, uses the ball well and offers rebound.

When's he out of contract people??

Should be target number one.

Stk, Ess, Carlton, Norf, in particular would have heaps of room next year.

They could offer double what GWS could.

Throw in Heeney from Sydney too. He would get close to a million a season in Victoria. Would be on no more than 400k at the swans come next year. Buddy, Tippett and Hannerbury all on 700k plus a season. Ouch.

I think we'll see teams backing themselves and offering really large term deals aswell as big money per year deals for these players like we did with Boyd.

Its best for us with a really talented and balanced list to stick to reasonably orthodox list management as it will be chaos in the next couple of years. We might be able to pick up some really good vets on the cheap from teams in cap crunches to strengthen our list.

As always drafting well will be key so we have cheap players who can contribute.

Agree. Personally if your a team like Carlton, Essendon etc who could do with an A grade potential key forward to help Daniher or even build a key forward, then IMO they should offer a huge deal to someone like Josh Schache. I mean close to Tom Boyd size deal. Not only because he has the talent but also players from Brisbane are getting pried out left right and centre.

I think if clubs are smart, then they should be following the example we set. As it has worked out so bloody well.

The Boyd trade is just one aspect of the example set by just one premiership team- it's hardly the measured recipe for success.

If clubs are as predictably reactionary as they usually are, they'll blindly follow our lead in this regard. If they are smart, they'll notice that premiership teams tend to have two things: a good group of players and a good coach; then they'll do everything they can to acquire those things through various routes.

We've built a premiership team primarily through canny drafting, with one monster trade and a couple of discards from other teams. Others, like Sydney and Hawthorn, have built premiership teams with a heavier trading focus. It's not about which route you take, but which players you choose along your route.

Not only the media but even our own supporters underestimate the quality of our list.

There is still the feeling that we arsed this premiership by luck and timing.

But aside from GWS there is no current list with our depth.

If we come out hungry next season - watch out

11 AA quality players

Liber
Dalhaus
Morris
T Boyd
Wood
M Boyd
R Murphy
JJ
Hunter
Macrae

Will/Should be AA quality
