Had Deledio come out and nominated Geelong? Or was it just rumours?

If he comes out and says he wants to be a dog I'd back bev and jmac to get it done.
Bev will make him come out and say he wants to be a dog. Then Jmac will get it done.

No problems with offering a first rounder, especially this year's. People forget that quality players can play well into their 30s, and Deledio will be no exception, especially if he can get his body right.

With that said, I believe we can't trade this year's pick because the rules state every club must use at least one first round pick every two years, and we traded our solitary first rounder last year. It's a shame because people are still undervaluing future picks, and ours is very likely to be better than this year's.

If the Tigers demand Honeychurch, then they'll need to throw in their 2nd/3rd along with it.

I agree with this, but the rules mean we have to keep this year's first.
No it doesn't.. we have to keep this years or next years first pick. We were trading it for Hurley this year..

No they don't.
Rule only started last year and only applies from last year onwards.

I said this in June. Over and above any player we should be going for a certain type:-

I disagree. He is exactly what we need, now and going forward. I would also add Touk Miller, Adam Saad, Jasper Pittard or as a left field suggestion, Zak Jones or Dane Rampe from Sydney.

If we are going to have sustained success we need to strengthen this area.

Boyd and Murphy are older. Maybe they have 2 years left. But what about after that? JJ and Wood are also prone to injury.

Our offensive game and as a consequence scoring has suffered terribly ever since both JJ and Murphy went down. Our best offensive game starts with rebound off half back and we have looked a shadow of our best ever since JJ/Murphy and now Wood have been out of the team. We now attack slower, and teams are more easily able to defend us.

Whilst I want our younger boys we've recruited to succeed, how long should we wait? We should be looking to contend now, next year and every year. Hunter, Stevens and Libba, while they can cover injuries to the back line are better suited in midfield. Why rob our midfield of rotations when we could have a ready made good attacking rebounding defender who can make the right decisions?

Look at the games on the weekend. Jarrad Mcveigh, Heath Shaw, Jimmy Bartel, Corey Enright.

You put your best decision makers behind the ball and let them direct traffic.

I will reiterate we have not looked anywhere near our offensive best because the ball on the rebound is too stagnant, too slow. This is central to our game plan and I hope we go out into the trade market to fix it.

Now Lids is older and a bit more injury prone than what i'd like. But still. He's not quite the stopper that Moyd can be, but decision making off HB and through the middle. Jesus we would be electric.

A risk using our pick 18, but worth it. And possibly some steak knives.

This is my worry.

Played every game from 08-13, then his games tally reads:
2014: 19
2015: 18
2016: 11

I like Lids, I don't like the trend above and his age.
19->18->11 isnt really a trend.

If he played another season this year and only got through 10 games or so then maybe you could say it was a trend.

If trading for Deledio it might be worth making it part of the Prestia trade to see if we can get one of GC's second round picks thrown in that Richmond otherwise might not have or be prepared to part with.

Why a future first? Unless we go back to back it'll be a better pick, and it's apparently a better draft and definitely stocked with talls. Sorry, that's just impatient thinking.
Disagree

It gives us no flexibility for 2017-18 if we trade our first this year because of what we did last year trading out 11 for those two 2nds

Richmond also might think 18 as unders for Lids and yes the risk is that next years pick could be a much better one, but it's a risk I'd be willing to take and we can bank a first rounder being used in the four year period. Who knows next year, we might get a walk out and we get a first rounder back to use if a player walks out and apparently Rhylee West will be a FS in 2018 and is highly rated already so we may need a pick that year for him too.

The penalty for not using 2 firsts in four years is only a restriction on how we can trade them in the future, if a player comes along that's good enough we could just take the hit. I'd be hoping we'd use next year's first anyway. I think if we trade it we'll end up regretting it.

It is a trend if you look at it like this:
19 - (Y x Y x Y) =
19 - (0 x 0 x 0) = 19
19 - (1 x 1 x 1) = 18
19 - (2 x 2 x 2) = 11
19 - (3 x 3 x 3) = -8!!!!
A very worrying trend.

I don't understand why Bev would anything but very interested. The addition of elite kicking skills will really help us if we are to gap other teams in contention. We absolutely butcher the ball by foot far too often. Deledio would be a massive upgrade in kicking skills on all our defenders and wings except Murphy.
Well he does like goal kicking mids...

Congrats Doggies you had the enite melbourne based afl supporters behind you and you did well - Congratts

If lids is to move, I would be OK with him going to the Dogs

Not that anything we say can influence any trades but Lids body is fine and he is extremely durable, Last season he could have played another 4-5 games but our season was shot and we played all the kids on our list.

Lids will play until 34 easily and is extremely fit and durable similar to a 29 yo Bob Murphy in regards to his durability

Good Luck

What kind of pick + Honeychurch would allow us to keep our first do you think? Pure speculation of course, Honey's contracted and we might not have the pick. But what would the value of that pick be, hypothetically?
I would be looking to attain an early second rounder if possible. I would prefer to use a first this year, otherwise we'll be forced to our firsts in the next 2 years with no flexibility.

We would only regret it if we did a Freo and plummeted

Doubt that happens with our list profile

He's considered a very high character guy as well from what I've heard. Would you agree?

if we get 18 off you guys it may be used (along with a player) in the Prestia deal seeing as we don't wanna trade pick six.

as long as GC accepts that of course :(
18 and steak knives in a heartbeat for Lids. I'd do it.

Maybe a swap of second round picks? I dunno. Depends how Dalrymple rates this draft list and who he likes.
