What sort of money would Minson be earning, seeing as his last contract was signed when he was AA?

If we aren't going for a KPD then I hope we are loading up to go for Breust next year..

Adds some smarts & firepower to the forward line, yes please.
Would rather get our talls in order before a cream on the cake signing like that

Surely we can draft a kid/state leaguer who can fill that type of role

Last year we played our best footy with BTC in the team.

This year we played our best footy with BTC in the team.

Hopefully we're not into moneyball. Richmond had a guru moneyball guy. That seems to have given them the results completely expected by all those external to the club.

to be honest, Roughy is in the bottom bunch of worst #1 rucks. Our mids would go to another level with a decent ruck.

the amount of times i see 3rd and 4th man ups and the ball goes no where near our players is so bloody frustrating. If we had a decent ruck maybe we could leave a few small/mid forwards in the forward line and not up the ground
Agree, the mix of defence orientated plus Macca numbers around the footy method kills our forward structure

Need to find a happy medium like what Sydney and Hawthorn have been able to do, definitely having a dominant/competent number one ruck helps the domino effect

Totally agree. Don't see Hawkins in the Ruck at Geelong, or Tex at Adelaide, Buddy at Sydney, Kennedy at West Coast, Cameron at GWS.

However, if he's to be developed as a Dean Cox clone then we need a FF.
Don't forget Bevo has come from the Hawthorn model, where they don't play a traditional structure. Roughead goes into the ruck. I'm sure he's trying to replicate that fluid movement and positional play. I don't think we will ever play a stay at home full forward, but to be fair to Luke, we traded for Boyd before he got there.

Hawthorn plays traditional structure, just this year with injuries and retirements theyre forced to play many medium types

They're an outside team too, Adelaide is the closest playing style to them

Imo the WCE model will work eventually for them as long as their midfield stands up

Arguably our best football this year came from Camhead swapping in the ruck and Redpath playing predominantly forward. We can play three giants in the same side, with Boyd replacing Redpath if we had the players fit.

Three giants but not four. If we recruit Cloke and play Boyd, that only leaves one spot for Rough or BTC. Plus Redpath to presumably come back at some stage to compete with and /or replace Cloke.

Draft a state league tall do you mean?
I don't really follow that league but I know Brett Eddy has been desperate to get picked up again for a while.

We definitely need more smart players in the forward line though & to be smarter when kicking the ball into the forward line.

Na drafting a small/medium forward, a pure finisher etc

We are past drafting talls with a view to be best 22 quickly, it will stagnate us unless we find another Adams type, we need to trade for them so they can contribute immediately while we still have our three old blokes around.

My "sources" are mainly second-hand (I know people who know people close to the club) but most of what I've heard has been corrobarated between the 4-5 sources I have.

Some info is dodgy because I'm only heard it from one person and there's a bit of Chinese whispers going on but most of what I've posted I've heard from at least two people.

Also some of the info is outdated by a week or two so things change.

Hannan would fit the bill nicely there. He's the best of that type in the VFL.

I'd Be still interested in Vardy. Reckon he and Boyd could be a good combination. Don't see any better you ruckman on the market and Geelong are not going to be able to keep him.
played against Port Melb yesterday, 10 touches and 4 hitouts. he was on heavy min restrictions.

Vardy and Cloke are decent fallbacks but they shouldn't be our number 1 and 2 targets though.

From what I understand about Campbell there's still question marks about his endurance. It's improved but his mobility around the ground is still pretty poor.

I'm not suggesting for a second we push him out. A lot changes between now and the end of the year and there's every chance a good finals series in either team changes it. And obviously, a lot of it hinges on the interest with other clubs.

This is what I understand with my "sources"

Our desire for a KPD isn't as strong as people on this board, think, largely because we're bullish about Collins contributing next year, still see Cordy as a KPD, and obviously rate Roberts higher than many on this board do. Hamling's good recent form helps as well. Hurley was targeted moreso as an obtainable AA-quality player as opposed to filling a need for a KPD.

Honeychurch is going to get traded if he's happy to leave despite having a year left on his contract, there's a surprisingly high amount of interest for him from other clubs and we obviously hardly have a spot for him in our best 22 with everyone injured.

The only thing stopping Cloke trade from happening is the extent of how much Collingwood pay his salary. We're not willing to pay anything more than what we would otherwise for a DFA or similar (so say 150k p/y) so Pies will have to pay the 300k or whatever for the rest of his contract next year. We might pivot around that by giving the Pies slightly overs in the trade (a higher pick, or not as much in return if something like Jong does leave). I'd say it's 70/30 that Cloke is in Dogs colours next year (not that I want him but that's what I've heard).

Jong's likely to stay if we change up our negotiations and offer him a 3rd year, which we might do after re-assessing his form in recent weeks, but he's about 30/70 to stay/leave. Collingwood most likely but there's a few others interested.

Whether or not Campbell stays is a matter of whether we get the other fringe ruckmen we're targeting - Nankervis etc. The club sees Roughy/Boyd as the ruck duo for next year onwards at least, and it's not to say that they don't rate Campbell, it's just they think the difference in another fringe ruck for backup between Campbell/Nankervis is smaller than the difference in draft picks/salary cap room. Campbell is considered good backup who can play forward or ruck but unlikely to force his way back into the team.

Stevens is outta here. Demanding obscene amount of money that some team who strikes out with other targets might just suck it up and offer him. We'll trade him cheaply.

Hrovat we've got a cheapish offer on the table, it's just a matter of whether he wants to stay and force his way into the team or earn a bit more game time and money elsewhere. I reckon he'll stay.

Hamling will stay.

Not sure on Boyd.
A lot of this is slightly incorrect as I hear it so will be interesting to see how it rolls out.

True about the KP not being a priority we are after quick ball users to deliver to our forwards.

Honey will be traded but at the moment only one team has enquired about him.

We are willing to pay around 300k for Cloke but anything over that the pies have to meet.

Jong will not be offered 3 years due to that taking him into the period when Bont and co come out of contract and we ant nothing to hinder those resignings. Word at the VFL on Saturday is he is leaving.

Stevens isn't a money issue he wanted 4 years but has already informed club he wants out. Essendon and tigers are keen.

Hrovat no interest from any clubs at all.

Campbell will move on if we get Nankervis who is now out preferred ruck option.

Hamling was never leaving

Roberts is up for trade.

Has been some interest from other clubs in Smith and Webb

We need a number one kpf. Not a second string that we think could fill that role. We should have learned from being burnt in the past with that mindset (rawlings, welsh etc). Cloke fits that bill perfectly. Id prefer someone else but he is the best available at the moment. Xavier Richards is not a number one kpf, but a very adequate second string. Which we also need so I hope we go all in. Have been reading harry dear/deer (sp?) and see that he's doing alright in the sanfl so he seems a likely type.
