Especially when they think this; :drunk:
We all have hopeless optimists on our boards.

I don't have an issue with us taking a little unders if it gets a guy who has been a long term part of our club to somewhere he would be happy finishing his career. I think that kind of thing is good for the spirit of the club/playing group.

There are two elements besides Cloke the player: his salary and the compo that comes back our way. I'd hope that if we're being helpful on one of those, we do a bit better on the other, e.g. if we're paying half his salary, the compo is a bit better or vice versa. Would be disappointed if we took a bath on both - if that were to be the case I prefer he finish his contract with us and stay a one club player.

Might not happen, maybe saving the bit of cap space is enough for us and you'll get him as a real bargain. We'll see.

Anyway, just wanted to offer an alternative view.

So just say you pay half his contract, what would you be expecting in a trade?

Okay, so if we get Cloke, what is everyone's expectation for next year?

How would we structure up?

I can see Cloke being a permanent forward, Boyd sharing ruck duties with one of Roughead / Campbell / Whoever we Bring in.

Thoughts?
Starts at 40m out and runs up the wings. He has a massive tank so he just needs to provide a constant option. Don't go any closer to the goals. If he can link up at the wing he can launch bombs over the opposition defence.
We shouldn't judge him on goals but inside 50s and contested marks up the ground.

Did anyone watch the Hawks v Pies game? How did Cloke play?
Played pretty well I thought, was positioned fairly deep mostly. Looked really dangerous in marking contest and took four contested marks (eight in total). Had his usual wobbles from set shots close in but was much more confident from mid range and further, kicked 2 goals 2 in the end.

Cloke in a N Riewoldt like role would work. Has a huge tank and can take a good grab. Work his opponents into the ground

Is Cloke an upgrade on Redpath?

Is Cloke an upgrade on a non-playing, injured Redpath who may not play in 2017 or thereafter?

That's the way we've got to look at it, we got nothing. Nothing. Cloke is an upgrade on nothing.

Hardly a ringing endorsement but spot on.

Tiges may be looking at Cloke as KP cover for Vickery and/or in case they get a dream offer for Griffiths or Reiwoldt.

Can't understand Norf being interested.

Wells and Cloke would shape as higher risk versions of what Norf did with Waite and Dal Santo. Difference for us is we'd still have a great young list if they retire/don't work out.

So possibly worth the risk at cheap rates and if nothing better.

But IMO I don't think either win us a flag and would be against getting them. But can also understand why we would.
