Also anyone else understanding the theme of this trade period as a bunch of clubs shuffling deck chairs. Love that the dogs are really calculated and don't just do stuff for the sake of it

Haven't you seen the price of spuds lately Mof ?
Half a million per year apparently, unless you haven't played football for two years then it's $700k.
Then there's the Collingwood tax (Mayne and Wells :drunk:).
Ahern for $300k pa
3 year for Jordan Lewis at $600k pa

Tom Boyd suddenly looks like an absolute bargain - and Crammers at $450k positively penny-pinching given he's a 4 time club goal-kicking champion.

Hoskin Elliot worth 2 x 2nd rounders but Hamling JUST worth 35, possibly a pick in the 40's according to trade radio clowns.

Why are every other clubs KPP rated at a premium but ours?
I've read that Sydney should be looking for a second rounder for Richards because he played in the GF... but Hamling who played really well all finals series might possibly get us 35 if we are lucky. It's a joke.

Why do people keep suggesting Eric Mackenzie? His body isn't what it once was and if he can't play in the Eagles' defensive system which involves zoning off, pressing and intercept marking, what's to suggest that he can play in our defensive system which involves zoning off, pressing and intercept marking?

Everybody rambles on and on about how our defensive success is through system and not player. But then by extension doesn't that logic mean that we need players who are good "system" players and understand their role in a complex defensive system, even if they're not directly talented?

I get that players like Fletcher Roberts aren't the greatest one-on-one defender but he clearly understands our defensive structures, mechanisms and is a cog in a complex defensive pressing and zoning system. Mackenzie might be an upgrade in a defensive stopper role, but given our defence is all about system, I'd back in Roberts to understand that better than a player who has clearly demonstrated he can't at another club.

I think people mention McKenzie because his best season of AFL was under Simpson in a zone setup.

Tempted to quote this on every page.

The E-Mac desire is the new "let's get McStay" every week, even after he signed a contract extension.

Maybe it's not that he can't play that system, maybe it's that Barass and McGovern just play it a whole lot better.

When an unproven Marchbank will undoubtedly fetch far more than a proven Hamling then yeah it's even more of a joke.

Potential aye

Its about a balance.. you do need to keep active and fill holes that can appear.. KPD/KPF could be potential issue.

I think the 'hate' term was well overplayed for JMac.. nothing wrong with a bit of banter on options.. it is what this period is all about.
Totally agree with being active and filling holes, just no need this year. Spots are going to become more available in coming years so we do it then not now. If we are going to trade this year the spots we would need to open up is by moving on our veterans and I see no need to do that this year. Defiantly room for discussion and banter though, some people do make good points and show a bit of knowledge, hysteria and over stating though can be a bit much by some but I do think they tend to be in he minority.
