Ok result for an out of contract player.

DONE DEAL: HAMLING TO THE DOCKERS

Premiership defender Joel Hamling has joined Fremantle.

In a deal confirmed on Tuesday afternoon, the Western Bulldogs receive the Dockers' pick No.35.

The Bulldogs also received Fremantle’s picks 43 and 61, in exchange for picks 40 and 63.

"We thank Joel for his contribution over the past two years and wish him all the best for his future with Fremantle," Bulldogs list manager Jason McCartney said

"We believe we have reached a fair and equitable deal for Joel, and will keep our options open as to what we do with our picks ahead of the trade deadline on Thursday.

Not too bad. Thanks for the finals series Joel, good luck at Freo.

In my view that is crap result for hamling but ah well. Hopefully we crush the dockers next year.

Ah well. Swings and roundabouts. We're still great though with good kpd depth and that caps off a great result from a DFA, we bought low, Freo bought high

got him for nothing, helped us win a premiership, then sold off for pick 35.

worse things have happened.

Lets be honest, the result could have been worse than this. Made the best of a shit situation.

We have basically just done

Hamling - 35 (DFA -> 35)
40 - 43 (Down 3)
63 - 61 (Up 2)

As guttered as I am about losing Hamling to pick up a second round pick for someone who was on the scrapheap two years ago and arguably mid year is a pretty good result.

Implications
- 61 may be what Collingwood are after for Cloke, to have points for their F/S. They may throw in something 70+ for equalisation (No bidding points that late)
- The extra second round pick may get involved in a Deledio trade (here's hoping)

I hope the people who are the for Adams staying camp aren't the same ones who are rubbishing the Lonergan idea.

Take age out of the equation. If we got Tom Lonergan he's probably more likely to play more games for the Dogs than Adams is.

Adams is pretty much out the door. We won a premiership this year and he's still happy to leave. If either of Adams or Lonergan is full back next year then I'm 99% confident that we'd have to replace them anyway.
How can you just take age out then talk about best case senarios for the future?

We have to make some attempt to move the bunch of later picks we'll end up with for '17 assets. AFL's sudden change of the rules has really stuffed us; we planned for points packaging last year.

Chances are we are going to the draft only with 18, 35 and whatever we get for Hrovat?
Yes. We only have 3 spots on the list as it sits now. Unless we can package some later picks to move up the list, which I think would be smart. I'm sure something should be able to be done with Gold Coast.
