I like to think I'm realistic with player values but I remain adamant that Hrovat's worth is considerably more than the "steak knives" bandied around by the media and others.

Rat is a young player of great character who also offers supreme leadership. He is versatile. When given an opportunity at the level he has shown AFL capabilities - particularly when given time in the middle of the ground. His ball use isn't elite but it is at a level that you generally only find in the top 20-30 picks in the draft. When you talk about players' ability to find targets inside 50 he'd be top ten on our list at least, and that's an extremely valuable asset to any club.

Running counter to that are his injury issues and his uncontracted status, but I still believe he's worth a late second. 25-40 is his value in my opinion. Would be disappointed to lose him for less.
I completely agree with you about Hrovat's actual worth, but we've got no leverage. On top of what you've already mentioned (injuries, uncontracted) is the knowledge that we need to clear four list spots total. Thanks to Hrovat we might get some value after he said he was willing to go to either, but I've got little faith that's enough to get us 33. Maybe with whatever we get for Stevens packaged up though.

Think Hrovat will be traded for a future third round pick regardless of where he ends up.

I think our next course of action is to try and get 36 off St Kilda, probably using pick 43 in some capacity.

Hamling out allows us to hit the four without trading Rat. Minson, Prudden, Hamling, Stevens.

If we are to believe that Rat wanted to stay but was not offered a contract, we have more leverage than is public knowledge.

Cmon dude

Plenty can happen until then

If he nails a spot all year, stays injury free, helps us cement a top 4 spot and his off field stuff is ok/learns to live in Melbourne (not sure on his marital status) then we give him a significant pay rise and he stays and is happy at the kennel.

We can't give up on him easily, if he does want out then he has to tell us early enough so we have months to scout adequate replacements etc

Makes no sense dumping him now, would only do it if a gun comes in which is highly unlikely

I'm hoping for North's 32/33 for Rat. Would expect Carlton's 25 to be off the table so I imagine North will win the bidding war if they cough up one of those picks.
Don't mind the idea of back to back picks, so:

Saints give us Future 3rd pick for Stevens

Norf give us P34 and Future 3rd rd for Hrovat & P43

End up with 18, 34 & 35 (and two future 3rd rds)
Cloke for 61.

Gone Minson, Stevens, Hamling, Hrovat

I'd be ok with that.

As it stands now, assuming we can get Cloke for pick 61, that leaves us with only 3 spaces on our list if Stevens and Hrovat leave. Therefore any picks we get for these two that are worse than pick 43 are not going to be used. There's much water under the bridge yet of course but Jmac will probably be doing several trade swaps to maximise those 3 selections.
By the way, is R Smith going to be promoted off the rookie list? If so, that complicates things a bit further.

Then wasted it overpaying for a hack like hill. Watch him spend half the year in the 2nds like jetta this year
Hill has got great pace. He can easily run away from his opponent. Particularly impressive when his opponent has the ball! Even more commonly after he pulls out of the hard ball contest prior to his opponent running away with the ball.

I just can't see anyway we keep this guy beyond next season. That disappoints me greatly because he has several elite attributes and when he's not defending a 196 + cm tall he's looked outstanding.

I'm bloody hopeful I'm wrong. And if someone offered a juicy first round carrot (or a first rounder was part of the deal) I would take it.

got him for nothing, helped us win a premiership, then sold off for pick 35.

worse things have happened.
And now he has to beat the curse of the Griff that has haunted all ex doggies since our not so fearless ex skipper left us in the lurch!! As much as we enjoyed that 1st Sat in October imagine the pain that the Griff would have felt!!
