From all reports he didn't actually request a trade. Just said if one could be done that would benefit the club he'd do it to go home.

If he stays and cements himself, he's likely to stay longer.
Well fingers crossed that happens. Would easily be the best result. Surely he knows that he already has a best 22 spot when fit though? Only games he missed was due to injury.

I don't get this.

We get a year out of him that doesn't go into Collins or another player that will actually be there long term.

Then we lose him for SFA next year when he's out of contract.
Aren't we a higher chance of going back to back with him in the side? Keep him for the year and sort it out next year. His value will be more if he plays anywhere near how he was at the start of this year.

If Adams stays on next year obviously both WA teams will be in his ear throughout the season. So in the second half of next season what do we do? Continue to play him or sit him out and give others the game time.
We have seen players drop off when they know they are going to another team.

Best thing to do would be to re-sign him and maybe a handshake agreement of a trade next year? It's a win/win for both parities.

Boyd Adams Wood
Murphy Morris JJ

this could be our back 6 next year with the bold finishing up at the end of the year possibly. While we have cordy Roberts Biggs suckling Wallis? With Williams smith lynch Collins even prudden as possible options to take over.

We could be wiping close to a million dollars of our salary cap at the end of next season, yes other players payments will go up.

If we look at the backline alone and how much we spend there we could have a fair bit of change freed up to bring in a big name in 12 months time.

Every time I hear someone say they want Adams to stay I instantly think of the Macarthy situation.

I have no reason to believe Adams won't play good footy for us when on the park next year, one issue I do have is starting a backline with four guys- he, bob, boyd and moz that won't be there the next year. Will probably sort itself out though, deep rotation back there and injuries happen

No need to panic re tall backs. Plenty of options available young to old.
Just to put some names out there. Hansen, Sphanger, etc
Bevo and the coaching staff moulded a premiership defence out of nothing.

All discussions about Motlop are probably pointless from this point forward.

Also a little about some other bloke remaining at the kennel that may be of interest.

STEVEN Motlop will almost certainly be a Cat in 2017, with the club and player mutually agreeing not to pursue trade options any further.

Motlop is contracted with Geelong for next season but he was put on the trade table after a disappointing 2016 finals series.

Despite his obvious game-breaking talents, Motlop, 25, did not attract huge interest from opposition clubs, with his lucrative 2017 salary a potential deterrent for any potential suitor.

AFL.com.au understands Geelong and Motlop have recently met and agreed he will remain at Simonds Stadium in 2017 after a frank discussion in which the club and Motlop found common ground on their expectations for next year.

Motlop is set to become a free agent at the end of next season, with his salary highly likely to make him a restricted free agent, giving the Cats the right to match any rival offer.

Motlop has played 112 games with Geelong, including all 24 this season, and kicked 153 goals.

Marcus Adams looks set to remain with the Western Bulldogs in the wake of fellow tall defender Joel Hamling's request for a trade to Fremantle.

Adams had discussions with the Bulldogs in the second half of the season about the possibility of returning home to Western Australia in the trade period, but always knew it was a remote prospect.

After Hamling requested a trade to the Dockers on Saturday, the Bulldogs contacted Adams to reiterate he remained a required player.

Adams is happy to play on at the Whitten Oval in 2017 and appreciates his prospects of cementing a regular senior spot in the Bulldogs' backline are strong, especially after Hamling's departure.
