(I'm not even going to mention how stupid it is to trade out our best forward for a team that was already 18th in goals per inside 50, and a player who is as good and underrated as Stringer [no 2 goals are kicked the same way, Stringer kicking a goal after winning a hard ball is of greater "value" than Ben Brown taking an uncontested mark on the lead, etc. etc.], and the off-field basis of Stringer loving the club, having friends at the club etc, moving on from that)
Can we get something straight:
Jake Stringer is a contracted player for 2018.
Stringer might want out. We might be trying to push him out for draft/player assets greater than what we think he's worth to our team. Another club might be offering something obscene at the trade table that even if neither of the first two points is true, it's worth entertaining a trade just for what the other club is offering.
It doesn't matter which one of these, if any of all, are true.
All it takes is for the other party to slam the contract for 2018 down on the table and say "no trade is happening here".
It would be a different story if he was uncontracted. But he's not. If the rumours of a trade are somewhat true (not that I think it is), I almost think it's kinda irrelavent: if Stringer is asking out, we should just be telling him "shouldn't have signed that contract to 2018 mate", and if we're trying to trade him out for assets, he can equally say to us "shouldn't have signed me to 2018 then". In that respect, I'd be completely and utterly surprised if he wasn't still in the Red, White and Blue next year.
