Strategy Trade and List Management thread 4 (Be sure to huddle around your transitor radio at 11 am Edition)

Is the Stringer situation beyond repair?

  • The club clearly want him out the door.

  • This was just a shot across Jakes bow as a means of motivating him.

  • The club is clearly a rabble. Sack Macca!

  • This is just the first play in massive trade that we are not yet privy to.

  • This is a game of blink and Jake and Conners just blinked.

  • Its time to move on a negotiate the best deal we can.

  • I felt sad for Jake on that stage today.

  • We've warned you about creating polls Norm!

  • The Jack 'Armageddon option' Watts option

No it's not "all on him".. but he's getting a free pass based on 2016 which is ridiculous.

He has made bad decision after bad decision this year
Yeah, it is ridiculous. I mean he dragged us from our lowest ebb into the finals in year one and won us a flag from nowhere in 2016.

**** coach. Toss him out.

Nothing that you guys could offer, sorry.
Fair enough, just wanted an opposition perspective on it. One thing i will say if you look at geelong's trade history we tend to trade a lot for players we want (a lot of people say we tend to overpay in trades) and we either quickly get deals done or we walk away, either way we are unlikely to either lowball you or jerk you around for a week like some clubs (e.g essendon) tend to. So if you decide to trade stringer (which i really doubt you will tbh) and he wants to go to geelong i doubt you will get shafted.

We know so little about what is going on there's no point slinging shit at either (or both) side right now. Although I guess that's what we do best here.

I fully trust Bevo to make the right call here 100%, but I hope he knows what he's doing. Forgetting about his on field ability (which I suspect to be top 5 in the league for at least a few good years) off field hes just as important, a team favourite in the change rooms, huge favourite with the kids and just all round marketing ability.

The club 100% needs to be seen as a clear winner in this trade, or it will hurt us big time, there's no two ways about it. Don't have a lot of confidence in Jmac but ffs if he can't get value out of a situation like this then he needs to go. This is where you earn your money, not signing happy players to 2 year extensions!

I just feel like if the club were genuinely serious about trading him they would have done it a lot differently, all we've done here is **** our strong position.

I still have hope this will all be mended but geez if it's not we absolutely cant be taking a late first rounder + fringe player ffs. Top 5 pick + player minimum. That's easily what he's worth and no other team would take less. Essendon or Geelong dont have that? Too bad better find it.

Not sure how we fix our forward line but **** surely we've got something in mind
Geelong flogs have us taking a shitty 2018 first and that is it

A shitty end of 2018 first round is nowhere near enough

I see your point, but Jake is a grown man, not a spoilt 14-year-old brat.

Criticism is part of life. It's how you react and respond to that and the difficult times in life that reveal your true character.
He is but his life is also a bit of a mess off the field, so there are factors at play

Just a thought but McCartney gave players brutal feedback, it was reported over the top feedback and the playing list turned on him.

Bev came on board by all reports is a people person, was pretty buddy buddy with the players got the group playing for him and each other.

Then 2017 happens, players need honest feedback and to know where things went wrong this year and now we have stringer unhappy and other players apparently unhappy according to rumours on here.

Just maybe we have a playing group that can't handle feedback, doesn't like to be told their failings and is a bit sooky. Maybe it's not always the coach.

Also if reports are true that stringer sooked it up over his exit interview telling him to work harder and be more professional why would he suddenly decide to work harder and be more professional elsewhere.

Geez some are precious here. He doesn't continually get a free pass based on last year. That is a shit attitude to take

Take the Sir Alex Ferguson approach don't strengthen your most likely rivals.

Send him to North or Carlton rather than deal with Geelong and Essendon whilst you have him under contract in 2018.

But still a fan of letting things cool down and trying to get him happy again whilst he is contracted.

I'm hearing this through someone else who spoke to a family member of one of the Dogs players Jake is very tight with. So hearing this second hand so don't shoot the messenger:

In jakes mind (unless there is a significant turn around) he is gone. He hasn't taken it well and not in a great head space

Will be Geelong or Essendon

Confirmed Beveridge is the one driving it

The players are filthy at Mitch Wallis for his comments.

Our only saving grace is that trade week is still 5 weeks away so there is time to kiss and make up.
What was wrong with Mitch's comments? F*** me do we have a bunch of year 9 school girls down there!?? Sounds like our list have turned into a bunch of Prima donnas after the flag. All this has done is left me with zero surprise we had the season we did. Sounds like there are a few players who need to pull their fingers out. I'm fearing we need a clean out and rebuild the way this is going. It's 2014 all over again

And this Geelong and Essendon talk is not heartening. Firstly I have no idea how either could afford him but they have nothing to offer us. Nothing. But we'll just accept a mid first rounder and second rounder won't we?

Can't happen though as players dictate where they go

Which is why the afl need to allow players to be traded without their permission

Pay off would be having free agency after 6 years

We'd want your 2018 first and then some. What would you be willing to add to it? Would like a sense of what you guys would be ok to give up.

The coaches stuck with him this year, didn't drop him to the 2s kept playing him. Then by reports let him know he needs to put in more and make more of an effort or maybe his future is elsewhere and he cracks the sads. He's basically been told the same things can't happen again next year which is fair.

People can't use issues as a reason to not perform their job at some point they need to start performing or move on that's life. Employers aren't charities and at the end of the day the dogs are his employer.

He's soooo valuable. Don't be fooled. Stringer holds gargantuous currency, AND he's contracted so we hold 100% of the power here. We're bending someone over for once.

In terms of options:

North - This years first (pick 4) OR 2018 first (preferable, but our sheepish supporters will have no foresight and blow up).

Essendon - Pick 12 AND next years first (approx 14-18. I expect them to get much, much better).

Geelong - They have next to nothing to offer us. Next years first doesn't get it done. Mitch Duncan would make me jump for joy, Cockatoo appeals and is Jong with footy smarts and a good leg.

St Kilda - Pick 7 or 8. Pretty much right on the money.

Carlton - Pick 3. Not sure they're smart enough to be in the hunt, but Jake would immediately be a franchise player for them. Strap him to Cripps for preseason and teach him some f***** professionalism. Hope Pat belts the shit out of him every time he trips up to show him how an AFL standard player conducts himself off-field.

Collingwood, Melbourne and the Tigers won't have cap room.

I love how clubs want to offer us peanuts for a player they all think is over rated but are frothing to get?
Mate, you need to relax a bit and re-read before posting. I've seen you refer twice to "offers" from clubs. There are none in the public domain, not any even purported in the media, not one. You are reacting to "offers/proposed trades" from opposition posters. I doubt any club would offer peanuts.
Call out opposition posters all you want if they post crap, but misrepresenting the situation doesn't help.

I've probably said it too many times by now but it's definitely a Carlton or North 2018 first I want. And if either of them like him enough and back their chances next year I reckon we could get it.

Sounds like bullshit to me there is no way players could be angry with his comments
